  1. Can't wait to see what Isaakson can do this year. He was a late round draft choice out of High School with mad skills and avg. 2 goals per game. Like most college players he mostly sat his first two years, but showed more of his ability last year. If this is a break out year for this young guy, the Sabres may actually have a first line center in two years. One could only hope he is a diamond in the rough.

  2. I'd like to submit to this... court that Terry Pegula says that he talks to darcy but he did make it sound as though he was talking about player types more than actual guys. The hard work thing is something that I have heard Black, Pegula and Regier all mention. I don't think Terry is making decisions and that he is instead pushing for a direction, he is plotting a course but Regier is the captain. They have had multiple conversations it would seem about hard work. They even said that Myers needs to work harder (which of course he does) but the fact they are saying these things is a good sign. Bottom Line: Pegula is not saying "Darcy I want player X, go." It appears as if he is saying "we need talented hard workers, go" which is completely different.

Stop it, you are spooling all our fun and putting a dent into our conspiracy theories... What I want to know is what Pegula knows and when did he know it?

  3. The only problem is fans on a forum use hindsight to convince everybody how much smarter they are than the million doallar GM. Unfortunately, life doesn't work that way, nobody can make decisions based on hindsight. It's certainly easier for a fan to say they were right 2 years down the road. In reality, if team decisions were based on what forum fans thought would be best at the time....... let's just say it wouldn't be pretty. Instead of saying 'I was right I told you so', let's go back to those specific times and see what this board was actually saying. Hindsight sure is convenient to those who think they know it all.

BTW, only the first part of that response was directed at you. The rest was just a general statement. ;)

I agree is some cases fans do, but in the Stafford case there was both foresight and hindsight :censored: and I have been a Stafford hater as far as his play goes, not him personally, for a lot longer than that the signing of his contract. His under-performance with moments of tantelizing play during his contract year was obvious to even a 1st grader.

So nice hyperbole, but the signing of Stafford was nuts in the opinion of many of us and the Leino contract was an obvious reach for many of us as well, though many had hope he could come through. The Sabres needed a center so badly after the tin man became an egg on a wall...

But you don't need to be soothsayer to see either of these scenarios as part of Darcy's many blunders. I have been positive on many players. Still love Vanek, Foligno, Enis, McNabb, Weber, Sekera, Erhoff, Ott,, been impressed with Sulzer and Psysk and Tropp. But I am really confused by Myers and frustrated with the Diva that is Miller, and Grigs and wish Darcy could find a class A center.

  4. As long as you get a gajabillion twitter followers you might get hired by the Huffington post...and then get a chance to return home... So which avatar is this guy. I say we reopen the trail because of new evidence...

  5. Nope. I'd tell you why, but I'm not allowed to discuss any deal I might or might not have negotiated with the defendant. Besides, I'm going to be too busy packing for my move to Del Boca Vista and learning to drive stick on a fastback '70's 'Stang.

Too bad you are going into the world of reruns. The Stang is a nice twist..sigh... learning to drive stick eh?, been doing that since my Dad's Volvo in the snow in Buffalo.

Still, don't burn out the clutch... only rubber.

  6. Buffalo, NY - Chaos reigned today in the so-called "Meddling" trial of Terry Pegula, with the defendant admitting publickly this morning that he, indeed, does meddle in the affairs of the Buffalo Sabres.

Reports of the confession were introduced to the court by none other than Judge Smell, who immediately recused himself for aiding the prosecution. Although an objection was raised by the defense, the lead defense and counsel engaged in coquetry before the bench, raising the tenor of today's chaos.

The prosecution then dismissed all charges, claiming any further procedures would be an exercise in utter futility. Prosecutor Fan said after proceedings wrapped up "...my head is spinning...we knew the case was a near slam-dunk, and we were prepared to go to the mat, but now...now between Pegula's confession and the lotion discussion on the floor, I think I'm going to be drinking heavily for the next few days..."

As if the events of the day weren't enough, the final moments of the proceeding were punctuated by Sheriff Deputies tackling a woman who had leapt from the gallery and started assaulting Defense Attorney Emotion. Deputies cuffed the woman and took her away, Emotion declined to comment on the altercation.

I am going to miss your daily wrap up summaries... Anyway we can hit a button and somehow make the prosecution reconsider if only to keep the histrionics going...?

  7. I object!

Just because my wife and i talk a lot does not mean she ever listens or follows my advice. See Rose v. Rose.

Sustained, I agree, even when my wife and I talk, I lose every arguement and she always gets the last word. I think at this point the prosecution should rest. The evidence is in and I think it is a slam dunk... err wrong sport, the biscuit is in the basket, guility as charged....
  8. Perhaps it's just a case where he really does care and wants to do well and perform, but doesn't have that "I'll go through a wall for this!" mentality. People can care about something and simultaneously not do what it takes to get it done. I'd just use Ralph Wilson as an example...I honestly believe he wants to win, but rarely has he put forth the financial resources necessary (talking coaches and front office just as much as players) to accomplish it.

I am of two minds in respect to this. I think verbally he does care and if emotionally when the team is going bad he can't step up or he needs the game to be fun for him to play well then that is on coaching to figure that out. Guy who are hard on themselves are tough to deal with they need lots of positive encouragement, something they are not going to get from this board.

It may explain why after a game he seems so relieved the times I have seen him, the piano is off his back. Get the boy a shrink and help him get past this thing or move him. I am at the point that I say move him. I agree at his best he is something to watch, but it has been too far and few between. My only other thought his move him to opposite wing with Vanek and see what happens.

