  1. When people call for someone like Cozens to be captain I wonder how much serious thought they put into it. He is a 19-year-old kid with less than 1/2 a year experience. At your workplace, how inclined would you be to follow someone with that resume? No, it's not exactly the same thing, but it is relevant.
  2. I think this is probably the best move for this season.
  3. Disagree with this. They are choosing a top 3 pick this year over Jack to be their Kane, while Cozens, Dahlin and Mittelstadt are their Toews, Keith and Sharp
  4. He specifically has referenced Sam in that way on multiple occasions. He named Staal and Risto as well in the context of when he took over.
  5. Lafreniere. That simple. Other pieces can be part of it to make the cap work, etcetera, but in terms of important parts, that's it. Not Lafreniere+++, just Lafreniere. If I'm Drury that move improves my team immensely right now and likely moving forward as well.
  6. The Rangers best players are: Panarin 29 Zibanejad 28 Fox 23 Kreider 30 Shesterkin 25 They just acquired Ryan Reaves, 34, and Barclay Goodrow, 28. Trouba is 27 and Strome 28. Their window is tied to Panarin. That's why trading a good young piece makes sense, especially since Eichel is young and good enough to fit with any age group.
  7. History has shown that the "burn a year" thing is pretty much inevitable for high-profile guys coming out of college. Personally I think Power is better off dominating college this year than learning the NHL in Buffalo, but either way it's "blowing" the first year of control on a development year.
  8. ‘Hey Treliving, Jack has no interest in playing in Calgary. He might not report.” ”Hey Guerin, if you trade for Jack, I’m going to see you get squeezed so hard on the Kaprizov contract. ”Hey Murray, Jack’s not budging on the surgery thing. It’ll be next year before he laces them up. He may never be the same.” ”Hey McCrimmon, you didn’t hear it from me, but Jack ain’t the kinda guy you want in Sin City. You thinkKane has issues...” “Hey Drury, the fact if the matter is that Jack doesn’t need surgery.” Not saying any of things are actually happening, just illustrating the types of levers an agent has in order to get what he wants.
  9. I'm suggesting that Jack's team is doing what it can to get Jack to New York.
  10. I want Dell to start just so I can see those pads.
  11. Is anyone else of the opinion that the Rangers first made overtures to Adams last year because 'someone' suggested they should? Is anyone else of the opinion that a lot of people (and one hockey player in particular) want to see Jack Eichel in New York and a lot of pressure is being exerted on and influence exercised by a lot of parties in order to try and make that happen? Is anyone else of the opinion that these god-awful offers we have been hearing from New York are the result of a team that arrogantly thinks that Jack is theirs as long as they wait long enough and squeeze hard enough? I hate the fact that Eichel's agent is also Chris Drury's agent. And I wish to god that Calgary or Anaheim or Vegas or Minny could or would step up and ignore all of this insidious effort to paint Jack Eichel as broken, high risk, and not really interested in them and make the Sabres a serious offer. Because I believe that this has become simply a staring contest between the Rangers and Adams that won't end until one blinks.
  12. This is what I think too and I'm sure it's how both sides will spin it. I wonder what the actual discussion was and how if it is how each side actually feels.
  13. I am a big fan of Rasmus Asplund and the way he plays. I take it his 20-goal projection is based entirely on 7 goals in 28 games last year? Because as near as I can figure he had: 1 goal in 29 NHL games the previous year 13 goals in 111 AHL games 20 goals in 170 SHL games 30 goals in 116 Swedish Jr games He's never been a goal scorer at any level.
  14. Any insight as to how much influence the Sabres had in this decision?
  15. This makes a lotta sense to me. I'm pretty confident Mitts will get 20 because he can and he will get the opportunity. And somebody is going to take advantage of the ice time and the opportunity and surprise us. My money would be on R2, but it literally could be anyone.
