His mistakes jump out because they're weak or boneheaded efforts by a defenseman who is decidedly lacking in defensive acumen. At his size he should scare the offense from coming near him but he's just the opposite: they don't mind engaging with him because they know they'll win the engagement. A guy that size shouldn't be wagging his stick at you from 7ft away. He plays with zero aggression which stands out like a lighthouse on a crag during a stormy night.

They could waive UPL as well and be doing themselves a favor. Waive Krebs and trade Power, too, since they're in the mood to act like a pro organization at the moment.

The book on UPL reads like this: first, he's a sieve, second, put the puck behind the net because the dude forgets he's guarding a net in an NHL game and will go for a long skate after the puck.

First goal UPL was on cloud nine behind the net. Second goal UPL gave us his breakaway special. In both cases he panicked. If he didn't it'd be tied at ZERO. PAY ATTENTION. (what a doosh thing to say)

If the goalie didn't have panic attacks during the game we'd at least tie it for a point. Which would be an improvement.

The excuse: young team learning to play back-to-back games on the road.

My conclusion on UPL is that he suffers from performance anxiety that he masks through concentration except for when the intensity/anxiety level elevates suddenly like during a break-away or the occurrence of something unexpected.
