Regehr is probably the target - just what LA need. Maybe Stafford too From Inside Hockey's rumors: •The Sabres are shopping Stafford. Red Wings, Canucks and Kings have all inquired. I am being told LA is ready to make a splash again at this year’s trade deadline day. They do have the authority from the owner to spend to the cap, and I’m being told they target a top 6 forward as well as a solid d-man. Talks ongoing with Sabres for Regehr and Oilers for Smid.

Poor guy. To spend your whole life working for something, only to have to taken away by a freak accident when you have made it. I can't imagine how he feels. But it is good he has his priorities right. Hopefully he can find a job in the world he loves

The line of Kunitz, Crosby and Dupuis has been the league's most productive at even-strength, scoring 25 goals. Here are the top 19 trios (9-way tie for 20th), for goal production at even strength, according to www.leftwinglock.com: Rk Team LW C RW GOALS 1 PIT Chris Kunitz Sidney Crosby Pascal Dupuis 25 2 CAR Jiri Tlusty Eric Staal Alexander Semin 20 3 BUF Thomas Vanek Cody Hodgson Jason Pominville 19

Edmonton should have traded last years first for depth and vets -
A player usually loses money as compensation for getting the NTC/NMC. So they say I want $7mill per or $5mill per and a NTC etc. I think it is often done to give the player stability, which is especially important if they have a family etc.

As I have said before, I think our issue (in the forwards) is: A) Missing two top 6 wingers (paging Foligno and Stafford) B) Lack of identity in the bottom 6 What is sad is that with all the spare parts we have this season/last few, we don't have a tool kit to taylor our roster to the opponents, we have the box of toys about to be donated to charity - misfits. Gerbe is not skilled enough for a top 6 role, not good enough defensively for a traditional third line role and too small for a fourth line role. If the Sabres sign Drew Miller and Boyd Gordon I will be happy - two defensively minded guys who can play 13-15 minutes.

Which is enough to harpoon many a trade. Are there more than 8 teams out there who need a goalie and he doesn't want to play for? He might not want to play for Boston, but he won;t be traded there so he doesn;t need to worry about putting them down as one of his 8

Yes, but he isn't Miller and isn't a Sabre. So he will be better Myers/Miller/2nd for Bryz/3rd? -

He is a left handed player who played the left wing of Briere, but he can play both wings -
I don't think it is all that surprising. They want to know they still matter, if we are preparing for a run in 5 years, then they probably want to go somewhere else. However - the Habs went from last to top of the East in one off season. If we have a big trade deadline, draft and FA we could be a retooled team. Some of our biggest problems are players not living up to potential/expectations. PK Subban is almost a point per game player, Myers has been a basket case 90% of the time. Stafford should have double his production. The Habs, in 2012/13, brought in Armstrong, Boulion, Bourque, Galchenyuk, Prust and Ryder - not exactly major moves. They also got a new coach and gm and 'philosophy'
-
Ah I see, thanks. On that note - I wonder, is part of our failure these last few years something to do with our failings in the 05, 06 and 07 drafts (especially our first rounders)? These guys should be stepping into our line up 08ish onwards, but they weren't there, and it also meant we had no prospects to trade for established players
-
I'm not sure what your point is? They are all good prospects
-
I liked it - i'm not sure why people showed such outrage? If it is going to be a shoot-out why not try something creative
-
Teams not trade stars, not just because their production is very good, but also because they are the name/face of a franchise - they put people into the seats and sell jerseys, people know who they are

Look at the Oilers - you need vets to be able to give young guys room to grow. The old core consists of Vabek, Stafford, Pommers, Miller. Our top 6 is already young, you have to keep Pommers and Vanek. Stafford is the St Louis Brad Boyes of our team. Miller is a bit more tricky - the only way I would be happy trading him is if we also got Bernier or Schnieder back (probably in another deal). It is rare a team goes anywhere without a very good goalie - 3/7 Stanley cup winning goalies also won the Conn Smythe - the ones that didn't? the Red Wings, but when you have the best defenceman of all time, and two of the best defensive forwards who will be hall of famers you don't need elite goaltending. The Pens, Malkin won it, but Fleury was damn good, people wouldn't have complained if he won it. The Ducks won it with Pronger and Niedermayer on the ice for 50+ minutes. The Blackhawks won it with Niemi playing incredibly, if i remember correctly. To Summarise, To win the cup you must have one of these: A great goalie A hot goalie Hall of fame defence A hot goalie is too unpredictable for my liking -
Do you play for the Sabres? Are you over 28? Well pack your bags, it's time to go. This organisation prefers the younger demographics, the kind of rookies who can put up 70 points a night whilst playing against shutdown lines in the league. It might seem like this team is miserable with an all star goalie and two 70 point players, but this is all deception. Once we manage to get rid of this baggage we can finally put all the rookies in and watch and smile as they win back to back cups for a decade. We would never be able to win 10 cups with someone over 28, they' be too old for that final push for the 10th cup. But fear not OAP (old age players), Pegula promises to put your name ont he wall - the highest thank you this franchise will give you for devoting 10+ years of your life to us. I'm Terry Pegula, and I approve this message

This was a much better effort from the whole team - no long periods of getting pinned in our zone. I still think Grigo deserves more than 5 minutes of ice time a game. The drop off from Miller to Enroth is huge - we won because we played a good game tonight -
The thing i find weird, is the wording - he won't get a contract extension. It implies the Sabres want to move away from him, rather than vice versa. Not to mention it implies they don't want to trade him to really solidify for the future, but instead just want to get rid of him
-
I use Chrome and it wouldn't load for me, so I used Firefox instead - dunno if that is your issue They also said Miller won't get a contract extension
-
Hrm...Just found a way to listen to it. They made it sound very definite that Miller's days were coming to an end - weird that we have heard no rumblings at all?
-
I can't find a good thread for this - i'm too tired to try that hard. But here is what my plan for next season would be, if I was TP: Vanek (7.143 R) - Hodgson (3.5 R) - Pommers (5.3 R) Folingo (0.9 L) - Ennis (2.8 L) - Armia (1.275 R) Ott (2.95 L) - Grigorenko (1.775 L) - Leino (4.5 L) Miller (1.1 L) - Gordon (1.5 R) - Kaleta (1.086 R) Thompson (1.1 L) 7 Lefts, 6 Rights Total Cap: 33.7 Ehrhoff (4.0 L) - Myers (5.5 R) Mcnabb (0.9 L) - Sekera (2.75 L) Weber (1.3 L) - Pysyk (0.9 R) Sulzer (1 L) - O'Byrne (2 R) 5 Lefts, 3 Rights Total Cap: 18.4 Miller (6.25) Enroth (1.3) Total Cap: 7.5 Cap: 59.5 GM: Jim Nill (Detroit) Head Coach: Larry Robinson (San Jose PK - could be a huge help to Myers as well) Assistant Coaches: Tony Granato (Pittsburgh - Offense/PP), Patrick Roy (Quebec Remparts - defence) 2013 1st Round Pick: Barkov

I really don't like Gerbe's game. Defensively he sucks and offensively he ruined a 2 on 1 before it became a thing
