  1. I think Botterill's hope and plan is for Nylander to have a Guentzel-esque season - dominate the minors, come up, step into a slot with Jack or ROR and never look back.

I also have a serious concern that Nylander is on a Buffalo or bust mission and he may not take a Rochester start very well.

    That should be the case.

I'm still advocating we blare this on the PA whenever Innenstadt Mittlelstadt scores.

I literally choked, and almost blew diet Pepsi out of my nose.

  2. If you look at this thread I think most of the fan base feels exactly like you do. A lot of minimizing both Butcher's potential and our ability to get him going on here. Very little hype or excitement.

I am fine either way. I think our D has improved significantly over last season.

  3. Butcher's agent makes it sound like he was essentially ignored by Colorado during his second and third years and made to feel he was not going to be offered a contract before they got interested again when he started lighting it up this year.

That was all on Roy. Both cases, it is partially his fault that team is in shambles.

    obviously :)

Vesey and his camp flat out lied about Poile and the Preds.

I've not yet heard of any shenanigans between Sakic and Butcher other than the fact Butcher informed them he wasn't going to sign... unlike Vesey who dragged them along and then got into a "he said, she said" ordeal like a 9 year old.

Colorado didn't offer him a contract while Roy was there. Said he was too small. Then they tried to revers course after Roy left, and the damage was done.

  4. surprised so many of us seeing the sabres contend for a playoff spot. Anyone planning a parade yet ? :P

I think we contend for a playoff spot, but just miss making it. We are still a stud left wing away from the playoffs. Assuming our D improves, and the young kids make a step upward it will be an entertaining year.
  5. He was shitcanned before he could fix it. He knew it was priority #1 this offseason, but he didn't have the chance. Folks forget that he inherited one of the worst all time teams in recent memory... two offseaons wasn't enough to address all the needs... he didn't do anything wrong IMO.

Agree 100%. TM knew what his vision was, and how to acquire it. He wasn't given enough time to let it come to fruition. The only head scratcher was the Pysk trade for me. But, that is why he was a GM with a very keen eye for talent, and the rest of us can sit behind a keyboard and pretend to be.

    Absolutely

No. I do not believe Botterill wants him on the team

It is very hard to replace Kane's style of play, and production. There is not one forward on this roster, or player avaliable this year that could.

Montreal protected Benn over Emelin. So many quality D available to the Knights (although expensive D) They left former Sabres Ott, Mitchell and Flynn unprotected.

Colorado left Grigorenko unprotected. Florida left Marchessault un protected and protected Pysyk and Petrovic - stupid

    Available D

McGinn? I was really upset when they didn't pull him back a few years ago in the offseason.
  6.

Here's a negative view from a Preds fan, taken from hfboards:

I wish him the best, I think he's a great guy and he'll definitely help the D-men. I think he'll be a pretty poor head coach though. The two facets of the Preds that he was most involved in other than working with the defenseman (power play and OT) were the two worst aspects of the Preds and he never seemed to be able to adjust at all.

Good thing he will have assistants to run those.
  7. But hey, if you really like being called an N word over and over, first person shooters are the place for you.  Given my penchant for pointing out people's similarities to Doug Whaley, I fit right in.

I turn off in game chat, that way I don't have to yell at little kids.

  8. The reputation of the City of Buffalo has improved quite a bit lately, including to people from outside the area. It's generally regarded as the latest Rust Belt Renaissance city. It's not New York City, but then again, not everyone wants that.

As for the Sabres, they're coming out of a historically bad period of hockey with a decent stock of talented players. A young player could be discouraged by that because the Sabres aren't good (yet)/don't have a history of winning, or he may see an opportunity to jump into the middle of the depth chart with an excellent chance to get to the NHL quickly, perhaps even as a starter, or how may see the challenge of joining a program intent on building for the future.

So you can convince yourself that this is exactly where he wants to be, or exactly where he doesn't want to be, but only he knows. Even if he intends to sign with the Sabres, it would be smart on his part to wait and see who the coach turns out to be and how the dust settles after the expansion draft to see what the organization looks like and how he fits into the depth chart.

It has nothing to do with the city, it has everything to do with the current state of the franchise. Why do we care anyhow? We are set at Goaltender. This guy has put up some good numbers in College, but he would still be 3-4 years away from starting if at all

When the Sabres signed Barrasso out of high school, they started him. They took a chance and he was a superb goalie. If Buffalo signs Peterson, I hope they give him the starter's job and trade Learner. I don't think goalies necessarily need work in the AHL like the rest of the positions do.

Are you crazy? He wouldn't be ready for a starting role in the NHL. There is not one team that would give him the reigns. Goalies take years to develop.
  9. I started as a definite no to Tocchet. Seemed like an older retread, and the gambling thing didn't help. Seemed like JAG. I have been hearing quite a few positives lately that have me warming up to the idea if JBOT goes that way. Kessel said that Tocchet was the best assistant coach he ever played for. If Tocchet can relate to a D-Bag like Kessler, and relate to Crosby and Malkin at the same time, maybe there is something to him. Not saying I want him here, but I'm more open to the idea than I was 3 weeks ago.

The players love him, but can be coach Xs, and Os? I think Housley would be the most expierenced, especially with his International success.
  10. I disagree with the hands part. I think that is what separates the wannabe NHLer from the guy that makes it. Hands, and I am not limiting it tonscoring touch, but the ability to control the puck at NHL level speed and pace is the biggest difference between those that stick and those that don't.

Silky smooth hands, a beard, and a nice flowing salad.
  11. I agree Tiger will not match his Majors record. But wow in 2008 it almost looked like a sure thing. 14 Majors for Tiger at the age of 32? Simply incredible. Now the guy is 41. Nicklaus doesn't have much to worry about.

If it weren't for injuries, he would have crushed it. He has still won the most events in golf history. Not too shabby.

It all started to go downhill around the same time his Dad died. No moral compass ? Him and Dad were together for most if not all of Tigers life. The definition of a helicopter parent. Hard to feel sorry for the guy. He had it all.

What doesn't he have? More money than he could spend? Sponsorships? Fame? I agree, he could have handled things a lot differently. Nobody, but him, and his X- Wife know what led to his transgressions. But I would have to say the guy has transcended almost everyone in golf but Jack.
  12. Stammer would have been in lieu of Okposo. But I'm confident he would have made 3-4million more per year than we're paying Okposo. Would I swap Okposo plus 3.5M a year for a healthy Stamkos? Probably for the near term, but the way things shook out leave it undoubtably easier to fill out the team once extensions are handed out.

Good point. I am always weary of signing these elite guys that have had injury issues. There is no way we would be able to fit all of these guys under the cap as mentioned above.

  13. Truly awesome that you made the long track to come see the Amerks/Sabres, definition of a true fan. I wish that I would have payed attention to your coming to see Buffalo, I would have loved to meet up with you all. Sorry to hear about your Mother, she has a good Son by her side. Cheers!!!
