  1. I'm reminded of the Lindy/Adam practice video .... "know why you're gonna get that call? you're a Sabre, that's why" let me stew. I am not a conspiracy guy. generally, we've deserved more time in the box. however, the instigator and misconduct calls are salt in my Sabre wounds.
  2. No and no. Terrible result. I voted no and no because neither intended the result and both did what anyone may have done in the 1/64th of a second they had to think. There is no training, for even the best intentioned person, that stops him from shoving when someone slows and leans back into him. Had the trailing player backed off when the first slowed, allowing the first to stop and gain puck possession, we'd say he was unaggressive and call for a game in the press box to watch and think. What would the proper play be for the trailer and could anyone execute the hypothetical best F=m*a or p=m*v in an instant? At what frame does the proper play become apparent to the trailer? Someone got hurt. Must be someone's fault. I don't buy it. My best wishes and God speed to both victims of circumstance.
  3. I was there. I remember the the sound system playing Clapton's "After Midnight" at 12:05, Chuck Berry's "Reelin and Rockin", and Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock". Kids were sleeping in the arms of standing fathers. I think Hasek made 70 saves for the shut out. I've never been able to learn if that's the all time NHL record. I sat with Stephane Richer at a charity event, years later. He called Hasek's performance the greatest he'd ever seen; "post to post to post ... I raised my arms three times thinking I'd scored". Among my all time favorite evenings.
  4. I will be at the game to night, representing, with the NeoEttes. Row C between the benches. Look for shaved head, Mr. Magoo glasses, and a sixteen year old girl in a Kaleta jersey. Go Sabres, first win of the Rolston era.
  5. nfreeman and Stormin Norman - right on and thank you. I am rarely at a loss for words. However, I can hold mine when someone else has said all that needs to be said. You both did. Thank you, Lindy, and the best of all things to you and your family.
  6. I posted in another thread about the time I took my son to his first game Remember remember remember! You'll enjoy for years. I sense "my kids" in many of your posts.
  7. I am about 1/3 through Les Miserables. I never got around to it, before. I saw the current iteration of the film over Christmas, in Buffalo, and loved it. It is a tour de force ... and I would recommend it to anyone. It paints all that is "French", for me, in hues and tones I'd not seen before. Epoch, vast, human. I finished, tonight, "The Second Amendment" by David Barton. A pamphlet, really. I was inspired by the gun control debate on this board and decided to explore original intent, language, and commentaries. I read very slowly, but was able to zip through in an evening. To those who participated in such a lively fashion in that thread, I'd recommend it. Couple of bucks on Amazon.

Just having fun, man, while you guys went back and forth. Search my posts and you'll fill a wheelbarrow with typos, spell-os and proof-os!

Fair question. I am confident that winning the Calder is evidence of being able to do things others cannot. I am less confident of my ability to articulate. I will limit my response to "can" while recognizing that if he always "did", this thread wouldn't exist. I wrote. You asked. Here goes. Myers can be a unique package of size and skill. There are others, with Pronger and Chara being mentioned most frequently, in the same category. Both will be Hall of Famers. I am not aware of any name that appears more often than those two when fans and experts look to measure Myers. He can cover ground in his own end by either moving his feet or using his reach. He skates fluidly. He skates fast. He can cover ground offensively in breathtaking fashion. He can make teams retreat with alarm. He can skillfully work in close, behind either net. He can recover fast. He shoots, he scores. He can even play physically (I remember the Philly playoff series where he rag dolled a Flyer to the ice and out of the crease. Prematurely, I muttered "he's arrived" under my breath.) This is what I believe he can do and/or be that others cannot. We're posting here because "can" and "do" aren't always the same. Lastly, I acknowledge that he's not the first in these categories. Further, he's not alone in any category. Read together, what he can do is very impressive. Even with the second thought your question begged, I remain convinced. Perhaps my original post would have been better had I said that "few others can" instead of "that others cannot".

When it comes to message boards, I am a self acknowledged neophyte. If I have one conclusion, it's that posts that begin with "so, in other words ..." usually don't accurately paraphrase the original words. I don't think the original post makes the point that coaches aren't necessary except for (maybe) setting lineups and making substitutions. Instead, the post tells me that players can become confused by messages and thrive when de-emphasizing them. There can be many other messages, outside of focus, that this particular coach was good for. My mom was a terrible cook. I am not saying, in other words, that she was good only for (maybe) putting on band aids and buying school supplies.
  12. Thank you. I like old time hockey, but if they do away with the face wash, I'd be happy. It's bush.
  13. I've watched three times. I don't get it, unless he said something.
  14. Cody Hodgson did what Leopoldo should've done in OT a few games ago.
  15. Fire drill in our own zone. I'm not an XO guy, but it seems the feet aren't moving. A lot of one hand reaches with the stick.
  16. We could finish this period with more SOG than we had last night.
  17. I like it in the best of the rest category, in my mind. Would you call "Callahan or Lucic" categorically similar?
  18. Me? Malkin. I agree that Crosby's the most complete now. His injury history caused me to back away. Datsyuk? An all time gem, for sure. A perfectly complete player on a spectacularly complete team. Just a little older, making Malkin more attractive to me. Stamkos was the most difficult for me to "not choose". What a trajectory. I'll play it safer with Malkin, who's done it longer. Weber, wow. I went forward because needs there are more pressing, this season's start not withstanding. Quick. The only goaltender I considered.
