I said this. People scoffed. Perhaps it's not true but when you look at the actions it's not difficult to game-out where such actions would eventually lead. It's very much like what's happening at all of the small colleges around here - sorry, some of the them are now "universities" - most if not all formerly Christian-based like Canisus, D'Youville, Houghton, etc., where their boards have turned over and they then hired SUNY system zombies to run the schools. Like I said, some of them have gone "university", all have or are realigning their core mission and have overhauled their curriculum in curious ways. What's the end-goal? If I wanted to eliminate competition for the SUNY schools and consolidate what is considered academics in NYS I would place puppets on these boards who hire puppets to run these places into the ground or, at best, severely limit what these places offer where those offerings, like health-care, fall under a rubric outlined by the state anyway. Then they either close down or become completely state controlled - either absorbed outwardly or extremely regulated while outwardly appearing to remain independent (the latter of which is what we're seeing now). If you like people indoctrinated by the state doing everything for you I guess this outcome is fine, but I think "the state" has other ideas for "the citizens" which I don't agree with. Same could be true with Pegula - if he wanted to sell the team it'd be so easy if he ran it as far into the ground as he possibly could. This is what I'd do.

Call me crazy, but I can swear @That Aud Smell clarified multiple times up thread that this take completely misses the point of the thread.
-
I have a side theory that Pegula is intentionally running the team into the ground so he can justify selling the Sabres to a buyer who would move them out of town.
-
The Sabres as an organization are completely brain dead. At how many home games do you need to be booed before you finally understand changes need to be made?

Tim Connolly says hello.

Does he still live here?

Yay, team. Great stretch for UPL. I'm not convinced, though, unfortunately, as he's still over-committing on some of his plays. The positive side is that means he's getting support from his team in those instances. Mitts has been making bone-headed Mitts passes lately as well. I'll balance that with I'm noticing more team aggression on the boards especially in the defensive zone which is good. We'll see how they look when they face a decent team but for now it's nice to finally have some solid victories. -
Haven't looked into the calculus, but the 1% point change for the SB line after the Detroit game makes me scratch my head.

VO is such a different kind of player from Greenway I'd rather they not if there is an option to throw a guy in there who will go to the net.

Haven't read the comments. My thoughts: We won two in a row! We did not deserve to win except for the fact that we were looonnnngg overdue to have one of our goalies legit steal a game and UPL did that. For the first time in a long time officiating seemed tilted in our favour. The first period was trash despite the goal. The Penguins schooled us on playing "aggressive" - hope our guys were paying attention. I think I saw a flicker of an attempt to actually create some net-front presence in the face of an aggressive full-team defense. I'd like to think they would take the mojo from this game and run with it, going on a little win streak without the epic losing streak following it. Clifton has been playing really well lately. Even Krebs looked like an NHL-er for a lot of the game. Who else is surprised Mule hasn't gone on LTIR after the past few games? Blocked shots - the quantity and quality is new since after Christmas. Where'd that come from? -

That was interesting. The Penguins were taking us to school, too. If we were on the opposite side of those challenges our uniforms would have spontaneously transformed into studded black leather, they'd all don eyeliner and mope around the rest of the game. The Penguins will simply get pissed. -
I liked Fubo when I had it as well. The cost is too high, now, for what they provide but the service was reliable.

Well, there you go. A game they should have was actually won by they. -
FWIW, I never said other players should be scared of Power generally, I said they should be scared to engage him. Very different. Let's not play with words to create a straw man. I understand the temptation to go full-Neanderthal when the words "scared" and "aggression" are used - I blame many things including the modern educational system. Let's knock that straw man down, shall we? How many first round picks have there been over the years who, by the time they were 21, were intimidating to engage? Are you suggesting there have never been players who, by the time they were 21, other, older players were concerned the 21 y/o player would out-maneuver, undress, out-think, out-muscle or simply out-hit them?
