There are two transmission towers close to the bridge which appear to protection around them.

I’m surprised the dolphins are not federally mandated after the Sunshine Skyway Bridge accident in 1980, when 35 people died after a freighter hit the bridge during a storm

Those little round white dots in the pic above are the dolphins.

It’s a total fluke. Look at all that space under the bridge. The vast majority of the time, any out of control vessel would miss the support and go right under*.

*I haven’t look closely enough, but on my tiny phone screen it looked like the bridge was taller than the boat.

Bridge had 185 feet of clearance above the water so there was plenty of room for the Dali to pass under it.

Well, those 6 immigrants working on bridge paving wouldn’t have died if we didn’t let them in.

    or something like that.

It’s dangerous in a way, but I have become more or leas deaf to what the MAGA crowd has to say these days.  The crazy can only be absorbed for so long.

The danger is becoming deaf to the point of ignoring it completely. We are reliving the 1930s but there are more outlets for the mass dissemination of their lies and propaganda. It is a clear and present danger to our democracy and it is our duty to stay vigilant.

Aggregator of mock drafts has moved back towards the Bills' most likely picks at 28 being WR, then Edge, then Edge again. Not sure what positions/names would appear if the site listed more than the top 3 mocked choices.

Thomas won’t be there at 28 and neither of those two edge guys is worth the pick, imo, but if they insist on grabbing one, I’d rather have Robinson. But given the scarcity of edge rushers in this draft, he may not be there as well.

Its design was ancient. Total lack of safety measures vs modern bridges.

The bridge design itself was fine, but the dolphins placed in the water to protect the piers from impact weren’t designed to handle the sheer size of modern day vessels compared to the ships in the 70s.

The rudder is so huge, it'd require a ton of people to even come close to moving it, and cargo ships don't have a big crew, either, maybe like 20-30 people. I think I heard 100,000 tons, which is the same as the current US aircraft carriers which carry around 5000 crew. It doesn't stop on a dime, either.

It sounds weird with all the Boeing stuff, but if ships were built like planes this may not have happened. There'd be requirements for separate control systems and redundant power for this reason. This was a worst-case scenario, though; it happened at one of few places where the damage is spectacular. Most of the time if the ship lost power like this, it would run aground or be adrift in endless ocean. It was a really unlucky day.

The Dali weighs 95,000 tons when empty. It had 4,700 containers on board and while we will have to wait for the official manifest records to be released, media reports yesterday were that the ship weighed 155,000 tons when it left port. In an interview, a ship pilot said that even at the slow 9mph it was traveling at the time would, it have needed a couple miles to come to a stop. Talk about inertia.

They are paying Cozens to be 2C.   Right or wrong, they won't be moving him down the lineup

I doubt they are letting salary dictate where Cozens plays. Right or wrong, good or bad, he’s one of our two best centers currently and the construction of the current team is dictating where he plays.

Sorry, but this is like saying once McDavid hit a certain point total in the NHL that there was nothing left he can improve on at the NHL level. It’s just flawed. Savoie’s a smart kid I think, there was lots he had an opportunity to improve on playing a final year of junior.

It’s not like saying that in the least.

Was he sufficiently challenged enough to improve the facets of his game that needed improvement most by playing in a league that clearly didn’t challenge him enough? The WHL was too easy for him and he would have been better served by being able to stay in the A.

But never mind as we’ve been down this road before and I have no interest in rehashing the subject. We disagree. ‘Nuff said.

    Rod Brind’amour

He’d be the perfect coach for the next phase in our development. And Skinner would never see the lineup, his big contract be damned. Pegs and KA should put in a full court press if he becomes a free agent.

Savoie ends his regular season with 71 points in 34 games

his 2.09 pts/gm was the leagues best

think a lot of us are sleeping on how good this player is already

He will either have a long trip towards the Memorial Cup or be an integral part of the Amerks playoff push

Taking nothing away from his impressive accomplishment in the WHL this season, but I question how much a player can really improve his game in a league that couldn’t challenge him enough. I think his five points in six games in the A earlier this season is more reassuring to me that he is on the right developmental track.
