Agree entirely. I can accept losing to superior teams as we just aren’t there yet. I just can’t feel good about losing to a superior team when we did more to beat ourselves than the opposing team did to beat us. Up two and we gave the game away. There’s a reason why we lead the league in most two goal leads given up and that leaves no room for moral victories.

Assistant Coach under Lindy in charge of defense. Damn fine coach, well liked and well respected. A player’s coach. Took over as HC for a few games in 2012 when Lindy was injured. He’s a good one.

I am not pleased in the least. We gave this game away on several bad turnovers that directly led to goals. Glad we can play a good team tough and perhaps I’d feel better about that if we didn’t make it so easy for them.

Power may not be very physical at this stage, but he’s consistent in making the smart play with the puck. Plays with a ton of poise.

Agreed. And nobody has GM experience until they have GM experience. I think that can only come with time. But KA has a ton of hockey experience and that counts for something. Like knowing what a good coach looks like and what’s important in the locker room for instance.

Nice listen. I was hoping they’d ask him what he thought about Eichel’s comments on the Chris Weidman podcast when Eichel claimed that the Sabres’ doctors originally agreed with the ADR and then reneged. Then again, I doubt KA would have any comment on that as the Sabres were pretty tight lipped while Eichel and his original agent chose to air their grievances in public. Personally, I think Eichel is completely full of crap in his assertion that the Sabres medical staff was ever onboard with the ADR procedure.

Good stuff. What strikes me about Carolina is that every one of them plays the game exactly like Brind’Amour played it. Every. One.

The idea that Gilmore can’t play zone coverage schemes is wrong. He’s played them his entire career with each team he has been with; from Wannstedt to Pettine to Schwartz to Rex to Belichick, all of whom employed various zone coverage schemes in addition to man coverage. He happens to be very good at both, but lock down man coverage guys are rare, he’s one of the best to play it and so people tend to only focus on that aspect of his game. All that said, he seems to be in decline as a player.

I’ve been among his biggest critics at times this season so I’m very glad he’s making a liar out of me.

I was worried about the letdown after Friday night. Guys gotta learn it’s just as important to shake off big wins as much as it is to shake off big losses.

I’m gonna see if my theory about Granato holds true. He has said that part of the growing process for young players is knowing how to pace yourself, to know when to go bore and not just go all out all the time. Kind of a rope a dope if you will. I’m thinking he’s instructing the boys to pace themselves this period, let FLA expend some energy on the back to back, and then push the pace again in the third. He seems to have done this before.

The incremental maturation process needs to continue. Friday, they showed they can close a game out vs a good team. Today, they need to show they have moved on from Friday’s amazing high and avoid the kind of letdown a night like Friday can lead to. Same goes for the fans that attend. Let’s keep showing these guys what they’ve been missing.