Been a long time Drew hater, don't hate the man, just can't stand the lack of effort to go "through a wall"... the boy needs to lead by example, not be a follower and he has the talent to do so.

  9. I was just trying to be a little funny. Fair Enough

Just a parting shot: I find American football to be one of the most boring sports in the world. It's 5 seconds of guys playing smear the ###### followed by 40 seconds of people just standing around. As if standing around isn't boring enough, the standing around is frequently interrupted by commercial breaks. And to slow down the process even more, each team has virtually unlimited time outs, video challenges and who knows what.

I agree professional football and Division I college (professiona fb lite) has gotten to be very boring. I can barely go to games anymore with all the breaks between advertisements. Part of the reason I do like basketball and hockey is the difficulty of advertisements affecting the flow of the games. Soccer also has that advantage too and I do understand the ins and outs of the game, in fact I like playing, just can't watch it. Baseball while very strategic is still boring to play unless you are the pitcher, batter or catcher. It can be very interesting to watch during the playoffs when good teams are playing each other, but when teams play the game badly like the current Mets it is just painful to watch.

Interesting thought, the least exciting hockey series imo was the CAPs Rangers series, neither team could score and the lack of skill depth on offense was similar to watching a mid-season Sabres game.... booring and often what seemed like a lack of cohesion on both teams.

P.S. Smear the @$!@$#@ is called Rugby internationally or at the very least Australian rules football!

  10. had a

Oh yeah?! Your second favorite sport that I don't follow or understand is equally to or more slow moving and boring

What baseball, not my favorite sport, my son has picked to play my two least favorite sports baseball and though I like playing, can't stand the pro... basketball.

I like hockey, football and race cars as my top three. I play hockey, basketball and do a lot of biking.

I do agree soccer is a great agility practice sport for hockey as far as the skills go, but the game itself is one step above baseball. As one HS lacrosse coach "Roy Colsey" former Bandit Star once told me, "baseball is just one guy throwing a ball to another guy with one guy swinging at it with a stick and the 15 plus others standing around watching"...

Now if Soccer had fights on the field and a penalty box then you might have something. Obviously if soccer somehow could have sticks and allow real checking and severe penalties for diving then it might speed up the game and allow more goals, maybe, but like baseball the most fun is in the stands and the food.

  11. Oof. Okay - I get to play judge and legislature. Sorta fun. If anyone else wants to take a stab at it in the meantime, have at it.

Hey, I only did appropriations work, I have no idea how to write this kind language except to say that none of the funds necessary to carry out said Act may be used to fund the salaries or benefits whose duties require them administer or adjudicate said Act.

  12. very kind. thanks.

i'm not so sure whether the law is on the books. Is it?

If it's gonna be a crime, we oughta have degrees.

    Just spit-balling:

Meddling: An Owner*** is guilty of meddling in the first degree when he or she makes any Personnel Decision concerning a Player without regard to or in direct contravention of the advice of the Owner's General Manager. An Owner is guilty of meddling in the second degree when he or she makes any Personnel Decision concerning a Player and in the course of making such Personnel Decision requests and receives the advice of the Owner's General Manager. [And so forth]

***(The inish-capped words would be defined terms.)

Nice definition, except I see no reference to a penal :w00t: code so therefore it must reference common law and therefore be referred to a civil court or a mediator...

I think Darcy should step down until the trial is over. Knowing PA, this could be a long drawn out bedevilment and DR needs to have impartiality.

Actually I think he should step down because he could be charged as a co-defendent and co-conspirator. RICO provisions may apply.

  13. Great! You've always been one of my favorite posters. If I see that you've replied to a post, it's a must click for me.

Isn't the "law" already on the books? I would submit that the charge of "meddling" is universally understood in the context of sports owners. I would cite Bettman v. Avery. No definition of "sloppy seconds" found its way into the proceedings.

My understanding is if "meddling" is a universal term then it would fall under old English common law and therefore be part of civil law whereas TP would only be subject to fines. If "Meddling" is a term that under your understanding would require criminal punishment, then a legislative reference would need to be established with some specificity to hockey.

I think there are plenty of us who could make the language broad enough and watered down enough to fit any circumstances you might foresee. However, I think I could easily organize a 1/3 opposition to any proposal from even being considered on the floor. In fact I think I could achieve a majority. Just my opionion. But this is getting interesting if not inane. So, I propose a tabling of the legislation to some time in the future... in a galaxy far far away...

  14. PA has a long history of tearing down Buffalo Sabres ownership. His whereabouts are fuzzy at best on the nights of May 22nd, 1996 and June 23rd, 1998, the nights of the mysterious murders of the Knox Brothers. PA's sick plot gets deeper when you find he was aid the the chief legal council for Adelphia, and was likely the last person to to speak with President George W. Bush prior to his decision not to pardon the Rigas Family in 2008. And in the most "comic book villian" act to date, PA is known to have been following Tom Galisano around for years, stealthily slipping packets of sugar stolen form local restaurants into his pockets.

It was only a matter of time before PA and his Deluminati henchmen moved on the TP.

The above is good legal strategy, attack the accuser and let me add to it does PA have any relationship to a certain negative Buffalo News reporter or more plausibly to certain Canadian entrepenneur who wants to put a team in Hamilton.... I smell a conspiracy :P

  15. Over the top, I think this preposterous. First we do not know what kind of relationship Pegula has with hockey decisions and if he really was meddling would Darcy still be here? Second, I think it is way too early in his ownership history to have any opinion one way or another on his management strategy even if he is as you suggest, meddling.

Sometimes a little meddling can be good and other times bad, I think the jury should not even be called at this point and only an on going investigation should be announced.
