  1. I don't listen much. But I can pretty much tell you in the next five minutes somebody will be talking about why having a consistent starting goal-tender isn't really what the team needs, and somewhere there is a team that has a guy on a run for 15 games that is cheap that allows us to consider that starting goal-tending can really be found anywhere.

I agree that a consistent goaltender is key. ?How are any of the young goaltenders in the Sabres system looking? My only question is if the Sabres need centers and have some depth "they trust" in the pipeline, could Miller (one of the few valuable commodities the Sabres have) be used to add a few other pieces and high draft picks?? Just asking, as it appears this team is headed nowhere fast...

  2. Sorry, guys, didn't mean to confuse. I figured I'd use the most recent Stafford topic, rather than clutter up the forums with a new one.

Interesting that fans have been pointing out the guy is dead wood for at least 3 seasons now, yet Stafford lingers on the roster. I hope he goes at the end of this season.

It sucks though because as soon as we start the cat calls he actually scores. I hope Ralston doesn't think he is actually good for the team. If he scores maybe it will make him more valuable trade bait. Either way get rid of him.

  3. Cowherd once in a blue moon is interesting. But you have to sift thru to much hay. His analysis of the NBA playoffs was redundant and unoriginal if that is a word. He just repeated everything the analysts on the NBA show said and just repeated and repeated and repeated it over and over again. I hated the NBA even more after listening to one of his last shows, yet I still like basketball.

The NHL hockey comment proves he is not a real sports fan nor is ESPN a sports network anymore. To put down another sport just cause you don't cover it is straight political. I like to compare ESPN programing of hockey to political debate... attack your opponent and never talk about the issue you are weak on.

Face it Cowherd and ESPN fear hockey, it hurts their bottom line.

  4.

The first line has me thinking you are either very young or not in tune to Sabres history (not an insult). As for the 2nd bolded line, I'm pretty sure Kassian was in Rochester when the Lucic/ Miller incident happened.

I agree the Nuck fans are beside themselves with grief on this deal, but after thinking about it overnight, I think it is good for both sides. Kassian has shown a scoring touch, but has seemed lost at times with how to incorporate his game into the pro-game. Could be Ruff, could be just too many wings and not enough ice time to develop, not sure. Sounds like Hodgson had a similar issue in Coover. I still think Kassian could turn into a Dustin Bufglyn (sp?). But the Sabres need a talented young center and Hogdson seems like that kind of player. Either way it is worth the risk. Getting rid of Grags is addition by subtraction, don't know much about the D guy and if he adds anything to the Sabres that is icing on the cake.

All in all fans on both side need to breath and think both sides took calculated risks without giving up the kitchen sink and could get something in return. The Gaustad deal is a steal IMO.

Though, I still think Darcy is an infuriating duck with the way he communicates and seems ignore the immediate needs of this team overloading at one or two positions and ignoring others. Finally, he got one center! Duh... However, the Sabres still need a number 1 center and I hope they finish last to get they can after this season appears lost and I am not excited any center potentially out there that won't cost a kitchen sink and a house and whatever.

At least Marcy seems to be taking a methodical approach to rebuilding this team and that gives me hope. P.S. Ruff can only do so much with no centers and wingers playing at the position. I think this may have been his most difficult coaching year ever because of the lack of center and all the injuries especially Hecht's.

  5. what ... the black leather body suit didn't help break your concentration on the insightful lyrics and catchy, interesting chords?

LOL, yeah but can you actually believe JJ actually yawned doing anything... where as Lita probably lit up before she even said yeah baby...

  6. Sorry I missed this topic in July. I have had some friends who ran smoke shops and lived for a while up in the Ct River valley, I have tried most of what has been mentioned and prefer the Padrones.

Also have had a Cuban from a friend on my bachelor party 10 years ago and still remember the taste. It is different.

But, my standard go to are Ashton's, two types but the one with the white and black label is smoother and the black and gold label with red is stronger. Both are generally a Dominican maduro, but with a full body taste. Not as smooth as the Cuban, but body the Fuente and smoother while having more taste than the Mac.

The 6" x 1" are my favorite and generally the least expensive around $8 in Ct, the longer one's can go as high as $15. I don't buy in NY State because of the price and being so close to the Ct. border.

I too smoke about 20-25 a year and don't claim to be an aficionado. Speaking of which, I might just light up one before the game tonight given how the Sabres have been playing, I might have something positive to enjoy... :wallbash:

    That is my

  7. Stafford needs to go, I would even be willing to put him on waivers and send him down to save money and hope someone grabs him. 'nuff said.

Roy I believe still needs time working out that knee and as others have said, I wouldn't trade him unless you got a talented center in return. His game appears a step slow and his mistakes seem to be a result of that. I see his hustle improving. Whatever you think of his leadership... not. He is more a 2nd or talented 3rd line center.

I haven't believed in dumping Ruff, but now I am not sure. I still can't figure if it is talent on this team that is lacking. But Regier needs to go. It is unconscionable that he hasn't gotten a decent center and kept drafting Defense. They have so many defenders in the pipeline is it scary, What gives, even a blind man could figure out there needed to be something done about the center position 3 years ago when they lost Drury and Briere.

