Trey Lance is a couple years of good coaching away from being an NFL QB. There was a tweet recently from some talking head that pointed out that over his entire career, from HS to college, to the NFL, he has only 588 snaps at the position. Perhaps the most inexperienced QB to ever enter the league.

I'm aware.  And yet the Bills still don't have a #2 on the roster.  Perhaps he will emerge as other teams squeeze out other players.

(Yes, it was deliberate.  That one, too.)

No tapes of Rick doing TV the first time? That would be sad.

I could very well be wrong here, but unless it was a momentous game, like a 10-1 beating of the Bruins or a playoff game or something, I'd bet not.  It's just not what we used to do.  Even now, the Internet Archive strains to recover "old" software from the 1990s.

EDIT:  You know you really could help with this question is @PromoTheRobot so I am summoning.

Before it's all lost to history, someone needs to really do that Wiki page right. Heck with Paul and Rick gone, maybe it's already gone. There must be archives of this stuff at the Sabres tho.

Don't count on it.  It's only very recently that we as a culture have started to save everything.

Good.  It's large enough as it is.  And it's the least of the problems.

It was pretty awesome when the scoreboards were in the corners and you could see clear across the arena.

Had drinks with him at a bar once, with Rico when he was alive, what fun. Nice people.

I've described my experience having drinks with Rick Martin before.  Apparently I'm the only person he wasn't nice to!  Maybe I look like a jerk or maybe I was one (but that's not normally my thing) or maybe he just wanted a quiet few to himself.

Gil, I never had drinks with.  My only experiences with him are at the nave of the church, when I was a child, as above or elsewhere.  Again, kind head-par and shush.

The interactions as adults have been far more revealing.  Chris Simon, for example, was a complete jerk.  Don Luce, the opposite.  It just depends on the person.

Here's the google translation of the obituary:

I hate to say it, and I hope I'm just misinterpreting the translation, but based on this it looks like Gilbert and Carmen lost a child at some point.  Awful.

RIP Carmen and God bless her family.

I can read some French and you are correct.

What?  Why should the franchise move on from one of its iconic people?  It's like saying we should forget about Hasek and the French Connection.  The hype video isn't for it's for getting the fan at the game up for the game.  At UGA  the Munson soundtrack is a general one with the video people creating a highlight package of GA players dominating that week's opponents over the years.  It's called "the Battle Hymn of the Bulldog Nation"  and this is followed by "it's Saturday in Athens."

While the Sabres have plenty of sound bites of RJ's great calls, I don't know if they have something like the Larry Munson recording UGA uses.

Honestly, there are only two posters who give a ***** about UGA.  Probably fewer than a dozen who care about pro college sports.

What's really amazing is Montreal's defense, and I'm not kidding.  They went from four behind Gil (one on the ice and one tied up by check) to three in his way in like two or three seconds.  THAT IS DEFENSE.

I am amused by how little reliable information is out there on the origins of Hasek's nickname.

This is likely because it wasn't exactly a difficult nickname to come up with.  It was as natural as calling cocaine "coke" or calling LeBron James "King."  How can there even be an originator?  It's like right there in front of everyone, like a bad softball pitch to a batter with a fat stick.

Similar lower-key acquisitions like Jochen Hecht

Probably unpopular opinion:  The Sabres wouldn't have won the division in 2010 and wouldn't have made the playoffs in 2011 without Hecht.
