  1. I would really like to know who drafted Cozens. I agree JB made the final call, but who really was pushing for Cozens? Was it a consensus or what there an individual gunning for him? And is he still employed by the Sabres? We’ll probably never know, but someone knows.

I’m hoping Tampa Bay loses in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. They’ll definitely want to come back then.
  3. I just don’t see any reason why a Tampa player, outside of a personal argument within the organization (or a personal issue, like their Mom is sick), will waive their NTC. There’s just no leverage. Winning the Cup will likely want them to stay longer. Given taxes and higher costs of living outside of Tampa, they’ll effectively be taking a pay cut. Otherwise, given that the team holds zero leverage and these contracts will be difficult to move, I just don’t see why or how they’ll move these players. Plus, with the new CBA, the NMC now seems to travel with the contract if the player does agree to temporarily lift his NMC for a trade.

And he’s pick the absolute worst year to do it. I wish him the best of luck.
  5. I’m fine with a guy who just couldn’t cut it being a director of development. There’s a maxim in investing. When you win, you get paid in money. When you lose, you get paid in experience. Ellis has this experience. There’s a million reason not to hit in the NHL. Even if you know what you have to do and how to do it, you can still fail. But, you gain valuable experience. The key here will be to have the youngsters buy in so they don’t make the same mistakes. I’m a big believer in mentorship. Even the best can fail without a proper mentor.
  6. This is off topic. Should be moved to the around the NHL thread.
  7. Surely you’re not going to say the loss of life in one case is worse than another. A killing is a killing. However, in this case, we are talking about 113 homicides, in 9 months, in one city. Most were likely innocent people and none deserved to die. I don’t think protesting is going to reach individual people. Maybe that energy should be spent elsewhere. I do think that millionaires becoming more personally engaged in their community will. Many of these players came from the same urban blight. Even if that prevents 1 senseless murder, it’s better than walking out on a season.
  8. There have been 113 homicides in Milwaukee in 2020. 74% of them have been black. Why haven’t they “stepped up” to this? https://projects.jsonline.com/apps/Milwaukee-Homicide-Database/
  9. People on here keep debating about the biology of the male sex and what constitutes professionalism, yet an agent has tweeted a painting (?) of his client with a claymore thrust through his torso. Come on guys, wtf.
  10. As mentioned above, Rheino is the better player here. I do it though if they toss in Gaudreau for Montour. We always talk about perhaps having to “overpay” to get what our teams needs. But, what about the other team? What if they think they “need” Rheino? Then I want them to overpay. I guess it depends on who initially contacted who or who has the upper hand here.
  11. I wrote that to describe why the pick would be desirable to another team in a trade, not why it would be desirable for the Sabres to keep. I’m all for moving it to a team with cap problems for this very reason.
  12. The better word would’ve been a decent prospect. I never specified how long that pick would be considered a decent “asset” though, but probably about 2-3 years (before the fans get out the torches and pitchforks). Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter who is picked at #8, you’ll get an asset that won’t hit your cap. Even that is an assumption though. Who knows, you may strike gold and he may land on the active roster at some point during the season.

    ...or fail to impress.
  14. The eight pick will unlikely end up as good as Monahan, but one thing is guaranteed. It will produce a decent asset that will have zero affect on a team’s salary cap. I don’t think that’s something to be underestimated in these coming years.
  15. It’s almost like giving someone (a player in this instance) a promotion and not bothering to speak to their supervisor to see what their strengths are and what they need to continue to improve. And, as you suggest, the Sabres organization should play a uniform system. There should be a single vision on how they want their players to behave on the ice and it should be evident at both levels. I honestly thought they had this with Taylor and PH, and thought they were going to make a change once Ralph was hired because he teaches a much different game. Did Taylor adapt his team to this at all? Whose responsibility should it have been to make this happen?
  16. But, this is part of the problem. If this is true, the firing of Taylor never properly addressed this problem. It takes 2 people to stop talking to each other. And, if this is allowed to continue to fester, the problem worsens. What I would like Kruger (or even KA, if Kruger doesn’t have the stones) to publicly explain is why this occurred and what did he do to attempt to solve it (he obviously failed to resolved it, outside of fairing the guy after the fact).
  17. I was waiting for that to fall. It’s obvious (or maybe not, because Sabres) that Ralph should’ve had significant input into Taylor’s fate and he was fired. Conversely, he probably signed off on the Appert signing. Who knows, maybe Ralph saw Taylor as someone who was gunning for his job. Nevertheless, the quick playoff exits were good enough for a change.
  18. We probably would if we were a perennial winner, as they likely would’ve been promoted by other teams.
  19. Who are these development coaches? Didn’t we fire everyone?
  20. That may be the case, but nevertheless, they are still connected by the USNTDP. They probably have the same references and/or connections. Maybe we should look to the NTDP for our next hire.
  21. This guy is connected to Jeremiah Crowe as well. He was the HC of the NTDP while Crowe was the Director of Player Personnel.
  22. I found this helpful: https://www.capfriendly.com/qualifying-offer-calculator
  23. This is a very simple rumor to squash. Give him the QO of a measly $3,525,000. End of rumor. End of “mind games”. Not the end of sloppy “reporting” though.
  24. The board would melt down if this guy walks for nothing. Pilut x1000.

The fact that a lot of teams need cap relief makes #8 a lot more valuable. It’s an asset that doesn’t hit the cap. Given that, if we’re talking with teams, they’re going to try their best to pry that away from us. They may even demand it instead of demanding a certain player.
