nfreeman
I'm wondering whether 2 years, as opposed to 3 or 4, was the team's choice (b/c of his inconsistent play for the past couple of seasons) or Dmitri's (so he could get rich as a UFA sooner)? LabattBlue
I like the 2 year part. Kalinin has 2 years to prove he can be consistent. If not, the Sabres move him. If he turns it around, they can try and extend his contract before he becomes a UFA. Let's see what happens with Miller now.
Bmwolf21
I like the 2 year part. Kalinin has 2 years to prove he can be consistent. If not, the Sabres move him. Just what I was thinking - giving him two years starts the clock ticking for both sides - if Kalinin wants to hit the big bucks on the FA market, he needs to get his game in order and bring it every night, not just when he feels like it; likewise, the Sabres get two more years at a reasonable salary to determine if he is worth extending before he hits FA, or if they need to cut bait and move him. Plus, $2M is a reasonable salary for someone to take on in a trade, if necessary. Good job, Darcy - now get Ryan locked up signed ASAP!

FearTheReaper
Im glad to see kalinin is signed,if he picks up where he left off in the playoffs,he do just fine.I love the way he played in the playoffs,he's not afraid to jump into the play and he holds his own in battles along the boards
