I'd love to see the injury/fatality per arrest for female officers. My hypothesis is that the data will show that female cops are significantly better at bringing suspects to arrest without escalating violence. Maybe Pokemon has it right.

I'm just trying to say that we are under no obligation follow an officer's commands until we are under arrest. Best practice to do so? absolutely. Physical harm a suitable result should you choose not to? No way. I'd like to stay with this conversation, but you've now summarily dismissed two participants. Could you get me back on track?
-
that's where you go from 25% to 2.5%.
-
It's really, really important to this conversation to point out that Staten Island is not the US Army. I understand what you're saying, but in the civilian world we routinely have reason to NOT follow a police officer's instructions. Police officer comes to your door, says to let him in, you let him? no. US Marshall comes to your home and demands your guns, you hand them over? no. We're not require to do anything until we are placed under arrest. This might not apply hear, I don't know if the cop told him he was under arrest or not, but until that happens, you don't have to do anything.

that brings me back to the first part of my posts. prosecuting cops shouldn't fall on the DA. Too big a conflict of interest, regardless of the crime the cop committed.
-
if it's tough, why not let the jury hear the case? that's what I don't understand.
-
yes, his shooting % (17.4%) is way too high right now, that will come back down to earth (10-12%).

Engineers can be charged criminally for violating the rules of their profession indirectly resulting in a bridge collapse that kills people. Why not cops? I don't want to be in a position where the state can take my life. (I know it's unlikely that "I" personally will be in that position, but I'd like that unlikelihood to extend to everyone.)
-
I should clarify that I don't think what he did should rise to murder. But he violated his code of conduct in the professional execution of his job and a man wound up dead. For cops, that should be criminal subject to a jury's verdict. The indictment should be a ###### slam dunk.
-
If that person is a cop, I'm OK with that precedent. I'm willing to hold them to a higher standard, I actually think it will make it EASIER for them to do their jobs.
-
Chokeholds are against NYPD policy for a reason. This is that reason. He violated the rules of his job and a man ended up dead. Cops should never be prosecuted by other members of the Justice Department. There should ALWAYS be an independent structure to investigate the authorities. Making a DA prosecute a cop is bad for Justice and puts the DA in a terrible position. Which is it? And not for nothin', but respecting authority is the last thing being an American has ever stood for. We are THE nation of not respecting authority. In my opinion, it's the cops fault for violating NYPD policy, it's the guys fault for breaking the law in the first place and resisting arrest, but mostly it's the culture between minorities and the government in this country that causes the problem. It's the reason the guy resisted, it's the reason the Cop felt he could/needed to use excessive force. Hell, it's the reason the guy was selling loose cigarettes in the first place. And it all adds up to a self fulfilling prophecy.

I think you might be overestimating what it takes to be a top 50 goal scorer. Typical you're talking about 25 goals or there abouts to get in the top 50.
-
Zemgus is on pace for 27 goals if he doesn't improve over the course of the season (he will definitely improve). That will probably make him one of the top 12 goal scoring centers in the league. And we're projecting him as our #3. We're going to be just fine.

After a compromise reached earlier this month last month, they only cut the SSI (and it's SSI disability, not traditional Social Security) for accounts above $100k and exempted the accounts for Medicaid means testing with no cap. This might actually work. Debate in the house just finished up. Vote coming soon. Identical senate bill has also cleared committee.
-
So it looks like the congress is going to vote on this bill today...

can we rephrase? when you mean: "top 15 NHL goal scorers", don't say "first line talent". First line talent is the top 90 forwards. We've got plenty of guys with that potential. Especially Reinhart and Grigorenko.

I have been beating this drum for a while, and I don't want to press it too far, but Teddy has only proven to be a winner with other-worldly goaltending. He's getting that now. My suspicion is that Jhonas is not the second coming of the Dominator, so I am skeptical of it's sustainability. When the SV% drops back down to .905-.910, I expect more losses than wins.
-
First: Zemgus Girgensons. He's not a power guy who can score, he's a 6'1" Chris Drury. Totally Sustainable. Enroth is definitely the best goaltender ever to play the game. My two cents: I'm absolutely loving this, but i will be ok if it comes crashing down. I'm ok with 9th place if we're in the hunt. I just don't want to finish 20th in the league. If we stay within 3-4 games of 8th, keep the FAs and let the the kids experience the battle of a playoff push. If they're 4-5 games out at the deadline, sell everything, goalies included. Lastly: Deluca was right.

We have a problem with spousal abuse. The Russians have a humanitarian crisis.

I think it's been 3/4 since they made that switch.

I'm not sure who the Sabres was, but in my searching I learned that Amerk Great Jody Gage holds the record for the fastest two shorties in the AHL, 8 seconds apart on 3/25/89.

They would be in the Bastille Day Thread.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I'm a little surprised you haven't burst into flames.
