Why? With how miserable this season is going, Pi's weird Moulson obsession is probably the most entertaining thing we've got.

I will say, if it came to pass that Bylsma got canned and replaced by Richardson, all the luster would officially be off Murray. Lehner, Bogo/Kane, Fasching, ROR (granted this was a HR, but still)...awful lot of "I liked this guy years ago, let me get him" type of evaluation going on.

Their GM said no trade is necessary, they can make the necessary space by sending players to the AHL. If Despres comes back this year, that's when something more will be needed.

Yea, I have a hard time seeing how we win this with all the injuries on offense. Even defensively, I doubt Dareus will be 100%, and losing Aaron Williams may be even more important. Sucks, because healthy, I really think we could have a puncher's chance. Though, Brady does have 1-2 dogs per year. Maybe this is one of em!

I think we can agree that there is currently a good coach not employed as a head coach in the NHL who is looking for their chance. Whether Murray can zero in on him is another matter, of course. Sure, an up and comer may not necessarily jump at the first opportunity, but most opportunities are going to have various warts since good teams are normally having enough success to not create a vacancy...and if they do, they also carry a huge amount of "win now" pressure. And coaches don't want to miss their chance to make the jump, either. What if a hot junior coach passes, then has a couple of down years in junior, and all the sudden is off the NHL radar? I just don't think any credible coach is going to say "Oh they fired Bylsma quickly because they thought he was doing a poor job, I better steer clear" when everything is taken into account. Hell, with the ego on these guys they probably think more along the lines of "He got fired for failing. I'm not not going to fail."

I bet they will.

Pretty sure anyone who said Comey was in the bag for Clinton owes the man an apology. He was doing his job then, he's doing his job now.

Point of order: states don't get called on exit polls, they get called based upon actual returns from a representative sampling of precincts with a teeny bit of help from the exits. It definitely shouldn't be (nor could it be made) illegal to report results...but I'm in favor of a journalistic norm to not report results until polls close on the West coast.

Overruled. How many guys waiting for their first NHL gig are really going to turn one down, particularly with some of the top end pieces we have in place? The Babcocks of the world maybe, but they're also rarely available anyway...and Babcock chose Toronto, which wasn't exactly a picture of stability (obviously he believed in Shanahan, but he had no track record as an executive and MLSE has been known to meddle). He took a chance on uncertainty because of the upside.

Oh, I don't think it's going to happen. I just think the reasons it won't are not strong reasons.

So If The Season Is Over By January.....

I don't think he's had to. One could say Nolan, but I think we mostly agree he was never more than the sacrificial coach for the tank. Bylsma, Lehner, Kane, and Bogo to varying degrees are all opportunities for us to judge how attached Murray is to his decisions. -
I don't think perception of the team in coaching circles is an especially compelling reason to not pull the trigger on Bylsma if it's something that has to be done. Any good coach will be interested in one of 30 NHL jobs, especially when that job includes Eichel and crew--coaches likely think they can win here. That'll trump any worries about not having enough rope from management. Perhaps more importantly, we still have a set of young and developing players...if Bylsma is stifling their development, then any potential perception consequences of firing him be damned. The right coach to develop Jack, Sam, et al. is easily the most important consideration. Tampa fired Melrose less than halfway into his first year with the team because of his impact on Stamkos.

The silver lining in all of this is it should quell the "What if Eichel isn't great" worry being brought on by McDavid and Matthews tearing it up. Many (most? all?) of the problems we're seeing now were also present last year, but Jack Eichel, as an 18 year old rookie, was great enough to cover for a whole lot of it. -

It's better to cut the rope to the anvil dragging you to the bottom of the ocean than to worry about the perception of the decision to tie yourself to an anchor. -

You and I, we're on the same wavelength*. I never thought it'd be a realistic possibility for Murray to pull the plug early in Bylsma's 2nd year of a 5 year deal while Eichel and Kane are out...but there's gotta be a level of ineptitude where it could happen, right? The team isn't just losing, it looks like a tank team. *This should scare the hell out of everyone here. -

Part of me wonders if, regardless of injuries and very early in only his second year, there is a level of prolonged listlessness that really does put Bylsma's job in jeopardy. -

He's about 3 microseconds away from throwing Bylsma under the bus. -

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw the arena that empty at the end of the 3rd. Not even tank years. -

Yup. Notable silver lining from this one. Hopefully never coming anywhere near this team. We want a coach who coaches possession hockey. Yea, but Boudreau is better in the legitimately good hockey coach sense. Great? No. But good. -

He's much better than Bylsma.
