  1. Darren Dreger reports Matt Ellis is on waivers. Tough for him. Maybe of the nicest and most genuine person I've ever met in hockey. #Sabres 12:12pm - 10 Feb 13 BillHoppe on Twitter. I hope I get this twitter interweb stuff right ...

    Tyler Myers

There are explanations, and probably most of them are "good ones". I'm not sure I blame Ruff as much as I don't have confidence in him. Is that a fair distinction?

    Tyler Myers

I hope there's not a thread like this in 2016 where "Grigorenko" replaces "Myers". I've said it before. I'm a Lindy Ruff guy. I like the man and remember him as a favorite of mine, back in the day. Neither of those two things make him the right coach. I have a feeling, without analysis, that we see talent when it arrives and then lament when it doesn't develop or regresses (to use a word that repeats on this board). Is Vanek blossoming because he's reached an age, an experience level, where he's comfortable in his own skin and not trying to do the things Ruff explains and drills over and over? Is it helpful that a man turns 30, matures, and stops worrying about a coach that will pick apart every shift? Do younger men have a harder time doing that? I am remembering the Scotty Bowman criticisms at the end of his career. "He's lost the ability to communicate with younger players" was a common theme. The middle level talents thrive here. See Jochen Hecht. Imported talent that thrived elsewhere, shrivels. See any free agent or deadline pick up. Lower level talent stays what it is, but isn't remarked on because there is a corresponding low expectation. There are exceptions. See Briere, Drury. I understand this. Armia, Kassian, Hodgson, Ennis, Foligno, Myers, Grigorenko ... is anyone thinking "I can't wait for Ruff to get his hands on him?" Myers was a Calder winner on merit. He can do things others can't. He's not doing them now. He's thoughtful and has a team attitude. I don't understand why. Go team ...
  4. Once again, I love his posts. "Cast off thine eye ... more intolerable than a fiend's glaring is a doltish stare."
  5. It looked like Pom believed we had a 4 goal lead in the last minute and Vanek needed one for a hat trick.
  6. I hope you return. We're better when you're here.
  7. Grigorenko's head must be spinning .... I can feel it ... Vanek to Grigs - "just tune him out and play ... and don't wait eight years ...".
  8. I am getting a Chan Gailey vibe. Confused, little identity, deer in headlights, unemotional press conferences, repeated expressions and platitudes ...
  9. Hopefully, we'll all remain civil. PS .. stupid hat.
  10. I have two kids attending UF. and I can't post well with an iPhone.
  11. I'll be walking the University of Florida campus for Parents' Day. Go Gators. I'll watch this game tomorrow morning. That's not my reason for posting, however. I am feeling the compressed season sensation with shorter intervals between games. I wake up, and there's another GDT. I love it, but I don't have injuries or fatigue. It will be interesting to watch teams for the next few months.

    Big John Scott

The thing about Scott that impresses me most ... the end of the game. The Bruins sent out their call up tough guy with13 seconds left at statement time. Scott comes over the boards. Nothing. That screams louder to me than the Thornton TKO. How many times have we seen that in reverse? It was like the two teams traded identities.
  13. Just a thought with a trip to Boston upcoming ... a five game losing streak in a forty eight game season approximates a nine game losing streak in an eighty two game season.
  14. At home. What does Pegula say? Leo's feet just stopped. Miller just brain freezes. I just don't sniff "winners", forget talent.
  15. That is an excellent question. I vote not in top six (Lindy) but he'd get the seventh call ... "We want to bring him along in situations he can be successful in without putting too much pressure ... ".
  16. His assist on Grig's game tying goal was SICK, though ..... [poking your severe delay].
