Foligno has looked very good this year so far. Much better than I was giving him credit for last season. Makes me wonder what Eichel, Girgs, and Samson will be like in 3 or 4 years. -

Great play. D-lo is having a break out season. What is his ceiling, now? -

This is how I expected to see this team play from the start of the season. Better late than never. -

Ryan O'who? -
I like playing with a longer stick than a shorter one. For Eichel, don't forget he skates upright, so that characteristic alone will necessitate a long-ish stick. I think the long stick helps him steal the puck from behind a player, something we haven't seen any other Sabre do with consistency since I don't know when. Another thing with the sticks is the mechanics behind a shot: many times a stick is dragged along the ice, bending the shaft to create energy, which is released like a leaf spring at the moment of the shot's release. A longer stick makes this action easier to accomplish.

Franson spoiled his chance.

I would support this.

Pull the goalie! See, it works.

It's all a learning experience. Maybe the entire D should take the night off tomorrow to watch from the press box. I'm sure that will help.

Hmm, well then maybe it should be concerning he seems not to be much of a factor.

Weber made some good plays during that first. You'd be better off complaining about Gionta with his crappy entries and inability to get a shot on net. Or Franson's inability to clear the puck consistently.

Yay! Fun. If this is what it's going to be like, let it be a long one. In other news, why are Eichel's shifts so short?

Agreed. And their possession game is just yucky.

Eichel just had, like, a 10 second shift.

Foligno made the kicking motion with his right foot, the puck bounced off the defender's left foot, into Foligno's left foot, and then went into the net. I'm sure the pinball path the puck travelled was the cause for the review. My guess is, like a deflection off a leg or whatever where no other stick touches the puck before going in, the "shot" the causes the puck to eventually enter the net is what is scrutinized. So, since the "shot", in this case, was the kicking motion, they ruled it no goal. Which, I think, is fair. -

I've liked McGinn from the get-go. Big guy with some skill and able to keep up with the play for most part. Not a world-beater by any means, but a big body to match the oppositions big bodies and pot the puck once in a while. He's like their big, man-bear John Scott replacement. I said in my Xanax-inspired post in the Kane thread that his injury will force Bylsma to take a different approach to the lines. It seemed to work tonight. He'll have a better handle on how Kane fits in after Kane returns. -
Edmonton, as a team, has a little bit of a head start in their "rebuild" than we have. I'm sure Eichel's numbers would be better in this many games in that environment.

I thought D-lo did alright with Ennis and Ryan O'Who. So, yah, I agree, he should keep the lines stable for the week. -

Good game. Two major weak points being the soft goal on Johnson and Eichel's brain-farts during the second. Otherwise a relatively consistent game from start to finish. Hopefully Girgenson's goal will get the monkey off his back and he can start playing his game - I think he's been snake-bit up until today's OT. When there's real chemistry, you can see it developing. We're seeing real chemistry develop between Eichel and Reinhart. I'm not sure who should be the third-wheel on their line, but I suspect that Bylsma will throw Kane in with them (assuming he keeps that pair together) when Kane returns. I don't know WTH the league is trying to do, letting a lot of calls go. I wonder if there's some sort of dictum where lower-ranked teams are allowed to play sloppy because that's what they do, but I didn't like the boarding I saw from the Flyers sometime in the third that was let go. Glad to see Eichel caught the Flyer goon out of corner of his eye to avoid the hit. This was the kind of game I was waiting for where the opposition was clearly out to beat down Eichel. He seemed aware of that and pretty much avoided everything, but I'll be happy after this season when Eichel is a year older and wiser, and bigger and stronger and able to handle the riff-raff.
