  1. Refresh my memory, please. Didn't Tallinder file for arbitration at the end of last season, only to see Darcy ante up to avoid the arbiter? Whatever the case, this was a good deal all around!!!

I don't think so--and I'll let Dave B, who knows the CBA as if he had written it, have the word on this, but--(1) Tallinder wasn't eligible for arbitration, and (2) even if he had been, once a player files for arb, negotiations are off.

I may very well be wrong on the second point.

  2. Nice going Cole you %////#&, who broke your neck last year? I'd like to shake his hand right now!

That hit hasn't been discussed enough, IMO. That was as disgusting as Orpik on Cole, and even more so, considering Cole's views last year on hits like that.

I heard on WGR earlier that the reason for the distinction is because a player (cannot remember the name) born in Europe and moved to Canada at age eight has more games.

Stan Mikita. (Oops, Niagara beat me to it.)

I hope we *** play them in the playoffs this year just to pound their *** faces.

The Sabres won't play the NASCanes in the playoffs because the 'Canes won't make it. Unless Jeff Gordon learns to skate or something.

  3. Wow. 3 straight OT wins.

Not happy with how they won, but I'll take the points.

Gotta bury a team like the Flyers. Still, this team does not quit. That is something to be very proud of.

I'm not happy with the third period, but if it weren't for some amazing goaltending by Nittymaki in the first and second, it would have been a blowout. Imagine Esche facing some of those early shots!

  4. Anybody else in the Buffalo area not see the Sabres game scheduled on MSG at 7? I'm seeing Knicks stuff and am just worried we're going to have a repeat of last night when the game wasn't on bc somebody at Time Warner forgot to flip the switch

Buffalo News lists it on MSG at 7pm; hopefully TW or MSG or whichever was responsible last night has instructed its employees to actually show the whole game.

  5.

    * Is it me or did Jokinnen interfere with Briere on the Panthers 4th goal, giving Montador an open shooting lane?

It's NOT you. Frankly, I thought the boarding call late in the third was a makeup for missing that. Horrible non-call; Joke definitely got away with one there. Happens, though.

With a midnight deadline nearing to either pick up Dominik Hasek's option of $9 million, trade him or let him become an unrestricted free agent, a vigil of sorts begins on the predecessor to this message board, at the time the only such forum in cyberspace. Hundreds log on and off throughout the day to learn the fate of The Dominator. What the fans don't know is that his fate is sealed. The goaltender had traveled to Coudersport, PA, after the season to meet with owner John Rigas to request a trade, and Rigas had agreed. Midnight comes. There is no news.

    Hasek for Biatch-y-slav Kozlov. Ugh.

  7. On the 11th day of the month, after earning the right to pick first in the amateur draft on this day with a winning spin that stopped on 11, the Sabres draft number 11 of the Montreal Junior Canadiens, Gilbert Perreault, a phenom center who has been compared to a young Jean Beliveau. After that, the Sabres take Butch Deadmarsh, Steve Cuddie, Randy Wyrozub, Mike Morton, Tim Keeler, Tim Regan, Doug Rombough and Luc Nadeau. So, after the waiver, expansion and amateur drafts, and some wheeling and dealing by Punch Imlach, we have ourselves a hockey team. The coach and GM looks at veteran goaltender and former Conn Smythe winner Roger Crozier, and Perreault, and others, and likes what he sees, vowing that the Sabres will be the first expansion team to win a Stanley Cup.

Well, out of that expansion class, we're still in the run, right?

It was a hell of an expansion assembly. It's still a hell of a team.

  8. yup, i said out loud to my wife "that's elcrusho's cup"

She was like "what the hell is elcrusho"

    I was like "nevermind"

Then i stripped to my underware and started running around the cul de sac

I think elcrusho made the jumbotron too, during some "kiss cam" time that at least gave us a break from the Why Guy.

  9. We beat ourselves tonight. Period. They had two lucky goals and we couldn't score on our PPs.

The Sabres couldn't score on the powerplay because for once, Filly defended it well. They played strong and not stupid; they cleared rather than taking a second penalty. It's ok to admit that the other team had the Sabres' number, and tonight, I'm admitting it. Sabs in 5.

The Flyers beat the Sabres 3-1 in Philly to avoid elimination and send the series back to Buffalo for Game 6.

And then, the Snowman appeared. Little-seen in the regular season, much less the playoffs, the lil' guy has a large round belly topped with a somewhat smaller, featureless head. No arms, no legs, no face. His opponent: the Void. The Snowman always wins that battle against the Void, and always by the same score.

Let the Snowman be with us again.

  11. Damn PA... if we could only squeak out a victory in the first round? Maybe one or two games to make it interesting. 10 straight seasons without advancing. It will be 11 soon. Guys like May, Bodger, and Ledyard simply cannot get it done. I just hope we don't end up playing the bruins. Moog and the boys really have our number.

It's because the Knoxes won't give us the tools to get the job done. Muckler is the worst GM in sports. What was that trade last August? A draft pick for some Czech goalie? Yeah, like THAT guy's going to be useful someday.

The Sabres sweat out a 1-1 tie in Washington to secure a playoff berth on the final day of the regular season. Stu Barnes breaks a scoreless tie in the third period, roofing one over Olaf Kolzig, but the Capitals tie it after Richard Zednik takes the puck from rookie Maxim Afinogenov and beats Dominik Hasek on a long, fluky shot. The stars of the day are the Buffalo defense, which allows Washington just 14 shots on goal in regulation, and a piece of gum that Lindy Ruff says he "beat the crap out of" during the tense affair.

I was at that one. The five or six Crapitals fans in attendance were confused why we were counting down a clock in regulation with a 1-1 tie, and why we cheered when it hit 0:00.

  13. i missed the game as i was watching my beloved badgers win another ncaa championship, but what a nice surprise. i refused to watch the ticker reporting the scores because i didn't want to be upset about the sabres during the uw game.

Lucky, lucky Badgers during those last 10 seconds but congrats!

  14. Well, Lindy's in a pickle now. How can he not reward Biron with another start on Wednesday? But if he does, and Biron is great again, you have a serious goaltender controversy. Is that a bad thing though?

Terrible penalty by Hecht in the third period, leading to the winning goal. Tucker made him look like a fool.

I just don't know what to make of this team. Take away a near-spectacular performance by Marty, and we're ripping these guys to shreds again. Yet, I see them dominate for minutes on end. It's as if they can be as good as they want to be. What's stopping them?

I'm not sure a controversy is a bad thing. Miller seems to be motivated by it; he got hot when coming in after Marty's streak and when snubbed by Team America. Sooner or later an athlete has to find that motivation from within--but Miller's still a rookie. Maybe watching a few games will fire him up in the event he's needed later. I'd stick with Biron for Wednesday night.
