To me the question of trading Eichel and Reino comes down to whether it’s possible to win with 2 very important guys who don’t want to be here (which I believe to be the case at this point in time). KA needs to factor in the likelihood of Eichel and Reino changing their minds and buying in and weigh it against the likelihood of the lack of buy-in torpedoing yet another season and further setting the franchise back. In a sense Reino will make KA’s decision easier in that if Reino isn’t interested in a long-term deal, KA can safely assume that Reino isn’t going to buy in and KA will know that he needs to trade him. Of course, KA needs to actually offer a long-term deal to Reino to learn whether Reino is interested, but I’m sure KA knows that. Eichel is a trickier matter, as he is a more precious asset and under team control AND has the huge uncertainty of his injury complicating matters. So while Reino will kinda make KA’s decision for him, it’s quite possible that even if Eichel pushes to be traded, no one makes an acceptable offer for him because of the injury. Best case scenario is that Reino signs a long term deal, the Sabres bring in a credible coach and goalie and make a few other credible moves, Jack recovers, likes the Sabres’ moves and returns determined to lift the team, and the youngsters continue to improve. That’s a lot of fairly unlikely dominoes falling the Sabres’ way.

Holy mackerel the atmosphere in Nashville looks incredible.

I remain skeptical that another team will part with premium assets before seeing Eichel back 100% from his injury.

PSE Begins Discussions on Future of the Stadium and Arena Projects

A tunnel is an interesting idea, but I can't imagine it happening, mostly because the overland route is only another hour's drive. The chunnel had no driving alternative at all, let alone a short-drive alternative. -

The drive from NYC to Toronto is freaking awful. 7-8 hrs to the border, then the border wait, then the traffic between the border and Toronto -- I'm never doing it again. But 6 hrs to the ferry terminal, then getting out of the car and having a beer on a high-speed ferry with fresh air on the lake, maybe some duty-free shopping and expedited customs/immigration -- that sounded like a huge improvement. -

Did you ever take that fast ferry? As someone who travels periodically from NYC to Toronto, it would’ve been perfect for my family and me. -

There is no way that NYS is going to contribute $750MM to a new football stadium. -
My recollection is that Darcy said the extent of the rebuild would be up to the owner — ie that the owner ultimately had to sign off on the plan — not that the owner would develop a plan and instruct Darcy to implement it. The actual words matter. You can’t just change a few of them and take the changed quote as evidence in your trial. And I do like you. You’ve got flaws, just like me and everyone else here, but you have a good sense of humor and more importantly you seem like a good, charitable person. I’ll see what I can come up with on the other owners. It won’t be as comprehensive as dudacek’s work, of course.

If something is "painstakingly put together" out of hot air, conjecture, fear and loathing, does that make it real? My recollection is that the Ehrhoff "evidence" was your interpretation of one of TP's daughter's tweets. As for the Leino, Ehrhoff and tank "decisions" -- as I and others have said many times, there's a world of difference between authorizing a GM to take the GM's recommended course of action, and instructing the GM to pursue a certain course of action. I don't think you've introduced, painstakingly or otherwise, a shred of evidence to support your heartfelt position that TP instructed DR to implement those courses of action. And of course, pretty much every owner speaks regularly with his GM, sits in the war room, etc.

Has McD made noises about wanting out? I haven't heard anything along those lines. Even if Edmonton felt like they had to trade him, I think there is no way they would take Eichel as the main piece coming back until they saw Jack fully recovered and playing NHL games at his 2019-2020 MVP candidate level.

