I've been thinking about bumping it too. It's odd how little talk there has been going into the start of this season. All of that prison hype from last year and now nothing.

I am very interested to see how both NY and Vancouver do.
They benched the kid the last 8 minutes....that makes more sense now. Seriously....we are in a punka$$ world when that is glorified. I can't believe Marty didn't spear him in the nads.
I'm not surprised by this. I caught the tail end of an interview with a San Jose player on the radio a day or two after the play (I turned it on late, so I missed which player it was). He hinted that the Sharks bench wasn't too crazy about him doing it.

It's getting heavy in here....
Prayers for everyone.
I've got two of the greatest people I know, downtrending with health, big time. That's why there's booze. At least, 1 of the top 10 reasons.....
Yes, luckily I have a decent escape right around the corner. I'm off to CT tomorrow for a wedding. That's right, the two greatest words in the english language: OPEN. BAR.
Two days of it. I should be all set. Then I get to do another one next weekend. Goodbye liver.

Very sorry to hear this Shrader. Keep it together and keep going one step at a time and things will get better. And medical science for infants is pretty amazing these days.
I actually work with pediatric heart research and have worked with a couple doctors at the hospital the baby is at. I don't know them all that well, but at least through work I should be able to pull some strings and get her the best surgeon possible. It is a condition that is very correctable and shouldn't cause many longterm issues, so at least that much is good.

My dog Houdini'd his harness on the way home from his walk when something spooked him; takes off running, gets clipped by a car, does a tumble, skids and tears off all his pads on his paws then takes off running for another 3 miles with me in hot persuit. Never take the dog for a walk in flip flops! Kicked off the flip flops and chased him bare foot through the city of Wilkes Barre. Lost him for about a mile and a half the found him running on the d.y.k.e. to the Susquehanna river. Caught up with him when his poor feet couldn't take him any farther, carried my poor puppy all the way home then to the vet where they told me he's basically one tough little SOB. So he's healing up and I'm searching for the driver of the car that never even slowed down when my dog put a serious dent in his car, cause I'm planning on denting his face. Who doesn't stop? I'm not expecting anything from you! Stopping is the least you can do. Its not like I need your fat lazy ass to help me search for him. A stop and an apology is all (yes I realize its not the drivers job to apologize, but its the decent thing to do).
This all happened last Friday and Bodhi goes back to the vet tomorrow for his checkup and hopefully everything is as good as it looks. His pads are growing back slowly but surely and he is in much higher spirits the past 3 days.
I still hope the driver of the other car has his dick turn black and fall off. But then again, I'm vengeful and not a very nice person.
On to today: Furnace needs a $300 repair!! ###### me!
Edit: I can't say d.y.k.e.? Its infrastructure terminology.
Isn't the driver legally required to stop when they hit a dog? I was always under that impression. I hope you have a photographic memory and you've got that plate number. I'd gladly donate a good baseball bat to your cause.

I guess that means the FIL has taken a turn for the worse. :(
He's in the hospital on one side of the street for a procedure on his lungs. His new granddaughter that was just born this week is in the hospital on the other side of the street getting ready for treatment for a heart defect.

I'm late to the party...just saw the goal now. The first thing I did was head to the boxscore to see how many fights there were the rest of the game.
Unbelievable. Up 8-2, you have 3 goals, you're 19, and you pull that? I'm sure Torts was smiling.....
It's almost like they actually gave him a free pass since he's just a dumb kid. Other teams are going to keep an eye on him from now on.
-
Talking and smiling, probably.
That and looking at the scoreboard and thinking "why bother".
-
The kid's lucky he doesn't get pounded for doing that during a game.
-
Quick shot one into his own net back when he was at UMASS. I unfortunately can't find much of anything when it comes to his college highlights on youtube.

My guess is Freeman will be wearing a Buffalo by Sunday.
It seems like a no brainer at this point. He gets a 1 year deal to try to prove himself for a new team next year and he gets to play right away.
-
Tropp has to clear waivers. Über conservative Darcy won't risk losing him, I could see him come down on a conditioning assignment.
Yeah, he'll definitely get a few rehab games in at Rochester before the final decision is made on his status with the big club.

Manuel went ginger last week and slid 2 yards before the 1st to protect himself. He wasn't going to make the same mistake and it cost him this time.
The worst part is that he's right on the sideline and all he has to do is step out. He took the JP Losman sack against the Jets by running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage, so he knows how to run out. And since he's right along the line of scrimmage, he had to have known he was already past the stick.
It seems like these young QBs always learn this lesson the hard way. They always want to push for that extra yard and wind up paying for it. I hope he got the message last night.
-
So they pretty much have to make a move on Josh Freeman at this point, right? They lost that game last night because they don't have a pro QB (NFL, CFL, or any other level) on their roster. I don't like pinning a loss on any single play usually, but this time I'm comfortable with it. Tuel was about as bad as humanly possible. The team's refusal to have a veteran QB on roster did them in last night. Fortunately the timing is just about right to have a very decent option available to fix that.

I saw some crazy police action on my drive home from work yesterday. Cop cars were swarming from every direction and some were even driving on the sidewalks. This was all near one of the big subway stops, so I wonder if something happened there. At one point, a cop even signaled to me to pull up onto the sidewalk to clear his path. My complaint though is that I can't find anything about what was happening.

It might be time for a new politics thread.

i'll be there friday. what i've seen is very, very nice.
full marks to the sabres, and, as chz indicates, praise, honor, and glory to the woman who'd be my girlfriend if'n she weren't married ... and if'n she hadn't taken out restraining orders on me in 3 states ... and installed those damn motion sensors at their florida home.
Did you ever get those binoculars I sent you? They've got some crazy zoom.

Well, management has come out and said that the player in question (Zibanejad) "let two players come into camp and take his job." So they're styling it as play-/merit-based.
Could you imagine the backlash if they actually came out and stated it was a cap management decision?
-
In an apparent cost-cutting move (they were already at 23 players), the Senators have assigned the 6th overall pick from 2011 to their AHL affiliate.

We may debate the pros and cons of our owner's actions and motives, but at least we don't have to deal with this sort of sh!t.
I have no problem with it. I don't see the point in sending two forwards up to the press box on any given night (or two d-men, as I've mentioned earlier). Send one of them down to the AHL where he can play each night. At the same time, you bank a little extra cap space for the future. You never know how injuries and future trades are going to impact things.
Even if Ottawa is way below the cap, the extra space may come in very handy later in the year.
-
I've been noticing it here in Rochester too. All over 390/490/590 this week.
Meanwhile the cops out here join in with everyone else on the road and run every red light (no flashers on either).

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 3m
Tim Thomas and FLA have contract terms in place, signing will occur once FLA ownership change is official, perhaps today or tomorrow.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 1m
If it's done today, Thomas could be in lineup for pre-season game tonight. Deal, when signed, will be 1 year, AAV likely between $3M-$4M.
Tim Thomas I guess will be the Panthers #1? Not really sure how goaltending will work in Sunrise now.
Derek Stepan gets new 2yr bridge deal
Derek Stepan had a new 2 year deal with the NYR.
Markstrom will head back to the minors for one last year the second Clemmensieve is healthy. I feel like it's just about the perfect way to handle most young goalies. Give them the full 4 years they're allowed at the AHL level. There's no sense in rushing them.
-
7:30AM conference calls. I'm sure PM sucks too, but the latest I've ever had is 6PM.
-
He can only be called up this season under emergency circumstances if I'm remembering that correctly.
Or once his junior season is over. At that point though a team is going to put a guy in the AHL so as not to waste a year of that contract.

I for one am sick of all of these moral victories.
