Ellis is basically at the point in his career where Levi will be a year from now. He spent a couple of years in the ECHL, in part, because the Blues had Lindgren and Hofer in the AHL. He has not been considered at Levi's level as a prospect, but I still prefer giving him a chance to going with Georgiev. Also, at the risk of dumping on Adams for everything, just looking at all of the goalies who have hit waivers in the last 48 hours (Ellis, DiPietro, Sogaard, Primeau), it seems like Georgiev was a panic move.
-
now 4 ... Colton Ellis baby LOL... nothing surprises me with these incompetents... like literally nothing...
-
Makes sense. I’m assuming he’s a guy the scouting department was high on and they don’t think Georgiev is the answer.
-
Entirely possible. But he'd still have been far and away their best goalie since Miller (and briefly, strictly by the numbers, Lehner -- if he'd been able to keep himself healthy off the ice). 40 healthy games of Ullmark, with ....Anderson?... as a backup and hot Levi to finish, gets them in 2022-23.

It's estimated that Brady gave up at least $60 million with some sources estimating it at over $100 million versus what he could have demanded with NE. -
Is there another team with 7 goalies on NHL contracts? Seriously asking. I think most teams run with 4 or 5.

Sabres Waiver Claim Colten Ellis

He has eyes and saw Georgiev’s preseason, so I bet he expected it. In all seriousness, I think Darth nailed it that he will backup Lyon while UPL is out and hit waivers again. The perfect spot for Ellis is in the AHL owning a crease like Levi is doing. Ellis only 64 AHL starts in his career. Good for his wallet that he isn’t and I hope his fresh start turns him into Dom reincarnated. -
Does it help, maybe in setting a number range... but does it really with Kaprizov and McD off the market does this make him one of the if not the Premium FA out there in 2026.... I think he tests the market... just my guess...
-
I think it’s an attempt at an insurance policy for both UPL and Levi. UPL cannot stay healthy and Levi and Ellis are unproven

The ultimate goal of winning the cup isn’t naive, but acting like you don’t have to achieve a multitude of smaller building blocks of success in the immediate term, first, is utter hubris. The sabres have sacrificed the now with the goal of a dynasty. Which is backwards - they’ve always needed to prioritize and achieve success in the now so as to facilitate the future they want They’ve literally ingrained the idea that “this season was never about winning anyway” - they’ve made that the standard.

McJesus doesn’t want to be the bad guy and leave next summer but he is preparing the Edmonton fans for a farewell. Crosby has been making $8.7M for the last 10 years. -
This is exactly what I think... we dont have an NHL caliber starter, we arent gonna go get one, lets go buy 50 pull tabs and hope we hit a 2 dollar winner...
-
Frankly I'll always believe Ullmark would of just continued to get hurt in Buffalo; completely unscientific but just a gut feeling.
-
Frankly I also thought they needed scoring help and that was before moving JJ. The moves definitely made with an eye towards, “if all goes right, we can scratch 8th” rather than, “things would have to torpedo for us to miss” I personally believe a team that’s missed for one and a half decades straight deserved the latter approach
-
The Adams approach to goaltending... ...for a franchise that had Hasek and Miller for 20 seasons. And Ullmark ready to go for five more.

Sabres Waiver Claim Colten Ellis

TP is gonna be p****d if Georgiev and Bryson are waived after signing NHL contracts. KA foolishly throwing his money in the toilet. -
I wonder what Levi thinks of this move.
-
Gotta have an Ellis in the organization at all times
-
I hope it means Georgiev never sees the light of day in blue and gold. It probably means that they are absolutely desperate and they just hope something sticks.

It's the "Reverse Reimer" from last year. Ellis' numbers are lightyears ahead of Luukkonen's... in the AHL. They'll waive him back to St. Louis in a month unless he's just a lights-out goalie. I guess they don't want to risk having Levi play in the NHL this season and accumulate games accrued toward losing waivers exemption. But, hopefully this (temporarily) solves the issue that Adams cannot ever solve. Luukkonen to IR, play Lyon, waive Georgiev to the AHL where if he doesn't report, no worries and no loss. Roll two goalies and keep Levi marinating for later.

McDavid signed that deal as a symptom of the fact Bowman specifically *didn’t* do a good job. What do you think the deal and term looks like if the Oilers had won a cup? So Bowman failing to craft a team worthy of the talents of McDavid results in him signing an even better deal? Doesn’t make any sense. It’s purely a commentary on McDavid choosing to give the team one more small chance. Any GM in Edmonton would have gotten the same deal, as it’s a McDavid call - - - *obviously* the oilers would be after a long term deal if they could get it. The, what, 6-8 million they are saving for 2 years is a *small pittance* relative to the potential lost income from losing said best player in the world that the franchise would see in ticket sales and marketing should they let him get away. “They’ll save some salary cap for 2 years” is myopic. Not to mention, McDavid is 28 not 38 lol. They’d need to be exploring dealing him at 30 should this window not pan out. “Best years” is rich when I’d imagine McDavid’s trajectory would compare much more likely to Sid Crosby’s and his *best* years were arguably in his 30s
