  1. Let’s chill out in here please.
  2. OK, but this post was specifically about coronavirus. Let's try not to sling unrelated mud around so the thread doesn't get derailed please.
  3. I don't think I "fell" for anything. I simply disagreed with you and @Weave reflexively disregarding someone's analysis seemingly for the sole reason that it was posted on someone's blog and not on a more well-known/"official" outlet. While it's certainly possible that the post is full of holes, biased or otherwise unreliable, this shouldn't be the default assumption simply because it wasn't on XYZ "reputable" website. There is a ton of ill-considered and scientifically unsound crap that is published on those websites, and there is a ton of well-written and sound analysis that is published on smaller blogs like this one. If you want to wait for the CDC or other government outlet to give you the official word on something before coming to any conclusions, that is of course up to you. I certainly would not choose that approach. I would read a bunch of stuff and try to figure it out. As for the end of expertise, as I've said here many times, a group of distinguished SabreSpace posters would have done a better job running the team over the last decade than the "experts" who have held the jobs (and been paid millions of dollars to do so).
  4. Well, those articles may have been moved to different pages by the WHO and NEJM. In any case, the NEJM article s now here, and it says what the writer says it says: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2001191?query=featured_home I think this is the WHO article he was referring to (but it's long and I didn't read it): https://www.who.int/csr/sars/WHOconsensus.pdf?ua=1 I don't think he threw in those links in an attempt to mislead anyone. Well, right below "guest blogger", the name of the author is stated. And there are many, many blogs that include "donate" buttons -- not unlike how most newspaper/magazine sites include "subscribe now" buttons.
  5. What? The post is written in a pretty deliberative and scientific manner. There is a link to a WHO report in the 4th paragraph. There is also a link to a NEJM report in the paragraph immediately above the "Diamond Princess" section.
  6. Ooooooooooohhh. You got me. Now fixed, but it still hurts.
  7. Some things are as inevitable as the tide, including rumors that team X is going to part with coveted young player Y due to a cap crunch, thereby solving team Z's desperate need for a guy just like player Y. It never happens. What does happen is team X gives team N a pick or a prospect to take overpaid veteran player O, thereby alleviating team X's cap crunch and allowing team X to keep young player Y. That's what is going to happen with TB and Cirelli.
  8. Wow. I wonder if they'll send him to Rochester if he clears. I'd guess not, as it seems like there might be a bad attitude issue that they'd want to keep away from the kids, but it's not impossible. I hope someone picks him up and gives him a chance, but I'm skeptical.
  9. Did they interview him between periods? I missed him.
  10. I watched the Russian Five on a plane a few months ago -- it was great. Thanks for the streaming offer too!
  11. His recent Netflix special was excellent.
  12. Well, a move can be direct and decisive but still ill-conceived and disastrous -- kinda like the tank. And while it doesn't really matter anymore, it does kinda matter because there is a disturbingly high number of people who still think it was the right move, and who therefore would support doing it again.
  13. I recently learned that the way to cut brownies without tearing them up is by using a disposable plastic knife. (My daughter makes outstanding brownies and we will sometimes bring a plate over to someone's house.) Separately, if the Sabres get blown out at home by a crappy team again, JB might not last until the trade deadline. So that's exciting.
  14. Good post. I agree with a lot of this. I wouldn't say it was "precipitated" by the tank so much as I would say "primarily caused" by the tank, but certainly it's true that a lot of missteps have contributed to the current CF. And this is one of the major missteps, and one that I was particularly concerned about last summer. The Sabres were dying for strong goaltending, but JB opted to bring back the same 2 guys who weren't remotely good enough last year. As a team with limited offense that is struggling to break out of losing quicksand, they absolutely had to have much better goaltending. It really concerns me that JB didn't recognize that and fix it.
  15. OK -- Wawrow/PLF/GMTM conspiracy theory posts have been moved to the new PLF thread.
  16. It's not BS. It's what the idiotic decision to tank has led to. Good players want to leave and don't want to come to here in the first place. To wit: Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger Buffalo was on Zucker’s no trade list.
  17. I'd like to put the brakes on the "Wawrow is highly credible and thus there must be something to this tweet" assumption. Wawrow's occasional posts on this board have pretty often been weird and irrational -- which is of a piece, IMHO, with the theory that PLF hired TM with the goal of TM failing and PLF then taking over.
  18. After reading about the single shot approach, it sounds like they were actually quite a few cuts, so although the scenes were longer than normal, it wasn’t like a single two hour cut (although it was put together to look like essentially two very long scenes in the entire movie). In any case, it was beautifully done and the effect is quite compelling.
  19. I saw "1917" last night and thought it was excellent. Solid A.
  20. Marchand is a much, much better player than Reino. But I would be fine with giving Reino $7MM per year x 7 years.
  21. Dude. There is NFW that Reino is the sweetener to get someone to take KO. That's a draft pick, or a prospect, or taking the other team's bad contract. As others have said, Reino is only going to be traded, and should only be traded, as part of a package to bring back an indisputable star. I've noticed a discouraged petulance in Eichel's game lately. I'm sure he's PO'd about yet another season down the tubes, but still. The captain can't behave this way.
  22. I think RK really does not like Skinner.
  23. No. You absolutely are responsible for opening the door to freejame's response. It was completely foreseeable. This is going to be a contentious year in this country. The hysteria is going to be highly unpleasant. If it has to infect this board, it needs to be limited to the politics club. However, I agree that the "wrong" gif you posted (and similar ones) also belongs in the politics club. Nobody should push the envelope on this. If you want to make a political statement, make it where it belongs.
  24. Both of you need to keep this BS in the politics club.
