I agree with all of this, but I think he needs quite a bit more than confidence and chemistry with linemates (not that you said otherwise).  He does not have sufficient NHL tools at this point to be an effective NHL forward IMHO.  In particular, he does not have a good enough sense of time and space between him and his defender to stay clear of the defender, or any strength on the puck whatsoever to keep control of the puck once the defender engages him.  He needs to significantly improve both of those items or he can't be a scoring forward in the NHL.

Yes, although it took much longer with Mitts than with the others, which kinda supports the speculation that they had made promises to Mitts on this.

I agree with @TrueBlueGED, you and others -- he needs to stay in the AHL until he makes it very GD clear that he's too good for that level and can be a real NHL forward.

Well, I have to believe that JB sees it too at this point.

Maybe JB did make promises to Mitts and had to play the "then new coach can't be bound by prior commitments" card, or maybe RK used his Jedi mind positivity witchcraft on Mitts and got him to agree to it, or maybe MItts' parents or agent agreed that he needed it and convinced him, or maybe a bunch of things.

I dunno, the simplest explanation to me has always been that Botterill believes in Mittelstadt. He was Botts' first pick as GM and was given an NHL contract after one decent but unspectacular college season. He was penciled in to play 2/3C as a rookie. I don't need a shadowy promises conspiracy to explain it.

So you have no problems not seeing him again till the end of February?

Possibly for the rest of the season if the Sabres are not in the playoff hunt ?

    Because that's were I'm at.

Can't wait to see Monday's practice lines.

If we see Mittelstadt in the NHL again this season, it probably doesn't bode well for where the Sabres are at. Nothing in his game leads me to believe 2 months in the AHL will make him ready to contribute at the NHL level. See ya next year, Mitts.

On Monday Night Jack, Samson and Ryan O’Reilly went out to dinner at Hutch’s and apparently Josh Allen was there is well and paid their bill

But, but, but, Ryan O'Reilly HATES Jack Eichel.

And Josh Allen will never be a good quarterback anyway.

Who the #### invited Reinhart.  He should've been serving Skinner.

    And why wasn't Bogosian there?

Enquiring minds want to know. (Where's the wacko smilie when you need really need it?)

Just goes to show how little we all know about what goes on in that locker room.

Oh you took most of those thoughts right from my mind haha.

Or maybe it was Jack who hates ROR. ?

Perfectly benign explanations...we've all had people we like personally but can't work with, or it could be a clearing of the air meeting, BUT....

The snark opportunity is too much to pass up. We don't know a damn thing about locker rooms and what goes on or what matters in any specific situation, so let's all never talk about it again, shall we? Sigh, a fool's hope, I know.

It bothers me the same way the Berglund walkaway did before we heard about the mental health stuff: things seem to finally be looking up for the franchise and you stand up and say you don’t want to be here?

It’s a purely selfish move and it feels like he’s spitting in the face of teammates and fans.

It tells me “Bogo the great team guy” is a fraud.

Not to defend Bogo, but most of those "great team guy" things are fraudulent.

He is really bad so far this year. We'll be better with him playing minutes elsewhere.

This year? Try every year as a Sabre and in the NHL. He's not good, he's never been good, and I'm thrilled his time as a Sabre is coming to an end.

I know all y'all are crawling out of the Bogo bunker and celebrating this, but I'm disappointed.

Crawling? Sir, I flew out of the bunker like Tony Stark in the first Iron Man.

I read a bit about that. Something doesn't add up. The crew from New England had credentials from Cleveland? And they were in Patriots gear? Why on earth would Belichick & Co. cheat in such an obvious manner? ... Concerning the Bengals, no less!

If there's one thing we've come to learn, being overtly crooked is way more acceptable to people than being covertly crooked.

This is the third time the Belchick and Brady Pats have been caught cheating. Third! It's hard to give either of them GOAT status at this point.

Ha. It was the Pats. Steve Belichick no less.

My favorite McDermott moment so far. There's not even a close second.

I don’t think this way, but I see that a certain chunk of fans do ... so I’m asking, not out of snark, but only out of pure curiosity....

why does it matter so much to some fans, that a Sabre “gets respect” or “gets recognized” by the league or by other cities or other fans.
For me, personally, I couldn’t care less about what the league recognizes. Let alone other fan bases or publications/sports journalists Etc....

Not saying you ... but some fans put so much stock in what others think.

Probably stems from the fact that so many of the measurements for what constitutes a good or great player are based in public recognition. Stars of the week/month, All-Star /First/Second team selections, Hart, Pearson,  Norris, Vezina, Hall of fame, Conn Smythe etc etc are all decided by voting from those “in the know” in one way or another.

Sure there are awards like the Stanley Cup and Art Ross that leave nothing to public opinion, but those are less common.

The answer to why one would want the best player on their favourite team to accumulate awards and recognition I feel is an obvious one.

Mostly this. I would simply add that, personally, I care about league-wide recognition for our best player because it's probably a sign the team is winning. So it's not so much I need people to praise Jack, it's the symbolic value that Jack getting the accolades he deserves is because I'm watching entertaining hockey.

Eichel is 6th in points, 4th in even strength points, and 1st is even strength goals.

Not elite until he's 1st in everything for a 3 year stretch. Gotta do everything we can to pretend we don't have an elite player.

That was not a lousy game by Allen.

I'll say it again, our receivers SUCK!

It was a terrible game by Allen. Our receivers aren't great, but they're not any worse than what Baltimore rolls out. Jackson went 16/25 and 3 TDs.

Can’t think of many more elite Sabre offensive stretches than the 10-11-21 run Jack has put together over the past 12 games.

You’d have to back to 16 and 89 nearly 30 years ago.

Holy crap. I mean, I know when it happened, but putting a number on it just makes it feel like eons ago. I wish I was older for it with clearer memories.

On seeing Overchkin's and Wilson's (Wilson's!) "response," I don't think I ever need to hear again about how the Sabres fail to respond to goonery.

Wait, so you're telling me that having a thug on the ice didn't protect someone via deterrence? Shocked, I say. Almost as if the entire notion of on-ice protection is a myth.

If Botterill trades our 2020 first for anything short of a #1 center under the age of 25 he should be fired before the fax goes through.

Trade our 2020 first for a 28yr old lw, are we even trying to build a team here?

This comment could have been copied and pasted the last three seasons. We can't trade the Nylander pick. We can't trade the Mittelstadt pick. We can't trade the Cozens pick. None of those players helped in the near term. Sure we flipped Nylander, but that's...4 years after his draft year. Mittelstadt is in year 3 post-draft and stinks. Cozens might be an NHLer in year 2, but he might not be an impact player even if he's in the league for a few more seasons.

Eichel, Reinhart, and Skinner are in their prime now. Dahlin will be. The time to win is now, not in 4 years. We should be done flushing away Eichel's prime years on maybes years away.
