looks like Baptiste got very lucky last night. He caught a stick in the face and was forced to leave the game. His coach said that he was about 3mm away from losing one of his eyes. f "Erie Otters winger Nick Baptiste left Saturday night's win against North Bay in the second period after being struck close to his eye by a high stick. He didn't return to the game. Head coach Kris Knoblauch said Baptiste was fortunate to escape serious injury. "Apparently, another 3 millimeters, he probably would have lost sight in his eye," Knoblauch said. "But they think he's going to be OK." Knoblauch didn't have an update on Baptiste's status moving forward." Victor Fernandes @GoErieHockey 12h 12 hours ago . @NickBaptiste wrapped up the autograph session by telling me "I'm good." #erie

Yep forgot about him. I am disappointed that he won't be at the Prospects Game this Thursday due to injury.

next year will be funny because yes I agree the tank will be over - selling off assets for futures but I would think there is still going to be a lot of losing. I think those in Tank Nation are still going to take a lot of abuse from those who are Anti-tankers who think that we think that the turnaround will be immediate. There may be 1 more high draft pick in 2016 before things truely improve for the Sabres.

I'll make this wild prediction right now that Kylington drops into the 20's and maybe even out of the first round. I agree with you Derrico - I was really hoping for two top 10 picks before the season started. Now we have to hope either the Blues and Isles drop down into the Wild Card slots and go out in the first round. Then we have 2 picks between 15 and 22 plus the #2 overall. You are then looking at a draft that nets you Eichel (20% McDavid) and guys like Svechnikov, Meier, Greenway, Harkin and Bittner. Another guy who hasn't got a lot of love yet is Dergachev - he played with Russia on their WJC team this year - I think we will see moving up the draft ranks as we get closer to the draft. Or maybe if Zacha drops out of the top 8 - you have the ammo to move up to grab him. i would think its a really good possibility but the main guys Hanifin, Werenski and Provorov will be gone. Leaves Carlo, Meloche, Roy and Kylington as potential draft picks

Wonder if there are still Colt fans upset that they Tanked? Is there a guy like Mike Harrington in the Indianapolis Post still writing that they "tainted" the NFLbecause of their Tank?

I know, Patrick Kane hasn't been able to do a thing come play-off time. :wallbash:
-
He is a fourth line centre to me for the Sabres in a few years just like he was for team USA at the WJC

Another game another 4 point night for Marner - now pulling away from Stome for the OHL scoring lead Now avgeraging 2.10 pts per game for season. over his last 31 games he is averaging 2.61 pts per game. McDavid in his 22 games is averaging 2.59 pts per game. Connor is still clear cut #1, Eichel is #2 but the team that lands Marner is going to have a star. If Sabres end up drafting 3rd (though can't see how they dont end up in 30th) and land Marner - just imagine him and Samson on the Sabres top line in a few years. Tank still very much worth it. i watched a few of his games when he was in the SHL. He can fly like the wind and has great offensive skills. Overall he was still over matched on the defensive end in the top Swedish league and has been much better now that he has been loaned to AIK in the 2nd tier. Shame he missed the WJC though - would have been great avenue to compare him against his peers. I would think he would remain in Sweden for a couple more years before being ready to compete in NHL.

not to call you out but what are you basing your judgement of Martin on? the mysterioius case of Pavel Zacha continues as he picked up an injury after being slashed last night. He has missed a bunch of time due to suspension and injury. Just maybe this pushes him down draft boards as he has looks to have all the tools of a top level prospect but hasnt put up points (OHL and WJC) to match his talent? Maybe he drops enough for the Sabres to consider trading up to take the big winger/centre?

