  1. That ending was one of the best things that has happened this season. I was smiling like Weber.

Evander Kane's offence has been disappointing this year, but even when he doesn't pass and doesn't score, the guy is still a very effective player. He does so many good things as a forechecker. The ice is tilted in the right direction when he's on the ice. Think of him in terms of last year's Girgensons and he compares very well. Loved to see him get the extra PK time with Zemgus out. He and Schaller looked really good with their puck pressure and should be bumped up in the rotation.

I'm not sure about Johan Larsson's future with that horrible stat line, but goddamit is he doing everything else you want to see your third-line centre do. That line is safe in our zone and tenacious in the other end. It's like all three guys are finally being used in their proper role. I don't think it's coincidence we've started winning since Dan put them together. Now if we can only get Sam between Kane (notice how he seems to look for Sam now?) and Ennis and ROR flanked by Jack and McGinn.

Oh, and I will be very disappointed if McGinn is not traded, but I already live on an island.

I don't think Larssons has accepted his role. He believes he is a top 6 guy. Same issue as last year. Once he owns up to the fact that he is a bottom six energy guy, his game will be that much better.

  2. Yoooouuuurrrr Buffalo Sabres will look to continue their winning ways of late as they travel out to the desert and look to rip the tit right of the mouth of Remus and Romulin as they play the Arizona Coyotes. The Sabres, 3-1 in their last 4 and coming off a dominating performance against Washington last Saturday, one that saw the Sabres chase Vezina candidate Holtby and the AHL come to life, will look to start a streak of games that will ultimately have them end 30-7 in their last 37 games, thereby getting into the playoffs and and fulfilling miracles unseen since a nip slip gave us youtube and George Bush finished 'Green Eggs and Ham'. With any luck we'll see Eichel get off the snide, Reinhart continue to keep pace, Zemgus will be back, and I won't run out of beer.

Ahhh the Yotes. Every time we play them it's like seeing that old flame across the bar. That one where everything was both ridiculous but exciting at the same time? She kicked your dash and threw that necklace out the window, but in the end you went home with her roommate and she got Dylan Strome? Good times.

Anyway, back to these Roman cubs from hell. For, is that not where Domi and Duclair represent? The fabled tale of twins set out to create a new city of destiny, Domi and Duclair have quickly put the league on notice that not only is hockey alive and well in the desert, but Eichel, McDavid, and Larkin aren't the only rooks worth having. Yet for all of their bluster and talent, they are still young, and as we all know, when in Rome, don't build it in a day. Or something like that. The Yotes are 6-2-2 in their last 10, but are coming off a 2-0 loss against NJ on Friday night, only the 2nd time all season they've been shutout.

The last meeting between the teams saw Mike Smith have a very shaky start, stopping 23/27 shots, including a shg by Kane and a goal by Reinhart. Max Domi shined, scoring 2 goals, the only two Johnson would let in on 20 shots.

Steve Downie was waived; recently acquired Tinordi may get his first start as a Yote; Zemgus is unknown; Lehner and Dominque get the starts.

Awesome........Best yet. Legwand with Eichel? We need to find this kid a winger...

They did prior to last game as well

I like McGinn on his right.

  3. I know there is a tv show topic going on but this documentary is so disturbing on so many levels that I don't even know where to begin. Never before have I ever watched something that made my blood boil the way this series did. Not only do I pray that this guy gets out of jail (AGAIN), but I pray ever harder that the entire law enforcement agency involved burns in hell and loses everything in their lives someday. I could pick one of a 20 incredibly obvious lies and betrayals that would prove his innocence and somehow this jury chooses to overlook every single one of them.

I don't even know which is more tragic, Avery or his mentally abused nephew going to life for prison. Nobody on a higher level will touch this case for fear of the repercussions that would follow. This is truly a very scary precedent and I can only wonder as to how corrupt government really is from top to bottom (I mean...waaayyy worse than I could have imagined).

Stayed up until 2 am last night watching episode 3/4. Addicting, and very odd story.

  4. The old chicken and egg: what comes first, stable line combos or good line combos that remain stable because they're good? I don't hate the line juggling in and of itself, but what drives me absolutely insane is how frequently he changes lines without going to combinations that I think are common sense to try. It's like my first instinct is his last resort.

I don't mind him juggling lines. He is trying to find consistency , and good style/play combos. The only real consistent line is R O'Rs other than that it is a work in progress. Injuries have played into it as well. I have faith in Disco.....

