Lots of guys without NMC's. He may even need to overpay a bit. But the thing is with trading prospects, you don't really know if you're overpaying or underpaying. Not for a few years at least. Whereas with veterans it's much more of a sure thing relative to what you are getting. Again, I am not advocating trading away all the prospects or as a strategy in general. But when you have the #1 prospect pool and a ton of young talent on your NHL team, it's good to move some of those lottery tickets for proven commodities. Maybe the prospect pool moves to the 10-15 range next year. Who cares if they can add a Top 4 D and a middle 6 winger who are proven NHL players who contribute to a playoff squad.

It should be a great place for the Sabres to be relative to moving 2-4 of the top 12 or so in deals for actual NHL players. This is needed to augment the younger guys (Power, Benson, Cozens, Quinn, JPP, Krebs, R. Johnson) who appear to be NHL players but don't know the way to sustained excellence yet. Will Adams be willing to part with any of his precious prospects? Aside from Benson, and maybe Levi, these guys are all still more or less lottery tickets as opposed to sure things.

I don’t know what ‘deserved’ means in this context. I love Benson as a player. Glad he’s in the organization. i was just hoping for a playoff team, not a development opportunity for an 18 year old.

Tripping a guy in the offensive zone behind the net is inherently a bad penalty in my book. It was accidental for sure…because he’s not ready to play the NHL level of physical game yet. Which isn’t his fault it’s Adam’s because he was unwilling to sign a vet forward or two.

An example of Benson not being physically developed enough yet to hang in the NHL leading to a bad penalty.

I guess a first step towards more meaningful renovations is better than no steps.

Krebs is a perfect example why the ‘let it ride on prospects’ approach doesn’t work. You need some established players to augment whatever prospects actually make the cut. Krebs is just the next Tyson Jost.
