  1. Obviously, this will not go down in Sabres history as a good game, and equally obviously, Noronen needed more conditioning before starting tonight. It's ok, if that's where it ends; a loss is a loss, and it's an 82 game season. But the Sabres sometimes fold for a while after a bad beating, and that's what I really worry about.

  2. well the nhl still has to show that its screwed up somehow...

    regulation win--2 points

    overtime win--2 points

    regulation loss--0 points

    overtime loss--0 points

    shootout win--2 points

    shootout loss--1 point

    it makes sense.

Oh oh oh--maybe I'm wrong--forgot about the new system. So no points for les habitants after all, then?

AFTER EDIT: I again think the OT gives a point, actually, after looking at nhl.com

  3. There are more Habs fans because the game is being played in MONTREAL!

The Canadiens are wearing their alternate jerseys. (white with blue stripe) That's why the Sabres are wearing black.

    PTR

Other context clues include the 2 giant Cs at center ice, the Coupe Stanley banners hanging from the rafters, the Canadian advertisements around the boards, and the fact that Montreal is listed second on the score line.

And Drury ties it--to a bunch of boos. That's the most exciting clue of all.

  4. Hey, if Montreal can wear white at home (I know it's their third jersey, but the new policy is based on colored third jerseys), why can't the Sabres? I like white at home--reminds me of Jets and Nords fans with their seas of white, and of hockey the way it was.

  5.

    I strongly recommend:

    1. Tivo. It's the best TV innovation since the satellite dish. It's also pretty cheap. It will record all of the games for you automatically. You can also start watching the game an hour late (or whenever you please) and zip through the commercials and intermissions.

    2. If you use microsoft outlook -- you can download the sabres' schedule from their official website right into your outlook calendar.

    Hope that helps.

    Nah, but thanks.

    (1) No more products with monthly fees. If I buy the machine, that's it.

    (2) The sked only helps if I'm smart enough to look at it! Not today.

  6. To me, it looks like teams have started to lock down on him on that left point.  When he's on the right point, he's not as effective, but they're hoping that he'll still draw the attention, opening up someone else.

Exactly what happened on that first goal tonight. The Sabres kept it in that zone--tiring themselves, surely, but tiring the 4-man defense even more. As the two mins. drew to a close, it was Campbell's, not Kotalik's, slapper that found its way to DiPietro and eventually to Drury.

Would not have happened without both superior puck control and the Isles' concentration on Kotalik. It was a great example of what happens with constant pressure in the defending team's end (as was the Isles' first goal), and I hope the Sabres remember and duplicate it.

  7. Well, back to the asskicking. Thing is, the way the Sabres are playing, they'd survive against the Islanders or some team like that. The Sens are that damned good. And memo to the NHL: Please suspend Havlat for 6 games next time, even if it requires a face-to-face meeting. We'd appreciate it here in Buffalo.

  8. You didn't think Miller played well? To my eyes, he saved more than one Sabres' arse with strong goaltending.

Absolutely right--Miller won that game. Another "facet" worth mentioning: discipline. Two penalties--one for too many men (yet again)--was good in the "old" NHL; in the "new" NHL, it's nearly impossible. Sometimes the way to win is to not make mistakes, and the Sabres did that tonight.
