Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
LTS replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
I can't explain why anyone likes him. The people who like him can explain it. I could hypothesize, and the hypothesis would focus on the bigotry being related to race and economic status. Every race has their own version of "<race> trash". I'm always open for discussion. I don't support tariffs. I'm not a fan of policies that are designed to make it harder for others to compete. More energy spent on keeping others down as opposed to making yourself better. The American people let the Chinese goods into the country, they ate it up. It's on them to fix it. -
Holy hell it's been a busy couple of weeks. Game will be in the background... regardless of what happens tonight, I'll still pop a cork at midnight and be happy for 2020. I liked 2019 as well. Here's to you and the Sabres. Cheers!

Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
LTS replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
No, I agree with that which is what i had said outright. Constraining the discussion for Trump, if one supports him, then one does so accepting that he has demonstrated his bigotry and hatred. It's just that one finds his redeeming qualities to outweight his negative. However, it's still support for the overall person. -

What are you getting at here? Are you referring to me or are you defending Trump's behavior by comparing it to the childish and immature behavior of some of his opposition? -

From my point of view, no, it's not cool. But it's easy for people to act as childish as those they oppose. At a minimum they can fall back on, "well, they did it." It's all BS. I know I am responding to a post that wasn't directed at me. I don't hate Trump. Hate is a strong word. Trump is completely incompetent for his position and I think he's not someone I would ever want to be around. He's a problem as the face of the country, and of that I have no doubt. Those who resort to the same childish, ignorant, and immature behavior to oppose him are no better. But again, that doesn't make him right, it just makes him equally wrong. -

Hate is hate, it doesn't matter what side you are on. Just because the left act like a bunch of jerks doesn't absolve the right from doing the same. It can be hypocritical for one side to speak it of the other but that doesn't change the fact that supporting Trump is supporting his bigotry and hate. If you take any equivalent person, from any political ideal, and they were like Trump, it would be the same scenario. As long as people continue to support these attitudes, nothing will improve. -
Dan Marino used to be able to intentionally ground the ball at will with impunity. I think certain players obtain a status where the official's line for calling the penalty is moved, even so slightly, in the favor of the player.

This is why its important to buy an Internet router that allows you control over what devices can access the Internet and when. No need to hide it if it simply cannot get on the Internet anyway. I have time limits on the games too for my kids. It's getting to the point now though that you can simply ask Alexa to block the Internet for the xbox. ?

This is the kid who threw his silver medal into the stands at the WJC right? He's whined in his time with the Rangers. I'm not sure his attitude is the right one for this team at this time. Maybe a 7th round pick for him.

As I typed out that sentence... that is exactly the scene I had in mind. In fact, I was trying to find a way to write that scene in such a way that it would apply to hockey. ? -

Yes. This is fundamentally true. In essence, if you support a person for their stance on a single issue and would put them in office because of it you are saying that issue is more important that the bigotry you acknowledge exists. I understand the point, that the alternative might be a worse decision, thus the concept of the lesser of two evils. However, we spend more time trying to determine who is more evil than trying to demand we get candidates who are just not evil in the first place. We're fundamentally broken because of it. That said, I'd prefer a President who can pull America together, not tear it apart like Trump is doing. Foreign policy, while important, is not nearly as important as governing the country you were elected to run. What good is having sit down talks with a North Korean dictator if your country is falling apart beneath you? I mean, we're not really falling apart yet but the foundations are being stressed to the highest levels they've ever been stressed I believe. -

Was going to miss the game today due to my son's varsity game.. but it would seem that the compressors at the rink failed overnight so the ice is toast. So, now i get to watch the Sabres game. Since I don't get NFL Network, I won't see the Bills. I thank the NFL for making it easier for me to get out and get stuff done. -
WTF! No game day thread? The boys are in Filly tonight (12/19/19) at 7ET

Thought maybe they were going to retire 91 on the night the Leafs were in town, but it's the Bruins that night.

Damn.... I'm saddened by the situation that brought this to fruition. I'm heartened by the "We're hanging with Dad no matter what." that your family displayed for him. I absolutely love that the nurse not only did not shut you down, but came back to hang out and help make it even more special. Cheers to you, your family, the nurse, and most of all your Dad.

So a football teams wins 10 games for the first time in 20 years and makes the playoffs, legitimately this time, in the same period and people still devolve into hating on each other. This is what is wrong with the Internet. It's okay to be happy. It's okay to not over analyze things, over debate things. It's okay.
-
And yet you don't run into me either... funny how that works. ?
-
I hope so, because it seems like this is holding up other things at this point.

Really... hmmm. I think Disney screwed themselves when they let Verizon give away a year of just Disney+... since i get that for free, I am not about to pay the money to add Hulu and ESPN+, although I had considered paying to get the package they had put together. I might have to rethink that though.

Hell yeah.. if i wasn't just in Detroit and Little Rock over the past week and half... Honestly, need to get there to experience some skating and some Christmas markets... A little rest is always good..

It's moments like this that irritate me about analytics. Analytics are statistics and they suggest trends. They do not define them. At best this person could post this and say Eichel might cool off. The implication in the above statement is that the poster has all the facts. However, let's say in any given a year a change in a piece of equipment, a rule change on goaltending equipment, or some other variable gets introduced. Until the models catch up to the new variable, either directly by it being incorporated or indirectly due to the metrics being used to determine the model, the model will show outliers. And yes.. Eichel is in a zone. There's no doubt. He's 10% shooter over his career, which, by most accounts, has not seen him at the top of his game. So.. perhaps he's a better shooter than we ever knew? Perhaps not. For now I am going to just enjoy watching Eichel play.. because he currently is playing as one of the best in the game.

Done traveling for quite some time now. IT will be good to sit down and watch a game. Caught parts of the Preds game from the hotel.

EDIT Bogosian Requests Trade, Now EROD wants One As Well
LTS replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
He did and I think his perseverance should be commended. But as a someone who has regularly chastised Matthews for being all about himself I was surprised you are somewhat defending Bogosian here. Being sat can piss you off, but the response should not be to go public with a trade request. Bogosian's best response on being healthy scratched should be: "We have a lot of very talented defenders and the competition level is high. I've been at a slight disadvantage having gone through surgery and recovering the early part of the season. The guys around me have done a great job and while I have worked really hard to get back into the game there's another level I can get to. There's another level that I need to get to. Clearly the coaching staff feels I can be better and that's my goal now." Unless there is some seriously political crap going on (there doesn't appear to be any) then any other response is Bogosian playing the ultimate "It's all about me card". I would also think Eichel's response was genuine, but he's also calling out Bogosian in a way. He's letting him know that his trade request is impacting the team while still acknowledging that Bogosian has to have his own self-interests in mind. It's a way of saying, "I get that you need ice time for your next contract, but openly talking about it is going to have an impact on the locker room." Really curious how Bogosian was received the next day. -
I would go with you being an old curmudgeon. And for what it's worth.. when Eichel scores people post a cat riding a unicorn with a rainbow... so.. I guess it's okay.
