I've made that SAME error for years! Greatful! :) (Not blaming autocorrect)

I remember we had an $800 billion stimulus for projects that weren't, in hindsight, shovel ready. If they were, wouldn't our collective dollars have poured into them instead of into taxes and deficits? Isn't this an example of government making billions of dollars worth of decisions we rejected as outcomes? Look, I'm not a "no government" guy. I post because pendulums swing too far. Private capital makes mistakes, too. It makes them less frequently, I believe, because the consequences are more profound. When it makes mistakes, the consequence of error is born by those who made decisions and risked capital. Solyndra received $500 million because no private money thought it made sense and government was looking to get money out the door. It was gone in months.

Just a thought. If I have interests, don't I choose candidates to serve them? If I have interests, don't I choose corporations to serve them? Are there interests I have, that I'm not aware of, that governments find for me? Are our interests as consumers, collectively, different than our interests as citizens, collectively? If we're unaware, why do candidates appeal to those interests when campaigning? My rub is government concluding it knows more than those who selected the representatives. Aside - that's the origin of "elites", by the way. It has nothing to do with talent. Instead, it has to do with some subset presuming it knows what's really good for the rest of us. When we really want green energy, oil wells will become unprofitable. It happens. Nothing happens faster than what happens when a human being recognizes a chance to profit. Until then, all too often you get central planning, taxes and Solyndras. If we can be trusted to choose our representatives, can't we be trusted to choose our products? Rhetorical, all ... My lens.

Re Meghan Kelly - "I never meant THAT, I meant THIS." Re John McCain - "I never meant THAT, I meant THIS." 2nd Amendment - "I never meant that, I meant THIS." Character - you chose the words and you knew what they meant. Own it. Cowardice and character.

Mr. Trump does not need a liberal media, debate set aside, to make his remarks outrageous or out of context. Neo, an all amendment guy, 2nd included, who supports each of you and your 1st amendment right to post, status as a whack job notwithstanding.

No snark. You're on to something I think about. There is nutritional guidance now. No problem, as long as having the government give me guidance is better and more cost effective than what I find, myself. Soda size is (was proposed?) to be limited in NYC. I know soda's bad. I'd expect government to regulate food IF and when it's paying for my healthcare. That's one of my concerns about single payor systems. Governments that insure without regulating activity are unwise. See the S&L and the 2008 banking crises. Think life insurance, sky diving and motorcycle us. Think homeowners insurance and swimming pools. Nothing conclusive because it's too soon for me to be conclusive. It's certainly part of the risk analysis and cost benefit calculus. If we go single payor, we should go regulated health activity, including diet and exercise. Single payor healthcare is big government, right or wrong. Single payor without restrictions is dumb big government.

The short happy life of the Buffalo Braves was truly wonderful. Big league, big time, stars, competitive for a time ... and so many greats came to Buffalo. I've seen a couple dozen NBA hall of farmers live because I was a kid in Buffalo. Awesome logo ...

Asplund ahead of Fasching? A surprise, to me. I suspect that's the writer's ranking and not a result of considering Fasching an NHLer, last season's final roster status notwithstanding.

K9 - It would be easier to discuss without the derisive, condescending and smug use of "deniers".

I mentioned a poignant father - son scene from a film, above. It is number 2. Number1: http://www.goodreads.com/videos/86302-the-four-virtues-according-to-marcus-aurelius---gladiator Click and then play the video.

Mad Magazine? I know it survived for a long time, but it was essential to a junior high boy in the 1970's. Yay or nay.

One of the things I think about from time to time - not viewing college as necessarily vocational. The Flamingo Kid - with me paraphrasing: Matt Dillon: You're a plumber. You didn't go to college. Héctor Elizondo: Then you'll be an educated plumber! That'll make you a better plumber than me. Fathers and sons. I've played both roles. I think an educated anything is beautiful. The movie's memorable to me, and not just because of Janet Jones. I understand my thinking is not mainstream in everybody's calculus of the cost of college. However, one of Western New York's great strengths is its educated work force. That applies across careers and vocations. I believe America's best hope, its greatest advantage, is somewhere in this concept. Our standard of living demands we produce the best, not the cheapest, anything. Consumers around the world find value.
