  1. Yes, third party team would get VO or Lebanc for 1/4 of their $, which brings way more teams into play. Cap hit would be just over $1M instead of $4M, which only a couple of teams can take. Retaining on two guys is similar to a buy out but you get an asset back. The league would probably close this loophole after this deal.
  2. Were they Swedish?
  3. I generally have tuna and don’t like it toasted. Meatball sub with lots of cheese, toast it.
  4. I think the second trade can retain 50%, which ends up being 25% of the original contract.
  5. I guess that’s why he’s the GM and I’m not. I watched UPL in the OHL quite a few times as well as the WJHC so I realize he has potential. I want to see consistency at this level in order to start believing in him. I think Levi is the man going forward but if UPL continues getting better and these two battle hard for the net that will be a good thing. 1A and 1B scenario would keep the wear and tear factor lower and you go with the hot hand in the playoffs. Playoffs?
  6. VO had a few of those last year, they counted toward his 28.
  7. If KA can lock up TNT, Cozens and Mitts for less than what Toronto pays Matthews and Tavares that is good management and solidifies the C spine for a long time. Those contracts can also be traded if need be. The 3C, whether Mitts or Cozens will be well paid, but they are top 6 players who can play wing as well. The cap is going up and I don’t think there will be a problem with the next wave of contracts. VO, KO and Girgs replacements will probably be making less and there are a lot of ELC guys in the hopper.
  8. Interesting idea to make VO more palatable. Both players need a change of scenery for sure.
  9. UPL getting run support but he doesn’t need it for a change. I could get used to this version.
  10. Feels like the way the Sabres lost to Montreal.
  11. A couple of good blocks by the D to keep them in this.
  12. OK, regroup here and play the third like you want it! The Sabres are the faster team but can’t use their speed when hemmed in their zone.
  13. I wonder if he realizes it and asks for load management (scratches).
  14. They are flying out there tonight. Keep the throttle wide open!
  15. I would say Mitts is currently playing like the 2C. Cozens was even moved to TNT’s wing for a few games. I would hope Mitts’ contract comes in around $5.5-6M, but he is playing well and could match or exceed Cozens’ stats. I love Cozens more but Mitts’ season could show him to be a core piece. He is also motivated by his next contract. Even if he is 3C long term, he may be one of the top 6 forwards and probably deserves to get paid like one.
  16. Like many, I’m over VO even though he scored 28 goals last year. Many of us have gone over his weaknesses multiple times, no need to rehash that. Your statement that DG is done with him is accurate. He was scratched down the stretch and now early in the season. His only return path is a team scoring slump or lousy PP. He could slot in and pot a few goals that could keep him around for a few more games. He will still find himself in the doghouse soon after because of all the issues with his game. I am OK with him as the 13th forward, until Quinn comes back. If VO has a good couple of games, he might pop up on someone’s radar as a trade candidate. Don’t expect much for him. He is not complaining yet but if it gets to that point KA needs to move him out. I don’t think he is the type of player who would thrive in the playoffs anyway.
  17. I’m happy to see KA willing to cook the books a little bit. This isn’t Kucherov or Stone level cap circumvention but I like that he is willing to bend. He might have to do that cap juggling soon.
  18. Plus, he’s a Melnyk hire, who had no GM experience beforehand. He was a head scout.
  19. Sens to lose a first round pick for their role in the Dadonov trade. https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/ottawa-senators-to-forfeit-first-round-pick-as-fallout-from-2021-evgenii-dadonov-trade-1.2029600 I guess they did not inform Vegas that he had a no movement clause and that caused a problem at the trade deadline, where he was moved to Anaheim but the trade was nullified by the league because the Ducks were on his list. You would think a team would look at a player’s contract once they acquired him but I guess the onus was on the Sens disclosing this information.
  20. Let’s get the PP back to last year’s level, starting tonight. The Sabres becoming a special teams nightmare for the opposition can happen.
  21. Always liked McClanahan, hoped he could bring the magic of the Miracle on Ice. Ramsey worked out, he didn’t.
  22. They must be motivated to win this game, .500 with a win. They can get on a roll and assert themselves as an eastern conference contender with a good November. Dahlin will continue his points streak, getting 2. I am curious to see if their better defensive approach continues, giving UPL more support, Levi should be ready to back up. Cozens and Tuch may be held back a bit by VO but I think that line is a factor tonight. Let’s go Buffalo!
