  1. It is a results based business. If I were the owner I would ask the GM, "Where are the results?"

Tim Murray has a lot of people who defend him, but considering all the assets at his disposal when he arrived, what has he really accomplished? Frankly, not much.

It remains to be seen, but I believe history will show his time as Buffalo GM will end as a failure.

I don't see that as being the case. I still expect us to be better than last year at seasons end. I stated this before in another thread, this is a re-beuild, if anyone truly thought we woukd make a serious deep push this year they are nuts.

Now, I know the scoring issues among other things that have been pointed out are concerning, but the season isn't over yet, and we will still be an improved team. We need a few more pieces forward wise which I do not believe we have in the system now.

  2. Agree, be more entertaining

The thing that has drove me nuts is lack of bodies in front of the net, and the parimeter game the forwards are playing.

What evidence do you have to support this? Dan's coaching the same way he did when he first implemented his system in Pittsburgh, following the cup run in 2009.

I don't have any evidence, or fancy numbers. The scheme he had to open the season was predicated upon who he had in the lineup. Now he has everyone back, they are slowly trying to implement the orginal system. Just my take, not saying it is right.
  3. It all hinges on what Murray wants. Scenarios:

    1) Murray wants LA-East: Bylsma is safe at least through this time next season. Though a staple of those LA teams, a heavy two-man forecheck, is something Bylsma rarely employs, so there is not complete safety here. They agree on vision, but not tactics.

    2) Murray wants a Pens-style attack: Bylsma's clock is ticking, though one has to wonder how such a disconnect happened.

    3) They're totally on the same page from vision to tactics, but also both recognize the roster isn't there to pull it off: Bylsma is safe until the time the roster is "set."

    4) Murray thinks the team is better than its results, even if he and Bylsma agree on approach: Bylsma's clock is ticking.

Two style based, two results based. Of these, I think 1 & 3 are the most likely for right now, with 4 coming into play depending how the rest of the season plays out. Hard to know how viable #2 is without being inside the interviews. Did Bylsma say what he had to say to get the job? Maybe he was completely sincere, but has fallen back to what he's comfortable with rather than truly changing. Regardless, if #2 truly is the case, that has to be concerning for any subsequent coaching hires (there's a reason I labeled it #2).

In any event, I find a hard time seeing Bylsma's job in real jeopardy before the end of the season unless the wheels completely fall off while the roster is healthy, which I don't think is especially likely. I also think that once Bylsma is fired, the clock starts ticking on Murray--the next coach had better be the right coach.

Very good post. IMO #3 it is. We don't have all the pieces in place yet. We need a good young forward or two yet. I like the D we have in the farm, am less enthused about the forwards.
  4. This is year two of the rebuild, all the talk of fire DD is absolute non-sense. I thought we were better than the posters at TBD. Relax people it isn't over yet. With all of the injuries we have had it's been impossible for these guys to have played any type of sustained minutes together. Did anyone honestly believe we would be going deep into the playoffs this year?

Gorges is having statistically the worst season of his entire 13 season NHL career if it continues. His productivity is 556 minutes, 3x to 4x worse than his previous 2 seasons with the Sabres. His PIM rate is a tie for his worst year ever, last season. He's got ONE point after 29 games!!!

His performance has been worse since he came to Buffalo - and this is the worst of the worst so far. Perhaps the way he's being coached and used in the game is to blame? He's never been strong with defensive assists, but this is a Leino-esque performance.

Perhaps he is getting old, or he was protect in Montreal. Both Georges, and Franson need to go.
  5. Yes. Dorothy would have stabbed him with the heel of her ruby slippers. These ###### were my hockey soundtrack for seven years.

I know, lived there for eight before moving home last year. Those fans are horrible as well. They couldn't give away seats before the conference finals with Pitt. That god awful Oooo, and reeedddd at the anthem piss me off like no tomorrow.
  6. http://buffalonews.com/2016/12/01/bucky-gleason-sabres-fans-give-vesey-chilly-reception/

Let's see.... Hey Bucky how did you feel when a young lady (many?) rejected you for a date? It's really that simple. The fans sincerely hoped he'd sign here and with the Eichel connection and an improving team that just convinced Okposo to join the team, we all thought we had a legit shot of getting the talented winger. However just like Babcock and even Stamkos, we were again a bridesmaid and that is frustrating.

The booing doesn't mean the fans don't respect his decision or his right to make the decision, but they have every right to show their displeasure at the decision.

Do the majority here really feel we missed out on Babcock? I for one, am happy we landed DD instead.
  7. This is way over-analyzed. The PLAYERS, have to execute within the system to be successful, and they are not executing. Murray, or Disco are not the issue. The Players are not finishing chances, and way too many defensive lapses are the problem. The fact that our goalie cannot stop anyone during the shootout also adds to them not collecting the extra point.

  8. And when Buffalo is one of the two best teams in the East, I'd suspect they will win games without their top players.

Bingo, considering the fact we have been without 6 starters in the lineup, the season is not anywhere near lost.

  9. My Buffalo people driving 5 mph under the speed limit, seems everyone is stuck in winter driving mode; then flip me off, or beep as I drive by doing 65. If you ever have flipped off a guy in a Black GMC and he opens the rear window,  waves, and blows kisses at you. Yup, that was me.

