Contract data can be viewed here: http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/buffalo-bills/ (READ BELOW before responding) KEY: BLUE – Player should be settled in Buffalo for at least a few more years, long-term piece GREEN – Bring player back for another year but not currently a guarantee long-term RED – Cut or trade this player (cap savings for cutting in parentheses) ORANGE – Let this player walk via free agency BOLD if I'm confident this will be their outcome QB – Tyrod Taylor, EJ Manuel ($0), Josh Johnson RB – LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams, Boobie Dixon ($1.15M), Mike Gilislee (re-sign), Jerome Felton, Cierre Wood WR – Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, Chris Hogan, Percy Harvin, Marcus Easley, Marcus Thigpen, Marquise Goodwin ($710K) TE – Charles Clay, Chris Gragg ($675K), Nick O’Leary ($525K), Marqueis Gray OT – Cordy Glenn (re-sign), Seantrel Henderson ($587K), Jordan Mills, Cyrus Kouandjio ($402K) OG – Richie Incognito (re-sign), John Miller, Kraig Urbik ($1.7M), Ryan Groy C – Eric Wood DE – Mario Williams ($12.9M), Jerry Hughes, Jairus Wynn, IK Enemkpali ($600K), Lavar Edwards ($675K) DT – Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams ($5M), Corbin Bryant (re-sign), Stefan Charles, Alex Carrington, TJ Barnes ($600K) OLB – Manny Lawson, Randell Johnson, Ty Powell (re-sign), Nigel Bradham, AJ Tarpley ($525K) MLB – Preston Brown, Tony Steward, Kevin Reddick ($675K) CB – Stephon Gilmore, Ronald Darby, Nickell Robey, Leodis McKelvin ($3.9M), Mario Butler, Ron Brooks, Cam Thomas ($524K) S – Corey Graham, Aaron Williams, Bacarri Rambo (re-sign), Jonathan Meeks ($600K), Duke Williams ($675K) K – Dan Carpenter ($1.8M), Jordan Gay ($600K) P – Colton Schmidt (re-sign) LS – Garrison Sanborn Bills current cap space prior to any moves: Between =$2.8M and $0.2M if the $150M-153M project is correct; $152.8M dedicated to 48 players Bills cap space after CUTS ONLY above: Between $35.5M and $37.5M; $114.5M dedicated to 25 players A cap of $150M gives you an average of $2.9M per player (only top 51 contracts hit the cap). $114.5M to 25 players is an average of $4.58M per player. There's some work to do there, but that's also with realizing I cut a ton of cheap depth players that would cost between $600-$1M. I understand there is just no way they end up cutting/trading or letting all those players walk. It just doesn't and can't happen because there's not enough time to turnover half the roster. But I highlighted every player I believed fit best into each category. I won't be upset if several of the depth guys are kept around. It's going to take some magic to work with this roster considering they will have zero cap space heading into the offseason. They can create an extra $25M of open space by cutting just Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, Anthony Dixon, Leodis McKelvin and Kraig Urbik. That should be enough to re-sign everybody you want to bring back, your rookie class and maybe wiggle room for a cheap free agent or two.

Raising a bunch of good-for-nothing dimwits who only talk in unverifiable theory is a generational thing. You wouldn't understand.

Oh give it a rest. There's tons of posting things that can't be proved or disproved all over this board. We've all got some opinions that probably don't hold much water as far as apparent facts show... Why in the world would I, somebody who has publicly said Whaley should be fired for over a year now, post something that would free him from blame for hiring Rex? I'm not filling an agenda here... This post is unfortunate.
-
Dispute it all you want. It's an opinion. Neither of us have any evidence to disprove it. I'm going to post a full-roster breakdown sometime tonight (hopefully) with guys I think we should/will keep and guys I think we should/will get rid of.
-
Hue Jackson's comments gave me the impression he thought Whaley was going to hire him and then poof Rex was the coach.
-
Just because I don't have a ton of evidence doesn't mean I'm "making it up." You have no evidence if you say Whaley made the decision to hire Rex. Is that "making it up?" No, it's an assumption... I get the feeling he didn't make the hire. Also the defense stuff is hogwash. Most of the players on this defense played in the 3-4 under Pettine. He wouldn't have had to tweak much. That's not my issue with him, though. We have no way of knowing what his desired candidate would've done. It's a fun hypothetical but it doesn't acquit Whaley.
-
I don't think he's going to be fired for the hiring of Rex Ryan...
-
Nope. I think there's normally a combination of voices with the football people being the most important. I don't even think Whaley was involved in the decision, though. He was in the room, but he never had a say. I have no legitimate evidence of this. Just an opinion I hold here. I still think Whaley should be let go.
-
I don't think Schwartz would've been a good choice and I think Rex was a bad choice. You absolutely could've found somebody to pair with Schwartz, though. Whaley's favorite, Hue Jackson, wanted to keep Schwartz.
-
Not really. He had five sacks in five games prior to an injury. It was the first year they asked him to play OLB. He did mention how he wasn't sure how he felt about the position switch but this is another level of Mario. He's not wrong by content but likely is wrong by when/where he said it.I think he knows that there are several people in Buffalo want him out so he's being defensive. He'll be a coveted FA.

http://buffalo.suntimes.com/buffalo-sabres/7/116/192020/sabres-dont-renew-patrick-2 This references a WGR article from September 2nd (that was removed) about him not being renewed.

