GDT: New Jersey at Buffalo. 3/20/2015 7:00 MSG
thewookie1 replied to Doohickie's topic in The Aud Club
Risto is a testament to how a young player should be allowed to develop. He got a taste of the NHL, was given vet leadership and goals to accomplish in the AHL, brought back near the season's end to get a status gauge. Then see if over the summer he embraces the NHL lifestyle or not, and in his case he certainly did. I just wish Zadorov would pick up some pointers from what Risto has learned over the past 2 years. Zadorov needs to be convinced that 40 games in the AHL next year paired with a vet D-man would be beneficial to him far more than the KHL. Poor Grigo may have been ****ed up thanks to Regier and Nolan- 139 replies

I'd say GMTM isn't saying as much that he desires lottery pick over the playoffs but rather is merely stating that he doubts the team going worst to great in a year. Remember all non playoff teams have a lottery pick, and he is kind of saying he doesn't mind a lottery pick seeing as the lottery exists.

Risto played 28+ min tonight. A respectable loss with Deslauire and Foligno playing their roles well.
-
Win 1 of 3 we are allowed will likely occur tonight. I just love raking the Leafs too much to care about the panzer for tonight. Destroy them Buffalo 12-1 Ennis with a hat-trick, Gionta with a hat-trick, Foligno, Risto, Zadorov, and Bogo have 1 goal a piece and lastly Moulson has a 2 goal game. Ennis and Moulson both finish the night with 7 points and when Ennis gets his hat-trick the Leafs throw jerseys on the ice. Gionta's hat-trick leaves many Leaf fans without shirts in general causing a small pandemic of influenza in the city and causing the stock market to drop 200pts on Friday.

Yup, Goathead really isn't anything great in a vacuum, but it makes you think of the very successful runs they had while wearing it. After all, the Game 6 Briere OT winner was the last time we had it in Buffalo. I've always wondered though, why wasn't it like this. Aside from visual balance what was that jutting out to the right of the head?

I'd go with a Blue & Gold version of the 99 jersey with the Bills standing Buffalo logo, in gold, on one shoulder and on the other the blue & gold version of the B You'd use a design similar to the one Neuvirth had on his mask Where there's red you switch it for gold black becomes blue white stays white

Cheap, maybe contractually but aside from that he's a highly effective bottom pair/7th D-man. He's a guy you can insert into your lineup with no doubt he'll work his *** off, is experienced, and will stand up for teammates. Is he a top 4 guy, no, but bottom pairings/ depth defense men tend to help decide who wins series late in the playoffs.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I've loved hockey since I was little and I'm 22 now, out of shape, and miss playing sports like I did prior to high school. I do have an ankle problem, it occasionally will just become extremely relaxed and I'll sorta roll my ankle for no reason, however I've always wanted to try hockey but always have been too afraid to go through with it. Any suggestions? Any of you ever get to play a game against or with a former pro?

Oh this would be awesome if Buffalo did this, The mere fact of the tryout contract would be worth the price of the immense pain you'll probably have during and after.

If Hughes walks I think the Bills need to go and immediately start the extend Dareus talks. If only to stop our fear of anyone we ever have that's good waltzing out the front door when they ask for money.

I think it really doesn't matter if we get McEichel, suddenly Buffalo gives him the chance to be a starter and he'll obviously know the team won't be trying to lose the next year. Moulson - McEichel - Kane Ennis - Reinhart - ??? Foligno - Girgs - Gionta Deslauriers/Larsson - McCormick - Kaleta Grigs (Can't figure out a way to use him effectively since he can't go on the 2nd line and I'd like Jagr/Ward but Grigs can go 3rd C and Girgs to 2nd RW) Bogosian - ??? (Ehrhoff maybe, once the youngsters grow into a top pairing these two can drop down. If Benoit can look so much better with Bogosian imagine Ehrhoff's boost) (Beauchemin and Martin would be good alternatives too) Risto - Zadorov Pysyk - Gorges Weber Niemi/Neuvirth/Jones- 164 replies

Probably a 2nd rounder + prior to deadline day, but how things went yesterday leaves me a tad confused as to what the market had set for a vet winger which varied immensely Tlusty - 2016 3rd-round pick, Cond. 2015 6th-round pick Baertschi - 2015 2nd-round pick Jagr - 2015 2nd-round pick, 2016 3rd-round pick Winnik - Sill, 2016 2nd-round pick, 2015 4th-round pick Glencross - 2015 2nd-round pick, 2015 3rd-round pick Fleischmann - Heatley, 2015 3rd-round pick Stempniak/Klingberg - traded for one another I'd of thought based on those trades that Stewart would have been at least been worth a 2nd in 2017 + something this year, maybe a 4th or so and Stafford would of been pretty similar in value. Granted its been said that Murray had intended to package Stewart and that in the 11th hour he was forced to go back Minnesota and just take whatever in a sense. Hence Stafford would of been worth about a 3rd in 2015/ 2nd in 2016 and a lesser pick in the other year. For instance 3rd in 2015 and 4th in 2016 or 2nd in 2016 and 4th in 2015 I just want to know how Winnik fetched so much. He's not that great, and Stewart matches up with him at very least statistically maybe even is better due to his scoring ability.
-
Ok I guess, I was a bit overly focused on the later parts. I agree 3 for 1 trades aren't going to help us at this point.
-
Then why only state Girgs, Risto, and Zad as a part of the future?
-
True Vets are 30+, because they typically are on the other side of their peak play. Aside from Gorges, you are naming experienced players but they aren't finished and washed up. I'd disagree, I think Ennis can be a very useful player going forward, he's put up 20 goals on terrible rosters so I'd assume he'd work well on a good team. Evander Kane isn't old by any measurement, and has the skill to be a 40 goal scorer Bogosian still can be a very effective D-man for many years
-
Next year will be alright for Buffalo if they get McEichel. A playoff team no, but if injuries don't plague us and we make a few key signings I can't imagine them being in the bottom five. Already one can guess that Arizona, Carolina, and Toronto will be near the bottom; along with the fact that the salary cap situation will likely create further parity in the league among the non-tanking teams. Based on the season we had this year thus far I can safely assume that next year we will do better solely because our defense will be better and we will likely have an actual first line.
-
This Trade Deadline sucked, we got mincemeat and I was at least hoping for Stewart to fetch something since so many others got over payed for. However Murray did accomplish what he had set out to do, help the team get to the bottom and stay there hopefully. Unlike some of you, I think Regier would have made a trade today, and he'd have likely gotten a 2nd & 3rd for Stewart but Regier wouldn't of traded anyone else due to the price being to low. GMTM doesn't seem to care about what it looks like on paper as long as he gets what he set out to gain, take it or leave it.

Erik Cole & conditional 3rd for 2 prospects and a 2nd from Detroit
-
I'd rather not risk the tank and get my hands on some more assets. Nothing is stopping us from resigning him this offseason
