Craig Rivet was quick to point out that you want to avoid surgery as much as possible because surgery never makes you 100% Anything you get done makes you less than you were. He spoke of his shoulder surgeries that allowed him to play but he was never the same. He suggests if Jack can deal with the pain now and play, he'd be better off postponing surgery until retirement.

That's the easy take to have. Look at the past and assume it continues into the future. (Look at any preseason predictions and they look remarkably like last year's standings.) Goaltending is the big question, obviously. But I don't think Granato and the Sabres will be hanging their heads and running for the bus.

True but he's not value-less. I think Jack went to Montreal for the Bio-Steel camp to show what kind of shape he's in right now. I'll bet there will be some private skates to demonstrate that as well. I do agree if something doesn't get done by the start of training camp then we are back at square one.

Adams will have to come down some. I predict the winning package will be a blue-chip prospect, a younger prospect a few years away, an unprotected 1st and another mid-round pick.

Please describe your take on what Adams hand is like. I see a piece of paper with Jack's name signed to it until 2027.

There is nothing Brisson can do to force Kevyn Adams into anything. The days of forcing, pressuring or embarrassing the Sabres into at trade has passed. Talented players turned off from coming here? Surprise. They were never coming here, even if Adams gave Eichel a tongue bath. So despite the dread you obviously feel, nothing has changed. Nothing. The only way Jack gets traded is for Brisson to make nice and play matchmaker.

Jack's gotta look out for Jack.
