  1. Broken up into smaller regional divisions. There is too much travel and too many good hockey markets are being ignored because of it. The St. John's Icecaps will leave at the end of this season because the rest of the AHL teams don't want to travel that far, even though they sell out every game.

Why not have a Maritime Canada division, a Northeast US division, Western US and Southern US? NO inter-divisional play until the final playoff rounds.

  2. I think our players are just trying to survive the season, seeing as we are losing a player per game. It's insane. It might also be a lot to expect when you have a team with a foot on the bus already.

Welcome to the Tank! What did you expect? Get ready for more of the same.

  3. How many female players change with the guys. We have 5 women in the league I play in and they all do. Guys try to keep things modest but they also don't let their presence stop them from using the shower, etc. (The women don't shower.) IMO being in the locker room helps team bonding. I recall teams where the female players changed separately. They would just show up on the bench at game time. They never really became part of the team.

Most of the guys feel that we aren't there to get dates, we're there to play hockey. (Although I know one case where a female player got married to a male teammate.) The women are treated like any other player. Being able to talk about the game before, then relax with a beer after is an important part of why we play hockey, and when female players join in that they are more accepted as part of the team.

  4. Lakeshore is the wild west. It's not a bad thing unless you don't like fighting.

I played at the Lakeshore leagues from '90-'93 when I lived in Rochester. I thought they were great back then. Each team was run sort-of like it's own franchise. You had your own name and designed your own jersey. You signed your own players, per approval of the Commish. (We were The Pylons. Is that team still around?) 12 teams per league with a 3 tier post season. (1-4, 5-8, 9-12) Plus I loved having a bar right in the rink.

  5. How often did I read posts wailing about trying to make the 8th seed in the playoffs when the team should have been tanking for draft picks? "Tank, tank, tank! We wanna tank!"

So now we are tanking and just as I expected it's "Wah wah wah, we suck! I'm not gonna support this team 'cause we suck!!" It would be hilarious if it weren't so sad and predictable.

Just deal with it because this will last for the next 3 years minimum.

  6. Rink closed here a few weeks ago and in Olean on Sunday. I'll try to skate a bit over the summer, but it's over an hour to either Jamestown or Orchard Park.

Taking a look at the big picture, my skating is far ahead of what I would have predicted after a few skates. I almost quit, honestly, I was so bad. But as I finished the season, I realized I have a ton of work to do in order to call myself a good skater and play hockey in a respectable fashion. Crossovers, skating backwards with speed, hockey stops — that's Phase 2 of Del Boca Vista.

When you can skate without thinking about it you will be a man, my son.

    Ugh.

Not comparing: I took a puck on the inside of my thigh (you know, that spot in your breezers) in the third period last game, because some dummy thought it'd be a good idea to shoot from below the goal line along the boards (Jochen Hecht's brother?). Now I've got a 6" circular black welt mid thigh. It's not the first time, and it's not the last time. We held them off 3-2. I'll live.

Just a word of warning to anyone taking a shot off the leg: watch for any swelling. If your leg starts getting puffy get to a doctor. It may be a blod clot.

Unfortunately it means a few weeks of self-injections, months on Warferin, and NO HOCKEY! But you have no choice. If that clot breaks off and travels to your heart or brain you won't be doing anything ever.

  7. Prepare yourself for more of the same. Not pleasant by any means, but I was extremely tired of the middling teams that had no real chance at the ultimate prize. You should feel the same way about the Preds IMO. Where are they really going under the Poile/Trotz regime?

Yup. Another year of suck where we may, or may not, win the McDavid lottery. And even if we do it's not like a bunch of talented kids will become a contending team instantly. So embrace the stink because we have several more seasons of it. I hope someone will still be buying tickets. Lord knows I won't be able to afford to keep mine.
