No one hears anything about this, especially when he goes on his February tear, but the day after the season ends he tells his own personal website that he was injured "for weeks and months?" If he's got an injury, maybe he shouldn't play in the World Cup or World Championship or whatever B-league tournament Austria is going to. Seriously, if he is legitimately hurt, then WTF is he thinking? Did the Sabres sign off on an injured Vanek going to the IIHF World Cup? National pride or not, TV is a $50M investment by the Sabres. The injury is hockey related, but was sustained in a non-NHL game where their contracts are not covered. So if Vanek were to miss time at the start, can he be suspended? How does this work? I couldn't care less if he travels back home in the offseason, but I'm real concerned that a guy who is the cornerstone of our franchise might be playing hurt in a non-NHL event.
