We have cap room and a spot -- to get Tkachuk, what would you now give up?
... replied to _Q_'s topic in The Aud Club
Wait. Are you saying a player can have a no trade clause attached to their contracts? And that, because of this contract, even if both GMs (general managers) want to make a trade - the player has the final say? So, Kevyn Adams, the Sabres' GM (general manager) can't just make a trade because not only are other GMs involved, but the players subject to the trade are, too? -
Sabres Sign Jason Zucker to a One Year 5 Million AAV Deal

I'm skeptical of any idea that assigns a full time role to Lindy after this coaching stint. My guess is that he'll be ready to retire from full-time work after this. -

Although people around here are going to confuse his name with this guy's: -
@Taro T is being silly. How can I possibly be making anything up in what he quoted?

We tried three different pizzas from there at once to test them out given all of the hype. One was their Detroit. Based on the hype, pie sizes, and, maybe most importantly, the prices, we were not impressed. The Detroit was the best.
-
Is the pizza that good? Haven't tried it, yet? Detroit style pizzas around here are routinely small and overpriced but if they nail the execution I could excuse all of that. I like Resurgence but Pearl has some good beers, too. They were at the vanguard of the brewery/restaurant paradigm.

Well, the challenge here is that he hasn't played enough to determine whether he can be consistently good. Given that KA has handed out undeserved long-term contracts, it's likely KA has some good reasons to doubt signing UPL long term.
-
Right. Why, though? Is Adams undervaluing UPL or is UPL overvaluing himself? ☢ Speculation Warning ☢ Of course, the easy answer is that "it's likely a little of both" but I don't get that sense myself. The impression I have from UPL's interviews is that he is overvaluing himself. He's being a little impatient for a goalie who wasn't an apparent star from the start, IMHO. They'll all say this is part of the business but there's some tension there between UPL and Adams behind the scenes and I could easily see UPL wanting out sooner rather than later.
-
Then why go to arbitration?
-
It ensures he'll be traded at next trade deadline no matter what.
-
That's prolly why they overpaid: made the obvious circumstance worth agreeing to for Joki.

This seems like a pretty solid hockey trade. I wasn't aware of how fast the bottom six had become until this thread, so thanks, all, for the edumacation. Other than speed, deep playoff experience, and some good metrics, what excites me is that this trade means the Sabres really can't justify keeping Krebs in the lineup.

Are we really attributing Tommy Dangles' drop in production last season to an injury? Is that how fans are coping?

Wait, what is his tattoo? -
Only within the span of a day, even. It's a miracle.

Is Adams rebuild the Regier rebuild, just starting about 9 years later?
... replied to Taro T's topic in The Aud Club
I think it's obvious this is what they wanted to do but never thought the Sabres' market would actually revolt enough that ticket sales, among other sales, would drop to a critical level. Now they have themselves in a pickle and are likely trying to execute a hybrid plan where the playoffs are the goal (or, rather, placating the market is the goal, which equals the same thing), even if only the first round, while primarily still on the Regier plan. -
Button goes on Peters' show, though. He's like the Jim Cramer of the NHL.

Based on the fancy stats of the players we got and the possibilities suggested by those fancy stats, I'm not disappointed in the way the bottom six was re-tooled. I fully expect Krebs and Kulich to compete for the 3C position, assuming Krebs isn't traded away (which I hope he is). If Krebs doesn't win it he literally has no role on this roster. As others have noted, we now have Lindy, which between the bottom six changes and Lindy's system, such as it may be, we will be a completely different team before even considering our top six. The top six won't change excepting perhaps the addition of a big gun - if available at a price Adams can swallow. Without Skinner, both lines ought to be more responsible outside their zone generally, and, generally, the offensive zone production ought to pick up from last season's regression, especially if you include a healthy Quinn. Lindy's influence ought to change how they execute in the offensive zone; ideally establishing a more consistent net-front presence and a (dare I add "substantially") improved PP. We knew Adams likes his top six and I don't disagree we ought to expect more out of them than we saw last year, therefore not shocked or upset that, so far, a big gun addition hasn't manifested. Even without such an addition, I expect improvements. The D has been set since the trade deadline, so no surprises there. Goal-tending shook out over the course of last season so, again, no surprises there. Are we a Stanley Cup team? You never know, likely not. Are we a playoff bound team? I think it's reasonable, even as things stand right now, to have that expectation.
-
Everyone needs to brace themselves for the presser on today. Adams will say they filled positions of need, mainly across the bottom six. He'll say the top six doesn't have a problem generating offense, even despite last season's regression, and therefore he didn't need to worry about adding top six players if no "deals" were to be had. "We think we are definitely tougher to play against now, and our top lines will be free from having to execute duties outside of their expected roles."

Sabres Sign Jason Zucker to a One Year 5 Million AAV Deal

Mitts is not a 3C. See: Colorado Avalanche. I don't make roster decisions for the Sabres so it doesn't matter who I think our 3C could be, but it wouldn't surprise me if KA is banking on Kulich taking that roll. And, no, I don't know what he does with Krebs. I hope Krebs is jettisoned from the team so people stop being distracted by his presence. -

In a grotesque way, I'm kind of glad this is how that transformation occurs. I maintain that committing to Mitts would have been the wrong move for this Sabres roster. -

He'll be expected to move between the second and fourth lines, depending on need. KA: "guys who can do that don't come cheap."
