Good god, why would you turn your head to watch a drop pass when you know there is a defenseman right on you?
Why would that be roughing? He got hit in the chest.

Two years ago I was super down on his offensive game. He had a beer league shot that hit the keeper in the middle of a chest every time. It was comical. I thought he turned the corner last year, but maybe that really was an outlier.

FTG.
I was thinking of the Brian Gionta years. Not that Iโm singling him out, but thatโs the era where I think we were a very low skilled hockey team.

Late third period. Our defensive zone. Failure to clear a puck for over 2 minutes. ย
ยThe 5 Sabres did not pressure the puck. ย That means pressure the man with the puck to force a turnover. ย They formed a box and tried to cut off passing and shooting lanes. ย They failed to clear on two chances. Tage was one of them. ย Isnโt that the comment? ย
Not really. My comment was that there were several times when we had possession of the puck and all we needed to do was make a Calm play and fail to do so. I think it was Samuelson that tried to ring the puck all the way around on the glass that was easily gloved down at the point. Tage had the puck easily on his stick and he tried to make it off the boards and it was stopped. I think JJ tried to do the exact same thing. None of these plays required pressure or long sticks. We already had the puck and we werenโt under any pressure.

Been complaining about our lack of poise in the D end all season. Too many un-poised, unnecessary panic plays, especially by our D when if theyโd just take an extra half tick to make the calm, simple play theyโd get out of trouble. Dahlin is really the only guy we have who does this more often than not.
Itโs certainly much better than in the past where the โSabres try to clear but itโs kept in the zoneโ was an in-game go to phrase. However, there were some really noticeable times when the puck needed to get out of the zone and a spectacular play was not needed. Just an average run of the mill one and they spit the bit.ย

Agree. ย They were not pressuring the puck enough, too much waiting. ย
ยMissing Greenway and Tuch and the long sticks they bring. ย
It doesnโt feel like weโre talking about the same thing.ย

The one weak spot in an unexpectedly joyous evening, was the amount of panic we had in our defensive zone in the third period.
So many guys had complete control of the puck and then decided to ring it around the boards on the glass or failed to get out of his own like Tage did the one time and there was one prior to that too by JJ I think.
Those pucks need to get out.

Levi needs games. I think giving him games in Rochester and giving him spot callups the next couple months is the way to go. If Comrie or UPL. Implode then you can reconsider.ย
Itโs hard to say Comrie has not imploded. If he was ever deploded in the first place.

Since it was a response to me, I should respond. My memory os of a guy who was decent, but always hurt who had a propensity to let in goals from the top of the circle or farther.

I donโt really complain about sports personalities. They are whatever. However, Howard itโs not a smart man worth listening to. And thatโs putting it kindly. Him and Ray would be worthy opponents in hangman.

He was spewing some juicy rebounds... but the Sabres didn't capitalize.ย They scored on straight up shots though, so it's okay.
This is how I remember him. Letting in shots that he could see from mid range.

I think they are all good pieces. But they aren't complete enough to carry anything.ย
The goal for the next season should be to move Greenway and even Tuch to the 3rd line. That doesn't meaning let Kulich struggle on the wing to find his NHL game. That means immediately upgrading those two positions in the top 6. Those two guys have the skill set to play that line, and they can put pucks in the net.
A pipe dream would be to do it internally. Something like:ย
Skinner - Thompson - Cozens
JJP - Mitts - BensonยGreenway - ??? - Tuch
If you can get some return on Skinner you could move JJP up and if Quinn finds his game he can play the second line.ย