Nobody was zeroing in on one. I mentioned his stat line from the game, mostly in jest, and you said it can't be used as supportive evidence for a good QB (which is actually can, if you expand on it with further statistics as I did when prompted). On Cian - I actually haven't seen a single specific criticism from him on Cousins. He just yells and screams his fingers off with jokes and snide comments about a contract extension for him. He starts off his hate parade with with something specific then just assumes everybody read said remarks months ago and understands where he's coming from when he bashes a player. He's brilliant, but he's unbearable with these specific players he hates. I actually agree with almost everything he says but just can't handle the way he presents it.

If we can't use a game against the Bills as a positive for Kirk Cousins why can't you consider the schedule when viewing team record from one year to the next? The Bills played a brutal AFC South and NFC East this year. Last year they drew the solid AFC West and bad-to-decent NFC North.
-
Yea, dominating weak opponents is never something good QBs are supposed to do. Also can't use any of these games: 23-for-27 for 203 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTs vs Rams 31-for-46 for 290 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTs vs Eagles 33-for-40 for 317 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs vs Bucs 20-for-25 for 324 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INTs vs Saints 20-for-29 for 302 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs vs Giants All wins. I don't think Cousins is a god or a "franchise QB." But he's not bad and isn't the joke many still want to believe he is. He's a good starter. I think he could improve and become a franchise QB. I also thought he should've been a first-round pick... Was it you that referred me to Cian Fahey? Whoever it was - that guy is unbearable. He's got great analysis. Some of the better and more thorough analysis than I've seen on social media... But that guy gets an opinion then REFUSES to change it. He will not say a single good thing about a player he thinks is bad and vice versa.

This may be an entirely different game if Tyrod doesn't miss Sammy wide open for a TD on 3rd and 9 during the Bills third drive. Also... The good QB: Tyrod in the first half - 3-for-8 with 27 yards. Seven rushes for 52 yards. The bad QB: Kirk Cousins in the first half - 14-for-17 for 182 yards and 2 TDs. One rush for 13 yards and a TD.
-
Damn... Sammy wide open for an easy touchdown and Tyrod misses him by five yards.

Trade Suggestion: Johansen Traded to Preds for Seth Jones
Hoss replied to wjag's topic in The Aud Club
I love Johansen, but I think this ones pretty damn close. They're both very similar ages. Duchene has a deeper history of success/production and is producing far better this season... But Johansen doesn't have guys like Landeskog, MacKinnon and, formerly, O'Reilly to play with/take pressure off. -
Everybody loves Ray. Just not his analysis. He's loved throughout the city and people care that he's around. Just get him off my broadcast.

They don't clear all $19M. Just $12.9M of it. And chances are that cap will be eaten up by whatever they do at left tackle/on the offensive line. Luckily I did look at the free agent list! http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/ Some names I like on there that should be reasonable: Derrick Johnson, ILB, Kansas City Chiefs Andre Smith, RT, Cincinnati Bengals Mitchell Schwartz, RT, Cleveland Browns Russell Okung, OT, Seattle Seahawks (if we let Glenn walk) Mason Crosby (Green Bay) and Justin Tucker (Baltimore) kickers Jason Jones, DE, Detroit Lions Sean Weatherspoon, ILB/OLB, Arizona Cardinals (he could probably be had on the minimum and has serious health issues but is talented) Alex Boone, G, San Francisco 49ers Evan Mathis, G, Denver Broncos Mike DeVito, DT, Kansas City Chiefs (former Rex dlineman)

If everything is in one place and localized with a familiar schedule and a familiar name running the station (I'm assuming it'd be called something like Pegula Sports Network or whatever) I think people would be FAR more likely to watch. I'd be far more likely to watch every single item on that list if I knew where and when it would be on. I'm too lazy to look up what channel the content is on. I think that's a pretty familiar sentiment for many.

"No, you're right." :p

UB isn't going to be an anchor for content, but there are some local schools (UB, Canisius, St. Bonaventure, Niagara) who could have their content broadcast. We discussed this extensively in another thread at one point. Sabres games. Bisons games. Roc Red Wings games. Bandits games. Americans games. UB, Canisius, St. Bonaventure, Niagara basketball/baseball/hockey games. There's plenty of former pros still living in the area for them to have several talk shows. They should give the Sabres and Bills coaches their own show each week. They've brought in the woman who spearheaded the Bills 30-for-30 which tells me they want to do some long-form docu stuff. I'm not sure what the policy would be on them re-broadcasting Bills games later in the week but that's an option to fill a time slot. I'm not saying this would be enough to generate ad revenues (they'd have to get very creative and be consistent), but there's at least some content to get started. I do believe they're going to try but I don't know if it'll ever be more than just an idea they throw some money at then abandon.
