If the Sabres were to sign Shane Doan -

I'm not saying Doan has anything to do with any porn star.....I'm just pointing out his agent goes above and beyond the call of duty to max out his deals....that's all. It depends where Doan goes.....the only place other than Buffalo or Phoenix where it wouldn't be a failure might be Vancouver as his wife has her family there and they were just in a cup. What if he goes to the Rangers though? You can't spin it any other way except Buffalo is so far away from a Cup that he'd give up millions of cash and a potential rural lifestyle in a family friendly town for a shot to win a Cup in the basic attention center of the world. We'll cross that bridge when we get there......and I've said, I'm glad the Sabres are making a run at it and identified where it is ok to overpay. I want to like this team and would assume if Doan is out...maybe there is another option out there......and maybe that is why they are stalling with Ennis as he may need to go the other way in a deal. -
Cool....I love the old stuff. My biggest sin as a collector is when I was little, I liked the stickerbooks more than the cards...so if I was missing a sticker I would cut the card to fit the empty spot and tape it in. I did it with a Gretzky/Messier combined OPeechee card, Tony Dorsett, Kellen Winslow, Michele Goulet....just to name the good ones I can remember. The first one was a killer. I feel bad for the generation that just beat the daylights out of their collections. Probably some poor guy still working at 78 that used 5 Mantle rookies to make a muffler for his Huffy.

Okie Dokie...... And they are relevant, as I pointed out the timing of Bross's declaration, 2 hours before the appeals court turned around the decision on the sales tax needed to pay the arena fee. He is no dummy. He has set this up knowing full well there is a good chance the deal doesn't get done with Jamison, and Doan will walk away looking like a Champion. Brilliant PR. If it went any other way, it would look like a money grab......and knowing Bross's past, and your assumption Doan will not pay him based on the best offer.....Bross will be working like a hound to pump up Buffalo to Doan. I have laid it all out.....I guess poorly, since you fail to grasp that concept. In my recent pleasantries with K-9, I will take back and assume it has been my lack of communication skills and not the fact we are trying to protect the image of the Sabres and assume failure ahead of time. I'm sure if there is no deal by tomorrow night, the Dregers and the Eklunds of the world will be putting out whispers of Doan leaving, even though not one person has mentioned it as a possibility the past week given the assumption that Doan was signing in Phoenix. Even if you read Doan's article...he said a half dozen times he "hopes" Jamison gets the deal done, and left the possibility tacetly open he could still leave. -

WHAT? Please read the link.....and there are dozens more about Bross if you google it. No...Doan signs in Phoenix.....or in Buffalo......and if not, I am not saying the Sabres currently blew it.....but their self-annointed claim of Hockey Heaven would sure look hollow if one of the most stand-up guys in the league not only turned you down...but turned you down for much less money on a team he views as a legit contender.....even though the Sabres have maxed out their cap and used every trick in the book to inflate bonuses and hide dead salary in the minors or overseas. Does that not scream "Failure" to a logical person? I don't know about the $500,000 and said so. I know if my agent worked to get a huge deal, then I took tons less to be comfortable in a place.....out of respect and the fact I have $20 million rolling in, I would give the guy the payment on what he worked out. At least split the difference or something. Isn't the agent's job to get the best deal possible? Heck, LegalZoom.com could be Doan's agent for a Phoenix deal for $99. -

Everyone has had Phoenix sold and Doan signing there and left it alone......even though I have said since June to read between the lines......Pegula would be all over him......the deal would be hard pressed to get done by the lockout......Doan's camp was setting him up to be the good guy even as he left. If you don't box yourself in, you see things, hear things, and think things...........if you always accept everything at face value, you shall be blissful. -

It would be fun for everyone to meet up at some point. It's a weird little community vibe here, but I think it would be a blast. Trust me, my friends want to shoot me at times when I run my mouth. I've just never been one to shelter an opinion. It's not always the best career move or if someone can't separate conversation from personal it could lead to animosity.....but I've always been one to say what I think is right and honest....and at the same time get frustrated when I see someone doing the opposite.