Harken back to the halcyon days of late October early November when the board was afire with playoff matchup talk. The difference is the goaltending has regressed to the mean and the speed of Pysyk supporting on the third pair is missing. We still lack finishers on the wing. I was not a fan of the hire, but I see some signs that the "structure" he is trying to install will bear fruit. Eichel is improving in his own zone because his responsibilities are pretty consistent. When he was struggling offensively he could still focus on those and keep his confidence up. Reinhart has been given a fairly conservative but well established role and he is excelling. Risto is becoming more of the O threat we hoped because the go no go decision points are more simple and apparent. The pk is much more disciplined.

The beer league structure of last year is gone. I still think we need some different players to be more competitive in the long haul but I will give a first year coach with a very young team some time. I see development and that is all I hoped for this season.

    Very good post, agree 100%

    Gionta on the PP.

That's all one needs to keep in mind when accessing Disco Dan's coaching expertise, so far anyway.

What other winger can he pencil in?
  5. Be nice to Rayzor. For a man who spent roughly 20 years getting punched in the head for a living he's reasonably perspicacious.

Jack Edwards is just the worst. I've ranted on it before, but anyone who can be fired from announcing US soccer games solely for an American audience because his homerism knows no bounds needs his microphone taken away.

How could a Sabres fan not love Ray? I would much rather have him as the color guy than anyone else in the league....
  6. The one quote about how the guy felt excited to be going, then the excitement just drained away once he got to the arena, rang a bell with me. I often feel this way. Look at the picture. Depressed, bored, slouching people. Maybe a culling of these people from the stands would be good. Why go if you're that miserable?

Anyway, maybe what MODO says happens in Swedish arenas could help here. Each section has a captain or captains to get things going.

We'll need something, it's embarrassing to be the only one screaming like an idiot.
  7. I can drink better than Jack, I'll guarantee you that

Dunno, could have been a wild Freshman year for him....

This, mostly. I love Jack Eichel. He is so talented he is going to score more than 20 goals despite the fact the game is often moving too fast for him right now. He can't do things he is used to doing and he isn't the go-to guy he is used to being. He's frustrated by it, and sometimes it shows.

It's adversity but I think he is a competitor and I think he will be better for it in the long run.

It's nobody's fault, it's just part of the learning process.

He isn't playing as well as his talent would suggest but that is OK because he is just 19.

Your Buffalo Sabres aren't winning as much as their talent would suggest, but that is OK because they are just 30 games removed from being the worst team in hockey.

And like your Buffalo Sabres, Jack Eichel will be much more than just fine.

    good perspective....

  8. First game of my minipack! I thought this would be a really fun game to go to because of how the Ducks play, but man, they might be the most disappointing team in the league this year. All I really want to see is a win, Eichel on O'Reilly's wing, Reinhart centering Kane, Gionta on the 3rd line, Girgensons in the top-6, and a minion save. Not asking for too much, am I?

I would love to see Eichel playing wing for R'OR

  9. With the Bills moving back to Royal Blue, Red and White, would you want your OneBuffalo to have a single color scheme? The thought is the Sabres will eventually go back to Royal Blue, but would they go one step further and drop the gold for red? Would that make you see red?

I find the OneBuffalo logo to be quite tortured.

how much wood could a woodchuck chuck? I like the One Buffalo slogan. I think the teams should keep their own color schemes.

  10. Rasmus is getting a raise. I big freaking raise. So you can sign him for up to 8 years... how many years and how much money?

    I say 7.25mil X8 years.

Before tonights Redwings game for defenders:

    5th in goals

    7th in assists

    5th in points

    9th in ppp

    8th in shots and

    20th in TOI

tree fitttty........whatever it takes to keep him here. 7+ seems right.

  11. I understand that.

I don't really care as much about the tax breaks.

I care about the check for X that the county will give to Pegula to build the stadium.  The NFL made north of 9 Billion dollars last year. Terry Pegula is worth something north of 4 Billion alone. The NFL should be funding new stadiums not tax payer dollars from hard working Americans who are already overworked and underpaid.

Here's an article about what states and counties pay for Stadiums http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/complicated-and-expensive-what-recent-nfl-stadium-deals-can-teach/article_b7146513-2a04-5aff-ad0e-dd2047b7867e.html

    "

Those city taxes, however, aren’t yet available — they’re still paying off debt on the Metrodome.

Construction started late in 2013. The toll has risen from $975 million to $1.1 billion. The public will pay for just under half."

500million Dollars in state money going to an industry that makes 9 Billion annually seems like total ###### to me.

