1. Tampa - this is by far the cream of the crop. Good climate, taxes, fan base - class organization. I could only hope they would want to sign me! 2. Carolina - Good climate, fan base - committed and savvy organization. 3. Dallas - Good climate, decent fan base that has good passion making up for lack of knowledge (although it is better than it was 20 years ago), taxes - good organization committed to winning. 4. St. Louis - great fan base, climate, committed organization, tax rate is solid 5. Colorado - good fan base, interesting climate, beautiful region, outside of sales tax - not to shabby. Organization is committed I am surprised how easy this top 5 was for me...I would have loved to put Florida on here - but I lived in Ft. Lauderdale years ago - and I know how bad the fan base can be. Hockey is a lonely world when they are not on top.

One of the coolest threads I have seen here! 1. Winnipeg - region and taxes, no thanks 2. Calgary - see above 3. Edmonton - see above 4. Toronto - taxes and fish bowl environment - and not a positive fish bowl either. Demanding is good - but is cartoonish demanding. side note: As a player, I would probably have all Canadian teams off my radar due to their tax structure - but Vancouver and Montreal are cities that have some character (Ottawa, I suppose I could handle it), and could see myself playing in all three of those places over #5.... 5. Arizona - No long-term vision for team or market. That kind of uncertainty would make me uncomfortable - and give me the feels that I am playing for no other reason than money.

According to Pierre Lebrun, Sabres have interest in Brett Pesce.

I always perceived Carolina as rather shrewd - 50% retained, Joker and a conditional 2nd in 2024 (becoming a 1st if he signs). Really can't see them moving him without getting a cost controlled D in return. If I am KA, I can only do that if I think Stillman or Johnson are ready/able to play 15 minutes a night. -
Come everyday and lurk. Just don't need to post every thought I have for everyone to hear. Every once in awhile, I feel compelled. Congrats, you compelled me with your genius.

Looks like you Jimmy Cracked Corned me there. Brilliant assessment as always, Eleven.

You are making the assumption the 13 gets either of those players. Or...maybe it can get them, but they won't commit to signing long-term. If that is the case...and it could very well be - Michkov would be an awesome get. BPA. This ain't the NFL.

100% this. If you build your pipeline well enough - you can move higher priced vets to create room. Or if you hit the boom like Chicago did and win the cup. Tear it down! But if your team is playoff ready, combined with playoff advance ready...5 years is not a concern. -
Top 30 or 50 would indicate he is a first line pairing on most NHL teams...not sure I am willing to bet that myself yet.
-
For me, just not ready to give him 8 million a year at this point as he is not an 8 million dollar player. No guarantee he turns out to be that valuable - I would rather he prove it - and if it costs us 10 million later...and that is a big if even if he becomes an all star... then we can deal with the price.
-
I am shocked how many people are good with signing him at over 8 million a year. Heck, Dahlin only got 3 years at 6 million per - and he had some really nice offensive seasons in his pocket. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when he gets a 3 year, 5 to 5.5 million a year contract.

If there was an option for: Yes, with extension - that is the option I would have selected. No otherwise. Not uncommon for goalies to play their prime years between 30-34. My lord, Tim Thomas didn't start playing until he was 30. Hasek? Age is not the concern. The amount of money is the only concern - but if you pay him - you really do not have to invest heavily into defense beyond Power and Dahlin. You can live with guys like Joker and Stillman filling out your bottom 3. Or even get aging D vets that make few mistakes and move the puck well out of the zone - but not contributing a whole lot else. I do not recall the sabres of the 2000's rolling out high octane defensive players. They had Miller - a goalie that allowed them to play aggressive offensively. Love Levi - but he is extremely unproven. Give Connor for the next 5-7 years - they will make a cup run with the offense they have.

Sounds like a leader if you ask me. I am really happy with this - and looking forward to him being captain again. Great share!

Is Jeff Skinner on a Hall of Fame trajectory?
oddoublee replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I would make one small correction to this - Roenick's big mouth (I would classify as outspoken) coupled with him being an American is what is holding him back. There is zero reason for him not to be in the Hall of Fame. It is pure silliness. -
half serious - half jest - but i wonder if the players feel a little bit bad ass when they put on the devil goat darth vader uniforms?
-
more proof that we need more goathead

it is a bit shortsighted though, imo. 20 million not used has other implications. if they spent 5 of it - does it mean it costs them 5 for the next year and year after? multi year contracts do that - so the question is incomplete and missing context. i see it as 20 million they can use on upgrading scouting and coaching staff, ahl, office staffing, etc... or money for the yacht.

