  1. And here you go doing the same thing your complaining about everyone else doing, making stuff up or using rumors to make your theory. He had a history of being dificult?

Also he didn't throw any "public snit", he just resigned from his position. He didn't run to the media to make announcements or anything. Also, if what some here believe is true, who cares if he did it now or in a few weeks or the summer, he isn't the GM or making player moves, so it shouldn't disrupt the team from doing anything. Its not like Murray has to stop what he is doing to handle all of this, or PLF was in the process of making deals then quit. TP, Black and the other head guys are the ones that should be handling it.

PLF stopped reporting to work. That was his way of showing everyone he was p.o'd. Then he resigns in the middle of trade deadline. The guy couldn't wait a week or two? The fact he did this while Murray was trying to swing deals is bad form, whether he was involved or not. You don't make a scene in your workplace.

And his history is full of examples of him pitching tantrums since he was a player. I'm not making anything up. There is not a single "what if.." in my story.

  2. There are rumblings that Battista and Black's involvement in hockey related decisions directly lead to PLF quitting.

And the Vinz tweet is supposed to be a smoking gun?

There very well may have been friction between PLF and "Pegula's people" but those pushing that line assume that PLF was some kind of saint or someone who is a proven builder of franchises. He was neither. If anything Pat has a history of being difficult. And the fact that he threw such a public snit at a critical moment like trade deadline shows an appalling lack of professionalism. Funny how Bucky misses that. No matter how bad it might have been, you don't show up your team.

  3. What Battista was doing could be at the heart of why LaFontaine left. Could. That's the importance of these little clues. Why did Pegula hire him in the first place? Was he lurking around LaFontaine as Pegula's eyes and ears? (He did accompany LaFontaine on a trip to interview GMs.) Running around notifying Nolan, telling Vinz he was playing and claiming he "signed" him, potentially exaggerating his title in an email, they're just some wafts of smoke. We're all trying to piece things together.

You are just inventing stuff now. Please stop....or get a job at the News.

  4. GREAT column by Bucky this morning:

I am sure the "blame-the-media" crowd will be out with their long knives as usual...for whatever reasons they can dredge up. But sorry, the guy's opinions are legit because (despite what others have intimated in this thread), he DOES have sources and connections, and he DOES know what's going on better than the frequent visitors of an internet message board. His opinions are only opinions, but they are better informed than 99.9% of fans. That s a fact.

Takes the Vinz tweet and turns it into an act of insurrection. <_<. Puh-leeze. Gleason is more interested into stoking flames than reporting news.

  5. "Disgraceful, you are better than this"?...who anointed you lord and master of the moral high ground? You sound like the Seattle City Council, who took it upon themselves to ban the words "brown bag", as in brown bag lunch, from the local lexicon because the PC blockheads, in their we-know-better-than-you omniscience, decided the term was racially disparaging.

You do realize the Daily Caller is like The Onion, so you are being sarcastic, right?

  6. I'm missing something here.

30 minutes since the last PLF post. 30 MINUTES!!

don't really think Shoalts writing about the goings on of the Buffalo Sabres read as breathlessly in Toronto, nation, (globe a national paper) as it is in Buffalo. This article hardly bent to the sensational to sell newspapers. It simply a reporter doing his job. Not a surprise some would jump to trash him... many of you have really reached a number of lows thus far, siting mental problems, drinking, cte, ect as to why Pat Lafontaine would have resigned. Disgraceful, you are better than this . Nature of forums is to have opinion, to agree , to disagree , but lows have been met here. imo

In a vacuum of facts opinions made from whole cloth will emerge. When people have nothing to go on except reports from people with agendas, what do you expect? How are we supposed to know who's at fault here?

  7. Will you and others please stop the ridiculous suggestions that the entire world of sports media is reading this site? First of all, there are other Sabres boards.

    Name one.

All of these respected hockey voices are wrong? They're all making up ######? Shoalts is a serious guy who's been around a long time and almost certainly has good sources.

    Like Bucky Gleason?

  8. Hoo boy. This from a TO hockey writer:

After talking to a number of people close to LaFontaine and others in the Sabres organization, it is clear the situation is the result of a toxic mix of an owner who is too much of a fan for his team’s good, who surrounded himself with a surplus of advisers whose motives must be questioned, and a former NHLer who needed neither the job nor the salary, nor the headaches of dealing with a fan-boy owner and his cronies.

    http://www.theglobea...hboard/follows/

That's a lot of setup with no payoff. If things are that toxic, what issue sent PLF for the exits? The Miller/Ott trade? If he had that much of a disagreement with Murray on that matter why wasn't it discussed BEFORE he hired him as GM, considering that topic was was simmering even before Murray was brought in. Was it telling Ott and Miller to get off the ice? Telling VInz to suit up?

Why would the Sabres have to negotiate a deal for the remainder of his contract with them AND have him sign a Confidentiality agreement if it is to protect Lafontaine?

Agreements go both ways, don't they?

  9. Okay, here's an example: cause: PLF has a drinking or drug dependency problem. That would go farther to explain everything we know than an internal rift would (but admittedly not by much).

Be advised, I don't think this is the issue, I just present it as a way of trying to help tie together the "facts" of the matter.

Or how about struggling with CTE?

  10. I'm wondering if they had any talks with any of the unrestricted free agents. To me I'm sure some of this might have led to LaFontaine wanting to resign. You want players to come here but you offer no contracts to the one's that are already here. Makes no sense.

You have GM that hasn't been here a month yet. You have a coach who is still interim with a question mark now over him. And you expect the Sabres to hand out contracts???

    PTR

  11. But he based on the fact that PLF was pissed over the trade and there is not only little evidence to that, but a lot of evidence against it.

Actually there is little evidence of anything. I don't count GODD's conspiracy ravings as evidence. Millbury has never been a friend to the Sabres. he could have easily teed off on Pegula and Black but he tees off on PLF instead.

    PTR

  12. Milbury was very animated during the pre-game show. He tried to spin it on Nolan saying how difficult he has been to management because he doesn't want to re-sign. He also said about PLF that if he didn't like that Pegula is the boss, then don't let the door hit him in the ass on the way out.

Uh....actually he said Nolan shouldn't let the door hit him in the rear. He was commenting on Teddy's comment after PLF left, that it showed a lack of commitment to the Sabres and that Murray could do better than Nolan. Millbury also put the whole affair on PLF, drawing a parallel to his brief Isles tenure. Millbury basically said PLF is a big baby who bolts when he doesn't get his way.

  13.

It's the way he's handled his business that people have a problem with. I'm glad he bought the team and I appreciate what he's doing for the city but there's a distinct lack of tact in the way he handles internal problems and that makes me uneasy.

Yeah, it's always "if only he did the other thing..." We are the best at playing the "If only" game.

In my opinion we have this vague expectation and we always look for how people fall short of it. Short of immediate instant success I don't think we would be happy with anyone.
