  1. Maybe Appert can tell GM Sheevyn.... "Our PP coach has been damaged, I'm afraid you'll have to replace it." And GM Sheevyn can be all:
  2. Power missed the pass, but if you miss the pass, I'd like to see him absolutely wipe the guy out along the boards. This BJ's penalty kill is dangerous!
  3. It's the reason P.Kane's injury timeline didn't work. If Kane had been healthy to start the season, maybe you sign him (he still isn't what this team needs). But Quinn is good and is going to be really good.
  4. I think once Benson puts on 10-15 pounds, he'll give Quinn a run for it. TNT also has a high ceiling, but isn't shifty enough to find tiny seams and isn't strong enough to just drive the net and stay there. And when Tuch is on (which is inconsistent, admittedly) he's a force, but he doesn't see the game in slow-motion I think like Quinn does.
  5. I don't think I'll be mentioning playoffs the remainder of this season. If they go 22-4-4 in their next 30, though, then I'll be all in on playoffs.
  6. Good response to giving up a last-minute goal in the 1st. Playing the aggressor.
  7. WOOOO! Tenacious forecheck and Quinn knows where to stand for rebounds.
  8. Red D'Ebriate standing by. Breaking and bagging some prequel sets for the new year. Game on. Let's go!
  9. My thought on bringing up the AHL coach is that it'll be more than a single game sample size. And considering last game against these guys was an absolute drubbing, I'm guessing it should be a decent overall effort regardless of coach.
  10. Hope DG rests up and recovers quickly. As to Appert in the interim, I assume this means HCDG will be out for at least a few games (min. 5 days) for continuity among the staff. If it were just expected to be the back-to-back, I don't know why you wouldn't just let an assistant handle it and not impact both NHL/AHL teams. As to speculation, it provides a look at whether or not the head coach is a weakness of the team (Appert also has decades' worth of coaching experience/15+ years as a HC) and allows Appert to provide some feedback on the assistants. We'll have to see how the team responds.
  11. I must confess I still believe, still believe, that some season the Sabres will make the playoffs -- with as many as 50% of the current players on the roster still on the Sabres (and not just in the NHL).
  12. GM Sheevyn watching the reactions on 'Space and other media.
  13. Tage on non-play, Jost waived, Johnson down, Johnson up...
  14. Behold! The power of Jost! But he should give the team a good boost with Kulich in Sweden.
  15. They must just want him to get an extra game tonight in Rochester, then a corresponding move tomorrow for the Sabres' back-to-back. Either Johnson right back up or Bryson/Stillman. Simply because if a defenseman tweaks something in warm-ups you're starting with 5. Also because you can't play 11-7 with only 6.
  16. But at least they're keeping three goalies on the active roster!
  17. Yup. It's the cost of a Compher (granted, probably don't want that $/term if you're going to re-sign Mitts, but as an example) or both of Colton and Frederic.
  18. He snipes from the faceoff dot on the power play? He's climbing higher and higher on the Sabres draft board. 😇 (We're destined to pick at #8 so he will be available.)
  19. Power-based memes/gifs! And remember how last year he looked like a legit future top 4 and wise/calm beyond his years. It's either the proverbial sophomore slump (and opponent film study) or poor coaching.
  20. The answer is yes. And they might just be better for it... (if a couple of the players first-time UFAs or a trade acquisition who legitimately fulfill a 3C and 4D and 1B goalie role).
  21. GM Sheevyn gave him the opportunity for a final audition to other GMs around the league before the inevitable. And while he gave the lineup a boost and a versatile forward last season, this season it's been mostly invisible sub-40% faceoff Jost. Part of the reason why he didn't fit on a championship-caliber Avs roster and a playoff-caliber Wild roster in the last couple seasons.
  22. I would take this on a different track. As a veteran on the team (the Okposos, EJs, Girgs, etc.) I would have told Benson to go -- we'll win while you're away, we've got your back --- and also spoken with coach/GM to make it happen. Benson should be on Canada's top line this week.
  23. We're up to the 5th season in a row. GMKA took over with year remaining on "one-eyed" Hutton's contract. The instant Hutton had his eye issue, JBott should have been searching for a real 1A to pair with Ullmark. Then, GMKA ran it back with a damaged Hutton. Once Ullmark got hurt (in back-to-back seasons) the 2019-20 and 20-21, those campaigns were immediately and completely lost. Then, Ullmark and his steady .915, .917 GAA were allowed to get to UFA, and still haven't been replaced -- if you are going to let him get to UFA, at least trade him at the deadline. He was 26-20-6 on the Krueger squads! How'd Hutton/Johansson do for the Sabres in those 2 seasons? 14-32-7. Meanwhile, GMKA's early time was spent acquiring the likes of Matt Irwin and Taylor Hall.
