Twice a year I forget how to change the clock in my car.

You hope they can get a 1st for him, its going to depend on If he can show that his numbers weren't inflated by playing with Tavares and that he is as good as his numbers show, something the Islanders believed not to be true. Plus, the closer you get to the deadline, the less they might be able to get because he is a UFA and might just be a short term rental for someone. If he continues to play like he did on monday though, I have no doubt Buffalo could get a 1st for him, and Garth Snow is in way over his head
Even if his numbers are completely inflated by playing with Tavares, I'm not so sure that would ultimately hurt his value. Say a team like Vancouver comes calling and wants to pair him up with the Sedins. Knowing that he can produce with a top end center would be more than enough information for them.

If you have the percentage and you have the goals, you oughtta be able to come up with the shot totals in about 10 seconds.
Someone from RIT who can't do simple math. How is this possible?

Let us take a look at 2009 to present. In 2009 Matt Moulson finally made the permanent transition from the AHL to the NHL which is the reason I am starting with that year. I am not counting this seasons stats so it ends with the regular season stats of the 2012/2013 season.
From 2009-2013:
Thomas Vanek - 106g, 122a, for 228pts
Matt Moulson - 112g, 102a, for 214pts
What this seems to equate to is that we traded Vanek's goal scoring prowess for better goal scorer with less assists plus we added picks. Now in the media and around the board a lot ppl have said that Tavares has inflated Moulson's numbers and that he is a average player who will see a big drop in his production. Until that does indeed happen, which I think is unlikely given how Hodgson passes, it seems Moulson may give us a little more in the goals department but overall Darcy got a very similar player back. Now obviously they have different styles of play but this trade is very interesting given that we saw Moulson's scoring already and the instant chemistry he generated with Hodgson.

So does this mean you think this was a bad deal? Because the Islanders probably don't do it without this stipulation. It just saves them the immediate embarrassment of absolutely stinking it up and then losing Vanek AND a top 10 pick in one offseason. Teams know what the pick stipulation is.
You don't know what a pick's TRUE value is until either the end of the season or at the draft lottery. That's well after the deadline. Picks are potential with no defined value.
And if the Islanders fail this year and it does wind up as a top 10 pick, they'll Tavares won't have Moulson or Vanek on his wing next year. Who knows how or if they replace that.

I like your avatar much more than you :P
I don't know, she looks like she has a freakishly large left arm and a tiny right one.
-
But can't they send him down (which involves waiving him) for the rest of the year and then buy him out? That would accomplish the "send the message" goal.
It could, but do you want to poison the young guys in Rochester if you do think he's that bad of an influence? For what it's worth, I was reading into all of these "waive him" comments as people wanting it done for an outright release.

So, John Farrell, who the fans thought was a terrible manager and was let out of his contract in Toronto to take his dream job, is one win away from winning the World Series as a manager.
Was he let out of the contract or did they get some form of compensation from Boston?
-
He'll never be waived. It makes no sense when they can just wait until the offseason, use a buyout, and have his cap hit completely removed. Some may say we could flirt with the cap floor with that and a few other moves, but I don't see that happening.

BUF retained approx $1.4M, give or take a few thousand $, or roughly 20 per cent of Thomas Vanek's remaining salary, as part of NYI trade.
As per @TSNBobMcKenzie Buf retains roughly $1.4 mil of Vanek's salary. Sabres offered Vanek to Toronto along with willingness to eat salary.
Vanek offer to Leafs was made 3-4 days ago, but, told there was no deal to be made.
So now Buffalo can only retain salary in one more trade this year.
-
A few things to think about when we talk about how easy it is to move a player.. especially one who will be a UFA at year's end.
The Sabres have $8mm in cap space, the Isles have $11mm in cap space. If they are going nowhere they could offer Vanek to another team and absorb 50% of the cap hit (isn't that the max?) for the other team. So a team with $3.5mm of cap space wants Vanek? No problem. The Isles retain $3.5mm in salary and the other team trades them $1mm in salary and boom.. Vanek is gone.
The Sabres can do the same with Moulson, but more importantly, they cleared $3+mm in cap space by moving Vanek. Why does this matter? Because now they can eat a full 50% of Miller's contract to move him to another team who wouldn't want to take on his $6.1mm hit.
It is important to remember that there are cumulative limits to how much money you can retain in trades and also how many times you can do it (can only retain money from 3 traded contracts at the same time). This is going to get in the way sooner or later if we keep saying "trade this guy and retain XX% of his salary". We've already got Pominville on the books, so we can only take on money from two more players.