Mitch Marner article from Hockey News: Maybe my Patrick Kane 2.0 is catching on? ok, really not that genius of me since they both played for the Knights and are about the same size but still... http://www.thehockey...ting-on-a-show/

This is why I think Murray is a Genius - he keeps Nolan who wasn't HIS guy cause he knows that Nolan can't do anything with this group. Once this team is ready to make a step forward (maybe 15/16 16/17) he will be replaced.

pressure from whom?? OMG Pegula is fully down with this plan and half the fan base is cheering every loss! I know I am full on Tank and I don't care if they lose 2-1 in a hard fought game or 7-0. Actually its a lot less stressful for me when its 7-0 and I can move over and watch the Oilers game.
-
Doubt it - they have a star in Tavaras and the team is loaded with high end talent with more to come.
-
Completely agree, this is going to take time. They can't force young players into rolls they are not ready for. WHo knows - if they land Eichel maybe he goes back to school for a year longer. Samson may still need time to physically develop as well. So sit back and relax cause even though the "tank" may be over - the losing may go on for a while yet. Just know that once all these Just one thing management has done wrong? you must have a list since you've decided they are incompetent. Don't like the trade of Miller to the Blues? Or Mouson to the Wild and then re-signing Moulson? maybe you don't like the FA Gorges and Gionta? Is it that you don't think Reinhart was a good pick? and they kid scoring at almost a Goal a Game with an edge to his game wasn't a smart pick in the 2nd round. Please I'd love to hear what Sabres MGMT has done wrong.
-
where did management go wrong? what would you have done different?
-
seriously, there is an arguement that if the Sabres traded for Boychuk and Leddy we would be how much further in the standings? the free agent acquistions by Murray are perfect - gets them to to floor and lets McCabe and Pysyk mature in Rochester and the Sabres battle for last. PERFECT!
-
c'mon you do get what is happening right?
-
I would move up if Marner drops due to his size scaring off teams with so much talent coming out this year. But I agree they may want to keep their 3 picks (maybe even 4 if Murray can work some miracles with his UFA's). The only other factor I can think of is the 50 contract limit teams have. Anyone know how many contracts the Sabres currently have? Still think Fasching, Compher and Hurley have to be signed relatively soon. if they haven't already.
-
i think maybe Crouse or Zacha could also play in NHL by next year due to their size. Most other high end prospects seem to still put on some bulking up to do. I'm going to guess the Oilers have FINALLY learnt their lesson and whomever they draft (McDavid and Eichel not withstanding) are playing in the CHL, NCAA or Europe next year. But then again it is the Oilers.
-
the first 10 games of the season Marner started extremely slow (10GP 1G 4a) as LGR mentioned not sure of the reason - maybe it took him time to adjust from 3rd line last year to be the main man with so many Knights prospects leaving or in NHL camps? However, since then he is scoring at a 2.56PPG which is definitely in Patrick Kane territory. new Sportsnet rankings - http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/top-30-nhl-draft-prospects-january/ Mitchel has a negative arrow next to his name which doesn't seem right at all considering how he has played in last 3 months. call it the WJC effect as Rantinen (who did have had a great tourney) passed him. I doubt anyone give up a top 5 pick this year but if both Isles and Blues go out in first round (so we have say pick 18 and 22) - maybe we have the ammo to move up to 7 or 8. Then again we can still hope for the Isles to lose Tavares or the Blues to stop scoring 6 per game and still miss the playoffs?
-
The only way I would want Myers to be traded (unless someone does give him an offer he can't refuse) is if the Sabres get the 3rd pick overall and they believe Hanifin is the best option.

Here is a date to mark on the calendar for draft nerds like myself - TSN's mid-season NHL draft rankings will be released in half hour show at 7:30 pm ET Jan. 27.

1. Mitch Marner (5th from 18th pre-season ranking) London, OHL, C, 5’11, 164 (34-27-38-65) I had reasonably high expectations for Mitch coming into the season as his even strength points per sixty minutes (ES 60) of 3.1 last year were the best of the first year draft eligible players for 2015 in the CHL not named Connor McDavid (who had 3.9). However, Mitch came out of the gates sputtering this season with only 4 points in his first ten games. Since then, Mitch has been just about if not the hottest player in junior hockey with 64 points in his last 24 games played. He kind of reminds me of Kyle Turris of the Ottawa Senators in his draft year – skinny as a beanpole but man can he play hockey. I think Mitch may have even more offensive upside than Turris. Size is not going to hold Mitch back due to his speed, vision, creativity, defensive ability and all-around offensive skills. He is simply an elite hockey player, something of a hybrid of Jonathan Drouin andNikolaj Ehlers, which is why I have bumped him up to 5th.

They will be compensated by being able to watch Eichel or McDavid in the Blue in Gold for the next decade or so.