I just finished watching - and got the same vibe. Used a key word as well - we think he is a good 'prospect'. If I had to guess, they had no intention of letting him play NHL minutes this year - and they want him in the AHL for one year minimum. If he can find a team with less depth - or has a philosophy of growing players in the NHL - then he is going to gravitate there. But seemed clear - Adams does not have strong conviction that he is NHL ready in 23-34.
-
Agreed - plus, the team should have cap room to sign a 4D as well - so maybe can get one without giving up assets. Lot's of ways we can get a 4D without moving CM.
-
So glad someone finally said this - the 3C thing does not apply as he is clearly a top 6 forward. Maybe everyone fell in love with the Cozen, Quinn & Peterka line so they pigeon holed him - but truth is - Casey is ahead of both Quinn and Peterka (although I believe Quinn has a good chance of passing him next year, or the year after). With Kulich being most likely 2-4 years away - Savoie being 2-4 years away - and Peterka looking more like a middle 6 player...signing Casey should be a priority. 4 years at 4.5 is a no brainer. If he is willing to six years...with cap increases - I wouldn't be upset with 5.5-6 million for him. 60 point forwards that can play C & W and line slide are very very valuable to have...and his teammates love him.

What is overall grade for the season? B Fun, Competitive, Likeable (A's are for playoff teams!) What grade would you give Adams and Granato (including his staff)? B Well done overall. Like to see Granato in game coaching step; especially with line matching - we were spoiled by Ruff. Adams was good - this summer is key to telling us what kind of long-term GM he really is. Top 4 D - Good Goalie - PK specialist F/C. What grade would you give the Forwards, the Defense and the Goaltenders? A- Forwards C Defense (Dahlin, Powers and Samuelsson saved this one from being a D- or F) D I believe the D made them look worse than they are...but results are results - and statistically they were below average. What grade would you give the Power Play and the Penalty Kill? B PP was mostly good, not dominant D- Not a good PK...at all. Candidly, I do not know if it is players or coaching...but they are not close to being lockdown yet. Who is your MVP? Tage Thompson - doesn't get hurt, we are looking at 100+ points. This team lived off of his line most of the season. Who is your ROY? Owen Power - not even close. We are looking at a 60-80 point defenseman who can also shut people down in his own end within 2 - 3 years. Who is your MIP (most improved player)? Dylan Cozens - went from a 13 goal, half point player to a probable 30 goal, point a game player within a snapping of the finger. Who is your unsung hero? Casey Mittlestadt - I always thought he was good, and saw him as a .5 to .7 point a game player. That is pretty good in the NHL. But since a lot (not all) really want to see him shipped out - I have to give him the award. Otherwise, I would say Girgs. Dude comes to play every night; Stone hands and all.

Should Adams bring in a starter and make Levi the backup in 23/24?
oddoublee replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Team has too much talent offensively - and a solid 2nd pairing Dman and Depth 3rd pairing Dman from making 100 point noise next year. Not wanting to bank on a kid that has never had a full season grind of the NHL. I would love if they brought in a Goalie that makes Levi fight for even 40 games next year - and winner take all the following year. Goalie prospects, especially 21 year old goalie prospects, are not guarantee. -
I agree with your thoughts regarding learning curve of a full season being a very real thing the team needs to contend with. A full season grind in major league sports is no joke - between playing against the elite night in and night out - extensive travel - media obligations - and newfound money & freedom - it is a lot to take on. All that said, I would take what you said one step further...I bring in a vet that has an expectation of playing 40 - if not 50 games next year. Levi plays between 25-35 next year - and 35-40 the following year - before taking over as a full time starter. He is young for a goalie, and a very heady individual. From all accounts I have read - this dude is a creature of habit - and it is hard to stay insulated in the NHL. It will take time. Just not ready to throw this kid in for a 50+ game workload next year...IMO

i am sorry. you are not into self deprecation - i will be more careful.