Shopping with my wife since 11am. This is awful. Just ###### awful. This is the reason I wear clothes from 2003. Anything new that I own was bought online. This is the reason children are always missing at the mall. They aren't lost, they ###### run away! No end in sight. I don't give a ###### if anyone is judging me for sitting on the floor. Put some chairs in here! No end in sight.

That is the reason none of my clothes fit. I run in grab the size I was last year, get home to find out it doesn't fit. Then it goes into the closet with the rest of my clothes with the tags still on them..

My wife works from home which is great, sort of.  She's....ALWAYS...HOME... There is no escape, no sanctuary, no respite.  The warden's eye is always cast upon me....

    Take back your castle.

  10. I hope freeman sees this and comments upon it.

Tonight, I was out with my friend J at a bar.

The bar was full.  A woman entered my space to order drinks.  That's ok.  That happens at bars.

I went to put something in my pocket, and the left end of my left hand grazed her butt.  That happens at bars, too.  Immediately, it was "I'm sorry, excuse me."

What happens later is in hours and minutes.

0:10  A woman comes up and accuses me of sexually assaulting her friend.  I didn't even know what she was talking about.  Once she explained, I explained what happened.  She said, ok, but what was your hand doing near my friend's ass?  Me, well, I was either gesturing while speaking, or putting something in my pocket.  Sorry I bumped your friend.  I did apologize to her.  People get bump into people, or things, all the time.  She:  I believed you until your people bump into things all the time excuse.

0:12  Said woman involves some "muscle," whom I presume to be someone who dates one of the women.  Now J, who is as big as a house, gets involved.  They argue over whether millenials need safe spaces.

0:15  I decide to shut it down.  J, stop; I can fight my own battles.  J:  (To the woman and the muscle, not me); he's right; he's the best litigator I know in Buffalo.  Me:  Look, I'm sorry if I hurt your friend, but I already did apologize to her and I will again if she'd like to talk.  If not, that's ok, too.

0:40  The women are back.  One of them (wearing an orange bandana--relevant later) is deliberately touching my butt every three or four minutes.  I'm ignoring it.  I'm having a conversation with my friend about which James Bond movie is best.  This, this is real bar talk.

0:41  I go to and return from the bathroom.  A very tall woman tells me that she'll call the police if I ever touch her friend again.  I tell her and her friend (the woman at 0:10) that this is nonsense, that they are harassing me, and that I want them to leave me alone.  They walk away.

0:45  Bartender (a woman, and a friend) learns of this and starts laughing at the idea that I would grab a woman's ass in the middle of the bar.  J and I explain that this, presently, is not a laughing matter.  We drink shots.

1:10  Four women are surrounding me with accusations.  I say, "which one of you is the one who claims I touched her?  Can I explain and apologize again?"  No one answers.  Finally, Orange Bandanna speaks up.  "She's outside."  "Ok, let's talk." (By the way, no one is outside.) Now I get cross-examined by Orange Bandanna.

I explain that hey, I bumped into someone, all that is all that.  Orange Bandanna now tells me that I slapped her friend on the butt.  I explained that the only woman whose butt I'd like to touch has been in the ground for two and a half years.  She insists that I slapped her friend on the butt.  We eventually agree to disagree, I guess.

    I NEVER SLAPPED ANYTHING.

I did graze a butt with my hand.

I did so because it was crowded and because the butt in question invaded MY space.

These women ruined my night with a friend.

I get that women are at risk.  I really do.  But...

Please think of this the next time you presume to accuse, or the next time you presume that accusations are accurate.

Did the poker of your butt give you her #?

  11. We aren't a highly skilled team with the exception of a few players.

    DD isn't a hockey savant.

    So, both.

He may not be a genius, but he is a very good coach. His systems work. We have the players in the system but due to maturity, and injuries we are not quite there yet. three out of 6 points on this swing is not bad.

  12. Actually it was quite loud with Sabres fans and they would combat it with 3 mikes hanging over the small hard core caps fans behind the benches hooked into the PA system to try and drown Sabres fans yelling lets go Buff-a-lo... At least once we overpowered the PA system... The whole upper bowl of the Cap Center was Blue and Gold... Lot of fun in the early 90s

Hell it was like that with Sabres fans as the majority until they made the Conference finals against Pitt. Nothing but a bunch of retreads in that city, and bandwagon riders.
  13. The Ottawa announcers last night pondered if Jack "the Yeichel" Eichel would be a full time center this year in the NHL. He had a lot to work on last year but will he actually make the transition?

What say you SS, will Jack Eichel our #2 center for 81 games last year, finally step up and be center for 82 games this year? Or will he be like Nathan Gerbe who just never managed to play a full season at center? (Shrader come back, we miss you  )

If he gets traded to a Canadian team then he will play centre. There is no way he moves to the wing. His skills are better suited for the middle. DD brought it up in an interview the other night, "Anyone can play wing".

  14. It's already a little chilly in the bedroom of Elevenland.

I've always waited until Oct 1 at the earliest.

But I woke up COLD last night!

    So what so we think?

Funny you mention this. I didn't think anything of it Saturday night, woke up freezing. My poor little four month old was as well.  I went downstairs, and the house was 64 degrees. So yes, turn it on. I did,
