I like the 2 year part. Kalinin has 2 years to prove he can be consistent. If not, the Sabres move him. If he turns it around, they can try and extend his contract before he becomes a UFA.

 

Let's see what happens with Miller now.

Just what I was thinking - giving him two years starts the clock ticking for both sides - if Kalinin wants to hit the big bucks on the FA market, he needs to get his game in order and bring it every night, not just when he feels like it; likewise, the Sabres get two more years at a reasonable salary to determine if he is worth extending before he hits FA, or if they need to cut bait and move him. Plus, $2M is a reasonable salary for someone to take on in a trade, if necessary.

 

Good job, Darcy - now get Ryan locked up signed ASAP!