More plausible (IMHO) descriptions of the facts: Pushed to sign Ville Leino and Christian Ehrhoff OR: Told Darcy he could sign whoever he wanted, without concern as to cost Instigated the tank OR: Approved Darcy's recommendation to implement the tank OKed the Ryan Miller trade behind Pat Lafontaine’s back OR: Told PLF that GMTM, as GM, had final say on roster decisions, including that one. Overruled Botterill on the Eichel contract OR: Joined the negotiations when JB and JE had reached a stalemate and got a deal done. Vetoed any attempt to re-sign Kane OR: Agreed with JB's decision not to re-sign Kane, based on JB's determination that Kane was part of the problem in the room Insisted O’Reilly be traded prior to the bonus OR: Agreed with JB's decision to trade ROR, , based on JB's determination that ROR was part of the problem in the room, and required that ROR be traded before the bonus was triggered Steered the signing of Phil Housley OR: Approved JB's choice of Housley Resisted acquiring Russians, feeding the Nylander over Sergachev decision OR: Sat in the war room on draft day but did not push for any particular player Overruled Botterill on the Skinner deal OR: Approved the contract once JB negotiated it Instigated the signings of Brett Murray and Brandon Biro because of their Penn State connections. OR: Forwarded an email to JB from the PSU coach about these 2 guys, asking JB whether he knew anything about them but leaving any decision on them entirely up to JB Ordered Botterill to gut the hockey department and fired him when he refused Guilty as charged Ordered Adams to give Girgensons what it took to get him re-signed. OR: Approved the contract once KA negotiated it Pushed for Quinn because “52 goals” OR: Sat in the war room on draft day but did not push for any particular player

Well, @kas23 can certainly speak for himself, but I think his point was that even the NIH, which is largely made up of healthcare professionals, has only a 65% vaccination rate -- so regardless of the reason, it seems pretty clear that there is a real portion of the population that is reticent to take the vaccine.
-
Be well @spndnchz. We’ll keep a good thought for you.

But what kind of average would be relevant here? i.e. if the question is how many people have been vaccinated in a given place, what average would matter? No -- it's pretty close and I'm glad that NYC has closed the gap relative to a couple of weeks ago. My point was just that I was surprised that mask compliance on the subway was essentially 100% since NYC isn't especially high in vaccination rate.

National total — 60.8%of adults have received at least 1 dose — https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations NYC — 60% — https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-data-vaccines.page

And how does one reconcile these reasonable statements with calling them "rich scumbags who rape the earth?" Well, he was 9-19 as a HC -- so he won less than 1/3 of his games. That's not the kinda record that has teams knocking on your door.
-
So, now that I'm vaccinated, I've started going back in to my office, which I'm very happy about, as I do not particularly enjoy working from home. This means taking the NYC subway again, which I didn't do at all for about 14 months. I can report that just about 100% of everyone on the subway trains I've been on has been wearing a mask. Moreover, I've only seen one person not wearing it correctly (i.e. below the nose) -- everyone else is fully mask-compliant. I find this pretty interesting, as vaccination rates in NYC are below the national average. I'll be curious to see whether it lasts. Separately, the Nets are selling some of the nosebleed seats for next week's playoff games at 50% off for those with proof of vaccination.

Now that is an interesting and positive development. Interviewing BB and Tocchet indicates that they are going to do a professional and thorough search.

Correct and thanks. @Eleven -- did you check out nbc sports (or peacock, or whatever big media company includes nbc) streaming options?

The baked mac and cheese is a fantastic side dish with any kind of meat. We like it with ribs or pork shoulder from the smoker but it's also really good with steak, burgers, etc. One important point is to bake until it's nice and brown on top (but not black, of course). 30 min is about right, but you should check the coloring and leave it in until it browns. You need those crispy edges.

Me too. BTW, I just learned last night that his brother is the GM of the Miami Dolphins

Baked Mac and cheese. cook one box of macaroni, penne or whatever pasta you like and drain. Melt a stick of butter in a medium pot. Once melted, stir in a half cup of flour. In a separate pot, heat up 3 cups of whole milk, or 2 cups of 1% plus 1 cup of cream, on medium-high heat, stirring periodically until it foams up. Once that happens, stir it into the butter/flour mixture on medium-low heat. Then, stir in 2 bags of shredded cheese. Salt to taste. It should be a melted cheesy lava at this point. grease a baking dish with a little butter or cooking spray. Put a thin layer of the cheese lava on the bottom of the baking dish, then combine the cooked pasta with the rest of the lava in the baking dish and stir until everything is evenly distributed. sprinkle a thick layer of grated Parmesan on top. Make sure you get the edges with a lot of Parmesan. bake at 325 for 30 min.

I think there is a distinct possibility that Dolan, owner of the Rangers, continues his recent Svengali behavior and orders Drury to pay whatever it takes to get Eichel. That might be the best path to a bountiful return for the Sabres if they decide to trade him.

I agree that it shouldn't be needed, but it will probably be pretty effective.
