  1. Royalties!
  2. D4rk painted this.
  3. Oh, man .....
  4. Kane's my obvious. I dig your less obvious.
  5. . Runner up ... Keeping Randy Cunnyworth and having him in a player development role. The learned, and the Amerks fans, may offer more insight than me, but I think Cunnyworth's one of those valuable organizational assets you hope you can keep.
  6. Nylander, the draft in Buffalo, and all the quality information, analysis and "what ifs" in our draft thread. Tip of the cap to Crusader, among numerous others.
  7. There's always, tomorrow .... for dreams, to come true ....
  8. Brando in Apocalpse Now because, well, this is what I look like. Unfortunately, I don't look like young, sex symbol, Brando.
  9. I'll stake a claim. If an entire community finds spouse offensive, it's still not offensive. I'll add golf outing! And now, I'm joining my spouse, in our marital bed, to sleep, in order to rise early and earn a living wage and ultimately enjoy the fruits of my labor, as she and I see fit. God willing.
  10. Micro aggressions. Someone, earlier, said something along the lines of "it's offensive if someone finds it offensive". Maybe that's my half accurate paraphrase. If no one else said it, well, I just did for purposes of the following. If you find spouse or golf outing offensive, the problem is your own. IM often offensive HO. And, because we're being so nice and making such progress, I'll toss this grenade. I find word policing, safe spaces, and micro aggressions to be thought, speech and idea limiting fascisms of the progressive left. A distinction it's my experience the left will claim, by the way, until the right points it out.
  11. Outstanding. Truly? I'm not sure. I use African American because I believe it's the single best term most acceptable to the community involved. I remain educable.
  12. I think I posted this before, and to PA's point. My very respectful, un-bigoted, elders used the word colored. At age ten, or so, I was very hip, modern and culturally current. I heard black on television. My great uncle used the word colored, once. I smugly asked "oh, what color is that?" He gave me a look that said so much to me. Chastising the respectful for not necessarily keeping up with new trends was as disrespectful as using a slur. I'd even stopped short of calling him deliberately offensive. It was obvious that he wasn't when he used yesterday's word. It took me years to drop black for African American. I believe that moment, and the embarrassment I felt, bubbled up when JJ first posted. "Hey, a new word is emerging. I know you're not being deliberately offensive, ignorant or lazy". Demanding tolerance comes with the responsibility to be tolerant.
  13. My Italian grandmother would never have expected to see this day! Small victories, small victories. Er, Italian American. Um, American of Italian descent.
  14. According to the American Psychological Association: ""Intersex" was originally a medical term that was later embraced by some intersex persons. Many experts and persons with intersex conditions have recently recommended adopting the term "disorders of sex development" (DSD). They feel that this term is more accurate and less stigmatizing than the term intersex." For those ignorant of the metamorphoses of the word 'hermaphrodite' to the word 'intersex', you can take solace in knowing your ignorance is likely to be short lived. DSD emerges, until, of course, someone's offended by 'disorder', which will surely follow.
  15. Interesting and good: I felt zealots and zealotry were well portrayed. Think freedom fighters. Also, the Romans marching in as non-discrept human beings becoming formidable only when the cameras pulled back and you saw them en masse, acting as one trained unit, was an interesting perspective. When Judah's voice went gravelly, post galley slave, it hit me. Richard Harrow from Boardwalk Empire! The brain works in funny ways.
  16. I tried to say this out of the gates. You said it better. I think it's cool what Great Britain's done. Not exactly a long shot, I guess, but I would never have guessed GB without medal prediction tables.
  17. I was thinking about that, too. Add cultural diversity. 330 million people with dozens and dozens of interests and backgrounds.
  18. Indeed it does. Zero denigration!
  19. I'm not a medal history expert. Is that being reported? Google tells me USA-St. Louis-1904. I remember Los Angeles, 1984.
  20. Spoiler trespass acknowledged. On me. That said, I don't think it will change anyone's experience, without attempting to get a pass for my faux pas.
  21. Weak sauce, to you or to any group of people, or class, that'd draw that distinction and consider it meaningful regarding deliberately offensive language, which was the topic.
  22. I've only read this page once. Correct me if I'm wrong. The most deliberately offensive use of language with regard to others lies in your post as directed toward JJ. The intolerance of the various tolerance movements fascinates me (with no nod toward Hoss, in general).
  23. Saw Ben-Hur last night. 3-D. Just not well made movie. It had a made for tv or mini series vibe. Little of the grand scenic opportunity realized. Interesting ten minute chariot race and ten minute naval battle scenes. Almost bizarre ending bringing all characters together to hug. Smiles, hugs, some platitudes, weird. Star power absent, save Morgan Freeman who almost appeared "lonely" wandering among lesser lights.
  24. Awesome post ... Truly.
  25. I corrected Pasta Joe, who I saw first. Damn edits. You've taught me much about 23 years. I understand your distinction. I'm saying simply that of all the paths, I've not gone down those particular ones. Respectfully, it could be me!
