Jack is still my favorite player in my time watching the franchise, and I hold him responsible for a vanishingly small amount of our struggles during his time here.

Which will be frustrating, because there's no way there isn't a workable way to dump some of that value (downgrade Comtois, remove 2022 first) or add stuff to Eichel to get another premium piece ie Zegras/Drysdale, at least in principle.

I posted this during the season and it didn't really pick up the steam I thought it would. Before the losing streak even started, the Sabres played 7 straight games, and like 23 consecutive periods or something, in which their only goals came on the power play or on point shots.

Like a month ago a little birdie we all know and love told me that he potentially might be more interested in a long term deal with Buffalo than certain press conferences may have let on. But I haven't checked in on that since then, and it certainly wasn't stated as absolute fact. Had I not heard this, I would be entirely in the "he's long gone" camp. But I have some hope.

I fully believed at the time and still do today that the Jack Eichel I last watched healthy, before this hellish mockery of an nhl season, could have lifted this franchise's first cup had this franchise not done everything else wrong in the last 6 years. But we are too far down this road now and both need a reset.

For me its shortness (just under 4 months yeah?) Makes it a little more tolerable than 17-18, when we knew in game 2 that the season was DOA and had 80 more games to play. But that 18 game streak is easily the worst stretch of sabres hockey I've ever seen, the bits of it I watched anyway
