Can we win a Cup without a Superstar forward?
Crusader1969 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I agree with this. I think I took the original post as bulking up to play in a violent NHL like it was back in the day. that being said , when I watch Quinn I don’t see a skinny kid out there -
The more I think about this the more i dislike brining in a high cost winger and blocking JJ’s path to the NHL im sure the Sabres can afford it and it may help them next season but longer term, getting JJ into the NHL and up to speed will pay dividends if you are going to spend big $. Do it on a RHD and / or a goalie. Though I’d wouldn’t like them to go long on the veteran goalie contract

Plus we need winners on the roster -
Can we put the narrative that JJ isn’t ready for the NHL to bed now? the kid is doing it all including killing Penalties.

New from the Hockey News Noah Warren, Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL) A hulking 6-foot-5 blueliner that embraces the defensive side of the game, Warren has been rising up boards as the season has worn on. The QMJHL defender plays a sound defensive game with the ability to move the puck upon retrieval but isn’t likely to be known for his offensive production. Warren closes out quickly in defensive transitions, closing the gap and using his reach to angle the attacker to the outside or using his 215lbs frame to punish an opposing player who chooses not to dump the puck deep. Warren uses his length when defending in zone as well, clogging up passing lanes and guiding play to the outside. His physicality is often used appropriately with the rare instance of chasing a hit. Warren's puck skills are improving, and while he may never truly become an offensive difference-maker, there is some potential for him to develop into a solid defense-first, transitional defender.

SAM RINZEL RHD Waterloo June 25 2004 6’4 181lbs Rankings: Bob Mckenzie 47 McKeens 41 Craig Button 42 Elite Prospects 21 USHL 14GP 1G 5A Sam Rinzel is an offensive defenseman, with prototypical height that NHL teams crave. We are starting to see him move up rankings as the season progresses. He played Minnesota HS hockey this season before joining Waterloo in the USHL. OFFENCE Elite Prospects "He’s a human highlight reel, confident as ever, as he maneuvers through into high-danger scoring areas. Add on a projectable in-stride, angle-changing wrist shot, the frame and handling habits to continue to protect the puck, and thought-out, deliberate placements of his shots, and he can do damage. Future Considerations "He drives transition from the backend, carrying the puck up and down the ice and is very good at completing zone exits and zone entries by himself. He has a strong playmaking ability, and his team’s offensive zone setup runs through him — even as a defenseman" The Hockey News "Rinzel is patient with the puck on his stick, drawing in opponents and then making a move right as the lane opens up. Rinzel is a skilled passer who can make a smart breakout pass or find a teammate on the backdoor from the blueline" DEFENCE Future Considerations “his size plays a big part in his strong defensive game but so was the way he used his stick as he was angling off attackers and deflecting incoming passes. He was very engaged with players without the puck, taking their stick away and totally wiping them out as a passing option" Elite Prospects "Rinzel has two modes while defending transitional attacks. The first is aggressiveness. Like a bull escaping through a gate at a rodeo, he has very little regard for his opponents at times. Rinzel’s second mode is actually fairly passive. He will often opt to concede his blue-line to keep the inside lane protected, only jumping to the side-boards if his opponent slows up or continues a perimeter route" SKATING Elite Prospects "The Chaska High defender is an overwhelmingly dangerous puck carrier; fearless like a formula-1 driver travelling at 260 KPH, manipulative like a hypnotist and as poised as a broadway actor. His skating, which is currently graded in the Elite Prospects database at 4.5-of-9, could potentially become above-average with some heel-push integrations and added strength" Future Considerations "His skating and fluid mobility in all three zones is his best attribute. Rinzel is calm with the puck on his stick. He makes the right decisions under pressure and has the skill to get himself out of any bad situation he may find himself in." Extremely interesting prospect and is gaining more and more attention as the season winds down. Elite prospects have him ranked in the 20s and could be in play for the Sabres with their 2 late first round picks. He is thought to be the best High School prospect and has stood head and shoulders above the competition. It seems his offensive output has fallen in the USHL with only 6points in 14 game but that could be due to an adjustment period playing against tougher competition. If the Sabres believe his raw talents will translate to the NHL I would rank him above the 3 other Dmen that I have profiled.

12 games left for the Knights. they did their bit with Back to Back wins over the Krakken they are still a point in front of Dallas , however the Stars still with 4 games in hand The Oilers and Preds now can see Vegas in the rear view mirror Knights next two are against the Canucks. Vancouver need 4 points in regulation in the back to back series to get back into the race

Brawndo, giving me a heart attack when you post here ...hold off till you get the Levi news 🤣 -
if you do both you are blocking Fitz and Bryson. I like 1 but I don't like selling assets to get a guy like Myers and the cost for the other 2 may be pretty high. I feel like im on an island in saying JJ needs to be in the NHL. he has nothing more to prove or learn the the AHL. oh and I like points 2 and 4!
-
yes , he needs to be in the NHL next year. im assuming you are doing 3 if you can't complete 1?
-
Watching the game last night and I’m thinking - who are the two guys being replaced by Quinn and JJ? Let’s assume the 12 forwards who played last night all are back for 22/23 my only thought right now is Asplund goes to 4th line center - replaced by JJ and Hinostroza get replaced by Quinn for the first time in 13 years there are actual roster decisions to be made !
-
I think he just needs structure in front of him. That’s why he’s looked better with NHL dmen in front of him rather than the hot mess The Amerks have iced due to injuries and callous.

Updated Sabres Prospect Pool 2021 and beyond
Crusader1969 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I have no doubt JJ would be a point per game producer on a relatively healthy Amerks squad. Had to shoulder the entire team at times this year -
Not sure Power left the ice in the last 6 mins. adds 3rd and 4th assist down the stretch. What a presence on the blue line. There’s an efficiency to his game, calm and cool guess we gotta wait another 2 weeks for him
-
Power. 👍
-
Wow. 4-3. The bottom pair have been on the ice for all 3 goals against the Wolverines Power needs to be on the ice for 6 of the last 9 mins we
-
We’ve got a game. 4-2 Michigan
-
Assist #2 for Power as we speak
-
Hughes is going to put up a lot of points in the NHL. He’s An excellent offensive Dman. He also has the benefit of not playing behind Dahlin
-
I predict we will see a thread “did Sabres pick the wrong Wolverine Dman”. Hughes has been extremely impressive wont surprise me if he puts up better offensive stats than Power. power is sooo smooth and confident and defensively plays a smart game rather than Physical. I can imagine there will be fans who mistake it for not giving effort
