Basically everyone available at 8 will have some type of size or high end motor or combination thereof. They'd have to royally screw up to get Nylander 2.0 McQueen is 6'5" Desnoyers is 6'2" Martin and Bear are 6' and will eat your soul. O'Brien is 6'2" Carbonneau is 6'1" I'm probably missing someone but we should be in good shape. Sign me up for the "eat your soul" guys, PLEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSE???!!! 1 Quote

There's this guy in every draft with varying skill levels. Tyler Boucher of 2021 comes to mind. Martin at 7 would worry me, sure he'll be an nhl player but am I getting a 40pt 3rd line guy or the potential for a 70pt top 6 guy. He's physical yes, but his underlying skills impo put him in that 12-18range. He does a lot of stuff at a glide. He's 6' 174lbs, so Martin isn't some big ole wrecking ball either. 2 Quote
LGR4GM Posted 15 hours ago Author Report Posted 15 hours ago (edited) I like Martin and I'm not saying he's a 3rd liner but I think some of his offensive play will need modifications to transfer. His shot is heavy and he'll fire from anywhere. His pace is frantic and I think that's good but at the NHL level he'll need to apply it better. Also, EP has this: "Brady Martin has one gear, and it's the destroy the world gear." As always ep is awesome in their prospect coverage with their scouting reports. If there's a 70pt guy, we have to take him... But outside of Misa, do you think any of the other picks will hit that? As I was saying before, Martin was a +25 on a team that was -42 and has the work ethic to change the culture of the team. Plus, he was one of the best offensive players in the draft in the second half of the season and I see him at 50 to 60 points in his prime. From what little I saw, I also really like that Carter Bear guy you posted about... I just happen to know Martin's game going back quite a few years and think he has intangibles that other kids might not have. 1 Quote

He's got the skills for it and the aggression but to answer your question, no I wouldn't guarantee anyone else other than Misa as a 70pt player. Someone will be, but that's open for debate who from the class. Interestingly, Martin plays a high event clever offensive game that would mesh well with Benson. I have a sneaky suspicions that those 2 would play off each other perfectly. 1 Quote

I think what you said about changing culture is the main reason why we should take him. 2 Quote

I think the "consensus" that emerges prior to an NHL draft loses all meaning after the first few picks. You take the guy you like the best. You don't ignore your gut and let McAvoy slide by in favour of Nylander. ***** the consensus. Look at the drafts between 5-15 years ago. Most of those drafts tended to follow the consensus. Most drafts are wrong. Quote

He did score again tonight for Canada. The Canadian goalie is very good and is up for the draft.Ivankovic Edit: Martin scored again. Canada dog walking Sweden 5-0 in the second period of the Championship game. Id take Martin 7th or 8th over a McQueen. He has a culture changing kind of mentality that the Sabres are in dire need of. A warrior type of player. I wouldn’t be shocked though if a Boston or Philly took him even higher regardless of rankings. Edited 3 hours ago by Flashsabre Quote

Let's not make him out to be some McDavid level or even Tkachuk level player. Let's under-sell a bit more than over. Edited 3 hours ago by LGR4GM Quote

You’re absolutely right but you have to start somewhere and he would be a good add to start to build towards that type of culture. Martin isn’t a superstar talent. If he turns into a Peca that would be big. From the talent in the Sabres pipeline I think he would be a good fit as someone that drags his fellow players into the fight. Quote

Martin got the 2G, player of the game (Ivankovic should have got it) and led Team Canada at +4. They haven't updated it, but I think he'll get the tournament lead at +15. I wanted to see him get the hat trick, but TBH he seemed disinterested... I thought he was coasting from about the 5-0 mark. Not sure if that's a cause for concern or a pro given the team had the game won and he's team first? Edit: Here's the final +/- leaders. Edited 2 hours ago by JoeSchmoe Quote
