Mattias Samuelsson cleared concussion protocol as of Nov 29

Not seeing much intent from Meier’s perspective.  Mattias basically skated directly into his elbow.  Maybe there is more intent than I perceive. The way his arm behaves after contact doesn’t look like someone throwing an appendage to cause damage.

True.  BUT you are supposed to be in control of yourself and your equipment.  Meier decided to go into that engagement backwards which is why his elbow was up at Samuelsson's head level.

There was nothing malicious there, but you can't elbow guys in the head intentionally or unintentionally.  And he didn't just catch his head, he was coming in with a full head of steam and Muel was unable to return.  It should've at least been a 2 minute penalty and because of the exploding nose and the potential concussion issues, personally expect it should've been a major.

I think I’d be mad if they called that a penalty if a Sabre did the same thing.

They call Dahlin often for his reverse check when he's got the puck.  It'd be just like that.

I disagree. I think intent is there because players know exactly where their appendages are. Sammy did not skate into his elbow so much as Timo made a calculated decision that to drive through "high" would result in a low chance of a penalty being called.

"We" provide the benefit of the doubt, but then we read stories about how professionals understand the "minutia" and I think that applies here.

Glad he's okay.. strange routing for him, but he has been very good. Even if he did get the proverbial officiating finger tonight on the penalty called against him.

I don’t have an issue with Meier’s hit. I’d like to see the Sabres throw more chicken wings out there. I do have an issue with the lack of response. If your teammate is down and bleeding, you jump the guy. Even if you take a licking.

Sadly, despite all the hub bub about their lack of response to just about everything (mostly stemming from Noesen’s hit on Tage last season, which ironically Tage settled against NJ), this is still the same team full of non responders.  It can’t be a decision making process. It needs to be instant unbridled rage.  The kind that gets you 17 minutes in penalties because you lose your *****.  Dahlin being out there (again) when it happens and stick taps are the response is pathetic.  Does the teams attitude stem from his indifference?  Just looking for answers.

It didn't end up on camera, but Dahlin did actually give Meier a couple of cross checks after the play.  Yes, that's all he did, but honestly don't see him EVER getting into a fight; he isn't that guy that'll drop the gloves.  And, no, it wasn't enough of a response.  Not in any shape or form.  But it wasn't AS pathetic as people are making it out to be.  MHO.  YMMV.

yep and most on here do not want us playing a goon on the 4th line. They really need a fighter as Tage nor Dahlin should be fighting. This elbow was without a doubt 5 and a game...end of story. As long as we do not use anyone who can fight teams will continue to do this kind of crap without worry...

Goons aren’t the answer. I’m as blood thirsty as the next guy but the Sabres need actual hockey players, like Josh Doan, who can play, hit and fight.  Standing up for teammates isn’t foreign or forced for him.  It’s what you are taught from juniors on up.  Dunne is ok in that regard although his foot speed will always be a handicap.  Tuch needs to drop em. Greenway needs to drop em.  All the defenseman need to drop em. Maybe not Dahlin due to the minutes he logs and we know Power will get destroyed in any kind of physical confrontation. It’s been proven that goons don’t influence the other teams actions.

Having your so called "best" players like Tage or Dahlin fighting is not the answer...watch Boston...they have guys who can fight and their stars like Pasternak never fight nor does Boston want them to. Guys who are not fighters can get seriously hurt fighting a fighter.