How about Moulson-Man with beer bottle avatar? I know...it's not the same spelling. :)
While we're talking about different spellings, we need to trade him to Montreal. Moulson Canadien would be perfect.
-
If they do try to sign Moulson, I wonder how much weight being closer to home will carry with him.
-
That and Marty is talking as if he is a part of the Sabres organization already. I can live with that.ANOTHER Sabres goalie chimes in:
Having played with Matt Moulson, I can tell you that he is a pure goal scorer. Sad to see Vanek go but this is very good for the Sabres.
And if the Islanders don't make the playoffs there's slightly better lottery odds.Gracias.
So, two second rounders in the next two drafts, and (for now) two first rounders in the most immediate draft, one being a top 5 pick? I like that, a lot.
Hard to believe Darcy won't package that 2nd rounder and that Isles first to move up a little if the opportunity is there.
-
It has to be. He's actually older than Vanek. This almost feels like the first half of a three-way deal.
-
Moulson's numbers have been good for a while so I think he should still fetch something for us by the trade deadline.
I'd also expect them to do it sooner rather than later because Moulson really doesn't make much sense with the rebuild.
-
Just picture Vanek now that he will be skating with an elite center. This is going to be fun to watch.Of course it would be less than Pommers as Vanek has less than a year left and everyone and their grandmothers know he's signing with the wild. Question is, why would the Isles make this trade? They're giving up a guy who put up 30 goal seasons in each of the last 3 full years. Plus their 1st and 2nd? I think we came out on top because now we can still flip Moulson at the deadline if need be.
-
And unfortunately, now that he is Tavares-free, he won't continue at his early pace this year and his value will drop.Yep.
-
I don't like this one. Moulson is the same age as Vanek and a UFA at the end of the year as well. They could have done much better. That said, I think Moulson will be shipped out by the deadline as well.

Writeup on Compher tearing it up in the B1G to start the season.
Compher has five assists in four games as a freshman and Michigan is 3-0-1.
Hmmm, Michigan has back to back games against MA this week (BU and Lowell). Might have to check that out if it makes it on local tv.
-
Looking at it from the other side, Buffalo is one of only 3 teams (Jags, Bucs) to not score more than 24 points in any game this season. I think it's crazy that every single game has been 20-24 points this far into the season.
This probably helps Vegas a lot when setting an over/under.

Is anyone ever in the Bills store? My aunt is turning 70 next month and she's a die hard Bills fan. I'm pretty much sold on the fact that I have to get her something Eric Wood thanks to his number. The jersey prices are a bit ridiculous though, so I'm wondering how likely it would be to get a name/number t-shirt for him. Online they only have the key guys like Manuel and Williams.

I couldn't believe this until I looked it up. 10.3 million for Breaking Bad finale. 16.1 million for The Walking Dead season 4 premiere. As a fan of both shows, this blows my mind as not only is Breaking Bad an exponentially better show (imo), it was the series finale! Maybe Walter White should come back to life and eat some meth-head brains for season 6.
Keep in mind that American Idol was the top rated TV show in the entire country for several years. People are dumb.

They look awesome, except for that logo.
And they're just sitting on this alternate, which would just about perfect that set.
What's the story on that one? I kind of wish it didn't have the D, but otherwise it's some good work.

I miss wildcat and his updates when the team was in Portland. I have no idea what is happening with this team now. How is there not some writer out of Rochester who would do the same thing here?