I am tired of stating the obvious.

  8. The problem is we always talk about what stafford could of done.

Agreed, I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the beginning when he showed up and starting throwing his weight around at the beginning of the season. But as typical of Stafford he is a lazy dweeb who has things other than hockey on his mind when he is on the ice. He is not a leader and it is time he steps up. Yes he has lots of talent, but carries a California attitude showing up in spirit only when it suits him.

Dump, put him on waivers, whatever... but agreed he is a cancer on this team. At least Roy puts in the effort as much as he appears to have lost a step. And Goose is what he is making due on his size, but lacks the talent of a much needed center. The Sabres are putting to much emphasis on their young D to carry them and the puck up the ice because of a dirth of experienced talent at center.

Looks like a long season. Maybe they would be better off finishing in the last 5. They sure could use a talented draft pick.

  9. as a full-fledged mormon in utah, i'm pretty sure i can safely speak for all of us when i say NONE OF US want more than a single wife. those polygs in texas and arizona can have 'em.

not to mention the fact that actual mormons long ago gave up the concept of plural marriage. probably for a damn good reason.

    Well said, LOL

  10. I've been having this complaint for years. I'm starting to think that road tests are becoming so much easier that it's almost like getting your driver's license from a box of cereal. People really have no clue on the roads anymore.

My complaint (you knew I'd have one): I pulled something or wrenched the muscles by my shoulder blade so badly that it's triggered the trigger point and pain is shooting down my arm. No, it's not a stroke coming on (though, my stresses at work would disagree with that). I did this by simply raising my arm to wash my hair in the shower last Friday - the pain was in my neck/shoulder only until I woke up with this yesterday morning. I've been taking ibuprofen and it helps, but if I wake up with this again tomorrow, it's time for the doctor...and I have golf tournaments coming up. :censored:

Careful, sounds like rotator-cuff issues. Change the way you sleep. Keep taking ibuprofen for a week before you call... part of getting old though, it sucks. Did it last year and have been using those rubber band things at the advice of a trainer to strengthen muscles without the impact of weights. Seems to help, but has taken a long time to subside. Lifting my kids up doesn't help.

My wife is a nurse and that is what they are going to tell you before they really want to look at you.

P.S. Advil and ibuprofen are basically the same thing. You can try Aleve.

  11. Given some of the things you've written about her inability to interact with your family, you're better off in the long run.

I know, probably little comfort right now.

But a better fit will come along.

More and more I appreciate the polygamy attitude of the Mormons, but not sure I could deal with more than one woman at a time. Got a hard enough time doing that. Maybe the reason I avoided marriage till almost 40.

Just remember as an old Irishman once told me... all women were educated in the basement of the Pentagon at 5 years old and they know all the psy-ops tricks. Have a beer and don't get too emotionally invested the next time. Remember they accuse us men of not being emotional anyway.

  12. All good and well, but it still doesn't mean the miserable behavior should be tolerated by management.

Agreed, but what recourse do employees have for miserable behavior by management, kinda of hypocritical don't you think? All part of the tug and pull of power... once again it is all B.S.

On the ice for 3 of 4 Buffalo goals, neither of the Los Angeles goals. His power play points came against the best PK unit in the league.

I don't know what stat line you are reading from but even the Sabres official page has him at -8. He was -9 going into the game. So you are at best off by two points. My guess is that Connolly was given credit for being on the ice for the first goal against and not on the ice for one of the others.... Logic would dictate some scenario like that since he was definitely on for two goals including the one he scored. Link http://sabres.nhl.com/club/stats.htm

The NHL stat line from the online viewing of the game, during the game had him -1 and 0 after the goal he scored. If you have some other official NHL Stat line send me a link....

That being said his goal was a nice goal in that he at least got to the puck. I saw him get knocked down at one point and didn't bother getting up enabling the Kings to get control of the puck. He made a lot of lazy plays especially early on and it is that sort of disease in his game that bothers me... one of effort not talent. Connolly has great talent if he would only play with some fire in his belly.

  15. At this point, though, aren't you just deflating your own argument? Do you really think that first goal was at all Connolly's fault? And if not, then what's it matter if he was a -1?

The +/- is a good stat but at times it can be very misleading.

Not really, I don't like the guy and despite finally doing a little net hanging and banging in a rebound. I saw him give up on way to many plays and make poor decisions on the power play. The only reason he didn't crap out in front of the net was because Vanek was taking all the heat for him. Until Connolly can play better in the corners and do a little more hustling he can have all the skill in the World but not get my respect.

  16. No, that was a power play goal so it doesn't factor into a +/- rating. He was even at that point because he wasn't on the ice for any LAK goals. Despite both of his points coming on the PP, he was a +1 for the game. So, he was on the ice for 3 out of 4 Buffalo goals and no Los Angeles goals. He certainly deserves criticism, but not for tonight from your biased response.

He was on for the first LA goal... check out the stat line later on. I have NHL online and clicked on the stats early on. They had Connolly at -1