I'm amazed how many times this place is at the top of a google search. I don't know if it ever has to do with cookies of websites your computer visits.....but I have tried researching some things in the past only to see one of my posts or a topic here up near the top. There was actually a Penn St. discussion out of Chicago where Dan Bernstein broke a story, and the follow up happened......and discussion on that board led someone to do research......and led them to this board and our discussion. -
I appreciate your kind regards. I see some good things with the Sabres, but to me it comes down to trust and faith. It's sort of like when you are in a relationship with someone.....and you know the love isn't there anymore.....and you know longterm it isn't going to work.....but you stay together in the nearterm out of loyalty...or habbit.....and wind things down. The bond has been broken with me and the Sabres in a sense considering the same people have been around for so long. I know their tricks.....I know their excuses....I know when they perform well and when they don't. That has a lot to do with it.......it is hard to gain trust back when you give your heart and get shat on. If the Sabres were to get Doan or a leader of his caliber, and continue the push towards internal accountability......I am more likely to be forgiving....and have been for the most part to a certain point this offseason. And I really don't mean to be condescending towards 99% of the people here. There are certain posters at certain times who play games.....and I think points I am making against them get picked up by many who are more apt to support the team no matter what.....and they identify with that and view my comments as an attack against them. I am sure I could go into PC business mode in my posts here at times to avoid some of that, but I am just trying to shoot the shite most of the time and being honest. I don't expect everyone to understand my approach or even 80% of what I say.....and that in itself can be condescending I guess by saying that.....but it can get frustrating trying to make an in-depth point and have to answer to 20 different people who don't agree with it without a lot of extra meaningless work. If I was on a payroll somewhere to communicate.....I'm sure I'd be a little more careful or patient. No hard feelings ever.

If he signs with Phoenix.....not at all. But I have been following this with both eyes open, and have firmly believed that a deal will not be in place to sell the team by Sep. 15th. Terry Bross is as shrewd as they come, and put out the Sep. 15th deadline mere hours before Glendale went to court on the tax issue that would fund the arena and Coyotes. Glendale lost, and now they have offered Jamison 40% less in fees given they can't count on the sales tax revenue. That right there chops $70 million off the value of the Coyotes going forward on a present value basis. So.....either Jamison signs a deal with Glendale for $10 million this year instead of $17 million......or there needs to be some miracle 11th hour breakthrough to get a deal done with the city, and the NHL.....and the NHL has enough on it's plate. I've said...sure, Doan can still sign there and I would respect that and the fact the Sabres identified a raw need and went after it. However if he signs somewhere else for a considerable haircut to what the Sabres are offering.......then it really makes the Hockey Heaven talk look like a bunch of hogwash. Doan already said he is not a commuter......so he will not plan on playing somewhere and being away from his family, flying back and forth. By the way.....Terry Bross is so clever, he would hire porn stars to be in the hotel bar when pending free agents were coming to Arizona with their current teams to play against an Arizona club, and have them target those guys and "entertain" them, while making it known they were friends of Bross. It led to a capture or two of a new client. -

If Doan is the "stand-up guy" he is made out to be.....his agent did his job and got him a $30 million offer. I don't know what standard operating is, but if that were me, I would pay him.....and I would assume Doan would as well. -

That is not the most stupid thing ever said. Vanek got a year in the AHL last time. Give the 2 young centers that extra year of seasoning.........very good point. What is crackpot? The only theory I can see is that the team may end up in Quebec. If that is what you are suggesting as crackpot, I will give that one to you as I should defer all matters of representing an NHL team during ownership transfers or bankruptcy to you. -