    Good post, and argument.
  12. I bought an O'Reilly, and a Camo pattern from Veteran's Day. Had the Camo personalized with Jack, haven't worn it yet.

There's an unwritten rule that once you're over thirty, the only players whose jerseys you should wear are your kids or retired players, otherwise your own name or leave it blank.

hmmm, never heard of that rule. Think at over 30+, I can wear whatever and not care what anyone thinks.

  13. I think that's the point of GMTM trades.  They don't win on paper perhaps, but there is another level to his trades that can't be assessed with facts and figures.  He's not winning trades, he's building a team.  I know that since the beginning of the season my opinion of Leggy has changed (to be more inline with what I thought of him earlier in his career).

    Very accurate assessment.

  14. Interesting.

This board actually augments my understanding of, appreciation for people IRL (not "people" around here, mind you -- like, out there -- in The Matrix).

Days gone by, I took a very, very dim view of any claim of shifting allegiances among favourite sports teams. But I have enough respect for a poster like Josie to understand that, if this can be her experience, it's a valid one.

Your mileage may vary, of course. But I'm open to the idea of having a "new" favourite team.

While I'm not big baseball fan, maybe now I can finally allow myself to claim the Jays. (Short story shorter: While I grew up in a market that is now devoted to the Jays, the Jays hadn't started playing when I was a wee lad. Moreover, my Dad and paternal grandfather were staunch Yankee fans.)

I am a Homer, when the Sabres/Bills are finished so is my season.  I really wish I could find interest in another team.

The Red Wings last game they lost to the Florida Panthers on Sunday night. Just letting you know we appreciate your effort and time and I actually read your right ups.

I will never correct your spelling. Those that live in glass spelling houses shall never correct the misspelled word. I guarenty that, else I am a hyporcrit.

    priceless......I literally chocked.

  15. The Buffalo Sabres will kick off the month of December by strolling into Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night for a divisional match-up against Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red wings. The Sabres have come out rolling from their 6 game losing streak, winning 2 straight games against the Canes and Preds, both 4-1 victories. The Sabres will look to continue their offensive groove and therefore their success as they look to edge closer to that playoff spot the Red Wings hold onto. Tonight's game will also see a squaring off of America's hockey future as USA teammates Eichel and Larkin will face one another for the first time in the NHL.

The Red Wing are coming in hot though. Going 4-0-3 in their last 7, the Red Wings only have one problem, finishing; which is weird in a league where going into the 3rd leading almost promises you a win (no, I don't know how to spell guaruntee, and I never will). Detroit has blown 3rd period leads in 4 straight, 5/7, and 7 times this season overall. So, if we're down late, grab another cold one and sit back down. The Red Wings sit 6 points up (28) on the Sabres right now, and are coming off a 2-1 OT loss vs. Detroit on Monday

Given Johnson's success lately, he'd be my bet to start. Mrazek will get the nod from the Red Wings, (6-4-3, 2.19, .932%). Carlos Coliacavo (no way that's spelled right) was back at practice Monday and will play tonight, and Pysyk was also back skating. Still no Ennis on the ice.

  16. Frankly I'm happy that they are considering alternatives.  Rayzor and May just aren't that good, and I'm not sold yet on Dunleavy either.

Ray is very good. I think he brings an honest players perspective to the color commentary, and has a good sense of humor to boot.

As far as I can gather from Twitter, Barnaby hates everything Buffalo.

you wouldn't be able to tell from the way he hob nobs when at the Amherst Ale House.

  17. It doesn't read like he's back, it reads like he's dropping by to shame us.

    Thankfully not to fat shame.

Eichel is soft pedling board work, Reinhardt is out working him, seeing Eichel despite talent being lost and timid at this point. Needs to pick it up.

He has been off lately, cant quite put a finger on it.

  18. Why? Because his trade value may still be high? I can understand that, but I'm still pulling for the guy. He's not pulling a Leino or Hodgson. Things will begin to play out. And when they do it'll benefit the Sabres.

20 more games until the "let's trade Eichel", thread?

I never understood why everyone was so in love with Ennis. I think he's a good guy and I love his effort, but I don't see him ever breaking the 50 point barrier. For a guy who doesn't have the size to win battles, he needs to be putting up 65+ to justify a spot on the top scoring lines. I just see a lot of dangling leading to turnovers.

In a perfect world, he would be the guy that makes someone like Matt Moulson a star, with slick passes leading to easy finishes. It just hasn't been the case.

He has been potting 20 a year, that puts him in the upper echelon of players. Why would we get rid of an Offensive, decent two way player?