  16. Skinner used to score, but he's scored 21 the past 2 seasons combined Kinda like Okposo with 11 in his past two combined, or Cody Eakin with 8 Beyond than those three, the next most prolific NHL scorer on the roster is Zemgus with 61 career goals Mittelstadt has 27 in his career. Olofsson has never really scored away from Jack R2 has 5 NHL goals Tage has 18 Bjork 19 Cozens 4 Rasmus Asplund has 8 and his career high in any league ever is 10 Hinostroza had 16 one year, 22 his other four years combined. Caggiula, with 44 goals in 260 NHL games might be the most successful finisher in the bunch. These guys could all hit career highs and we'd still be one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league.
  17. From the Sabres site: Kennedy most recently served as director for the Academy of Hockey, where he organized and led on-ice development sessions. Paetsch spent his last three seasons in a mentorship role with the Rochester Americans, seeing limited playing time while effectively serving as an extended member of the coaching staff. ...the Sabres believe they have added development coaches who can speak firsthand to the habits required to become an NHL player.
  18. Interesting how the Sabres hockey department is changing. MAY 2020 (36) Senior executives: 4 Botterill, Sexton, Greeley, Jakubowski Scouts: 20 AMATEUR: Jankowski (head amateur), Crisp, Banika, Cocker, Ferner, Fingal, Halpenny, Hansch, O'Connor, Pyette, Tiesling, Welin, Forton, Devine, Dunne, Musil, Riley PRO: Van Boxmeer, Beamish, Crowe Coaches: 11 BUF: Krueger, Smith, Granato, Bales, ROC: Taylor, Dineen, Peterson DEV: Komisarek, Barch, Mair, Kotyk Data analysts: 1 Nightingale AFTER THE TWO NEW ANALYTICS JOBS ARE FILLED (29) Senior executives: 3 Adams, Karmanos, Jakubowski Scouts: 8 Forton (head amateur), Crowe (head pro), Devine, Dunne, Musil, Forsberg, Beamish, Musser Coaches: 14 BUF: Granato, Bales, Christie, Ellis, Wilford, ROC: Appert, Weber, Peca DEV: Mair, Kennedy, Paetsch, Girardi, Ansell, Kotyk Data analysts: 4 Ventura, Nightingale, 2 more hirings TBA They've trimmed their scouting department by 12 bodies (and don't seem to differentiate between pro and amateur any more), but added three each to the coaching and analytics departments.

  20. Was he wearing his Denis Lemieux T-shirt?
  21. Honestly, I've been beaten down enough I'd probably take Krebs and Schneider and smile. But I'm very high on both.
  22. Agreed. The retention on Zibby is worth a lot, but he's a pending UFA. If they are reluctant to give up Krebs for 5 years of Eichel, tough to see them doing it for 1 year of Mika. Sorry Wookie, but I take that deal for the Sabres, even without the picks.
  23. Sabres are operating as if they think Casey can be a legit top 6 centre. Everybody thought that in 2018, nobody in 2020. He was definitely fun to watch to finish 2021; I finally started seeing the swagger I saw when he was a junior. He's one of the reasons I will be watching this year.
  24. Reliable, diligent, honest, not particularly fast but relentless, not physically imposing but fearless, intelligent, able to contribute both ends of the ice: Pommer, Ramsay and Seiling weren't the same player, but those words describe all three, and they describe Quinn too. What I was getting at with those comparables is that I could see Quinn settling in as any of those guys, given his skillset and approach to the game. He's got a spectrum of skills and it is unclear what NHL role they will develop into. He does have a great shot and he can finish. He could be a good goal scorer in the NHL. But Rick Martin isn't a great comparable because Rick lived to score goals but didn't do much to prevent them. Quinn doesn't have that defined identity. He doesn't cheat. He's out there on the last shift of a one-goal game up, or down. And he doesn't lurk, he creates for himself and his linemates. In Ottawa, he did pretty much everything at a high level — Marchand without the ***** factor. At the world juniors he was Ric Seiling. It will be very interesting to see what elements of his game translate as a pro, how well the Sabres can develop him, and how long will it take.