So.....everyone give up? Is Doan going to leave $10 million on the table AND write his agent a $500,000 check for the cash he passed up?......only to end up in Quebec? or....is Doan going to play for a team he sees as a "Cup Contender", for 40% less cash, even though the Sabres have combined over the past 2 seasons to lead the league in salary outlay? or.....will Doan be a Sabre on Monday? Is Buffalo, Nirvana......or Cesspool? We shall soon find out. -
An undersized QB with lots of smarts but not much pop in his arm, has a horrible game and a pick-6 after an offseason of heightened expectations and added responsibility. A crafty veteran at RB who is among the leaders in all purpose yards, gets crushed with a devastating hit early in the game, leaving a 3rd year back to handle the load going forward. A young, top drafted, QB who had little success the previous year, lights up a secondary consisting of a top pick, a crafty vet and a nice pair of safetys......with the help of a rookie who torched the D, and an offensive line who made one of the top projected Defensive line rotations in the league look ordinary. All this, leaving a dejected Buffalo community with a gloomy cloud hanging over what should have been the home opener tailgate of the decade. Would you like me to tell you what happens next? Because I can.........since the exact scenario I described happened IN 1999!! The Buffalo Bills went into Indianapolis to face the 3-13 Colts from the previous season. Doug Flutie was going in as the unquestioned starter after some suprising success at times the previous year.....and on the first series of the game, hung Thurman Thomas out to dry on a screen pass which left Thurman with a bruised liver and out for much of the season. 3rd year back Antwain Smith was left to carry the load. A Bills D-line which consisted of: Bruce Smith, Phil Hansen, Ted Washington, Pat Williams, and Marcellus Wiley.....couldn't get any pressure on the road.....and the secondary of a new #1st round pick, Antoine Winfield, along with decent vets Henry Jones, Kirk Schulz, Thomas Smith and Ken Irvin....got burned for close to 400 combined yards. The Bills lost 31-14 to a team with 3 wins the previous season.......and things looked dire. What happened next? The Bills went on a 4 game winning streak, which included holding their next 2 opponents to 3 combined points.......went to the playoffs......and minus a fluke kickoff, could have done some real damage the rest of the way. Granted.......you can't say for sure that is what is about to happen......but this team stacks up in almost every way to that 1999 team. There were a few more veterans who lingered and had known success from the superbowl years, but last week was almost an exact replay of what happened then. The only difference is in 1999 the Twittersphere, and Iphone apps, and ADHD hadn't taken 100% hold of the world. Is it fair to be concerned and question expectations. Hell yes. But in is not rational to have such emotional swings in expectations after 60 minutes of football. You even see it with supposed media experts. People are so scared to "own" a real opinion.....it's all just sticking a finger up into the wind.

Vegas has dismissed the game as a fluke. Especially in today's HDHD/Twitter/IPhone world......the most $$ can be made on overreaction. Sharps will kill lines in minutes...... You see 4 or 5 games that went unexpected yesterday in either outcome or lopsidedness. There is only 1 inefficient game from yesterday i see in the lines. GreenBay/SF. It is tough because next week they have 2 opponents who also looked different than their projected showing, in Chicago and Detroit. They are betting SF big against Detroit, and hitting Chicago against GB. The most logical conclusion from that is it has been decided Detroit is the weak link in that scenario. Either that, or Chicago is a legit SuperBowl contender. If you can figure out which one of those 2 statements is true, and which is false, you will make a mint next week. Buffalo and the Jets however has been ignored. Pitt after a so-so showing against Denver is a 6 point favorite against NY, and the line has not budged......and Buffalo is 3 1/2 against KC and also hasn't budged. I can see where they may have opened 4 1/2 before yesterday.....but basically, when you see the action on many of the other games, it becomes obvious the Bills game is being thrown out. Atlanta was hammered by the sharps going into yesterday, so the outcome of that game does not neccessarily make KC look weak. Atl is a 3 point favorite against Den next week. As for the game itself......Fitz was it. If he's still diking around with David Lee and more worried about that then playing off instinct, they need to cut it out. Football happens at light speed...it's not like golf where you can "fix" your swing and take a 2 minute approach on each shot. Either way....he was horrible, and I was disappointed he came out in "Pommer-speak" after the game. You have a fairly young team that can lose confidence after expectations like that...especially on offense, and he should have just jumped on the grenade in more flamboiant terms. I'm not worried about the front7 of the D.....they will get it figured out, CB.....someone needs to bring naked pictures of Gilmore's mother in the lockerroom and get this guy on edge a little for the games. Even Gailey has said if he brings practice intensity out there, he will be fine. There will be some tweaks. Offense.....Nelson gone is huge. Mr Graham looks like he can play some football, but he probably has 30% the football IQ of Nelson at this point. Freddy probably misses 3 games.....and then get this thing back on track. All you can do is throw it out. If they are pathetic next week.....then feel free to go ape. If this ever was or is a playoff team, the leaders will be feasting on bones this week and getting angry. They have their fans next week, so no excuses. In the longterm, this could be the best thing to happen to them. If they suck...they would have sucked anyway. If they are good, this wakes them the F up.

Interesting choice. It is in the Christian community however, the common term for both Satan and those who do his work. I'm sure Obama and his people knew that though.....being the good, solid, Christian that he is....heading a party guided by God.
