I think team speed is an admirable goal, but it shouldn't be the only goal. You need good players even if they aren't speed demons. Vanek was always a good "pick your spots" skater with the hands to make it work. Until he's as ineffective as Jagr he's worth having.

I feel like the style we're looking for is "scores a buttload of goals". This team isn't going to be a playoff team this year. Until we develop goal scorers from within we need *something*. Vanek is the perfect short term solution until someone can push him out. Dude could snipe beaucoup goals on Eichel's wing. You'd forget you ever hated the idea by December.

For my money, the Sharks make the most sense for Tavares and I think he would go there.

I think a certified #1C is more important than a #1D, but I think in the context of building a team, those are two spots you need filled either way. Build around those two players however you want, but you need those two players before you can really do anything.
