But they're showing a lot of character! And Buffalo is a blue-collar town that needs a team with character!!

The Sabres completely whooped Arizona a couple nights ago. We aren't the worse team post-trade deadline.

We've had plenty of crap teams the past 10 years that have decided to win late in the season. They promptly went back to being crap teams again at the start of the subsequent season. It's happening again. This season may be the most "Buffalo" moment in the history of Buffalo Sports.

I'm stoked about the win too. We'll all be celebrating it for the rest of our lives.

And Brady gets the ball back with 1:30 left on the clock. Bills protecting a 3 point lead....

Couldn't disagree more. The players on the borderline playoff squad won't care about the draft pick, and is any GM going to pass up a chance to make the playoffs over a 7.1% chance at the first pick? Of course not. People's jobs and futures are on the line. Keep in mind how unusual this year is. We get a Connor McDavid-type player maybe once every 10 years. A 7.1% chance at the first pick in a normal draft year is nothing to plan around. Plus, let's never forget that this is showbusiness. Imagine if the NHL held this lottery one hour before the draft: 14 balls in the hopper and you draw 14th overall first, 13th overall second, etc. Fans in 14 NHL cities would be glued to the TV before the draft even began. And no one would ever cheer against their team.

Maybe Bogosian and Girgensons think the fans are actively rooting for them to play with a generational talent starting next year. Not many. Crosby wasn't that long after the Kasparitis goal in 2001.

"You're here because we weren't good enough."

Yeah, what did he say?

It's a nicer response than you deserve.

Sounds like you've never lived here. Some of us do. Back off.

If by "shitshow" you mean incredible place to live, then yeah.

Brady to Gronk. 1st down.

This isn't worth a new thread but here you go: Johan Larsson is +3 this year in 29 GP with the Sabres. Obviously limited minutes and blah blah blah, but a +3 on this team over that many games is a worth mentioning. Looking forward to seeing him on the team next year for a full season.

Decided to answer my own question. See here for the Sabres season so far: http://espn.go.com/nhl/team/schedule/_/name/buf/buffalo-sabres We have 20 wins right now. Out of those 20 wins, ESPN has *13* where our "top performer" was a goaltender with a save percentage of 0.93 or higher. And that's just the wins -- it doesn't include any loser points we earned or any losses that we kept close only because of our goaltending. Had the Sabres had mediocre goaltending performances in just 3 of those 13 games, resulting in regulation losses, we'd basically have this thing wrapped up with 10 games to go. But, unfortunately for the Tank, we've seen A LOT of great goaltending performances this season. Also, you can't say: a. The Sabres have a historically bad Corsi this season b. The race to 30th place will be close c. The Sabres haven't had great goaltending All three of those statements can't be true at once.

Only if you're looking at this season as the average of 246 periods of hockey (plus overtimes and SO's). But it's not. It's 82 individual outcomes. And out of the 47 points the Sabres currently have, how many are because we had a goaltender stand on his head and save the day -- earning us a point or even 2 points. Lindback just did it against Boston. How many points do Arizona and Edmonton have from goalies standing on their head? Moreover, even if the numbers for Enroth, Neuvirth, and Lindback aren't that good, their stats aren't telling the whole story by any stretch. Our goaltenders are under siege in almost every game. Having a GAA in the ~3.00 range on this team is great goaltending.

I feel pretty decent about a top three of Girgensons, Reinhart, and Larsson for next year though. With hopefully another top pick at C on the way.

What is the success rate on these "unique" names? Has anyone ever heard a really unusual baby name and thought "Wow, great job!" And if you're this kid, you're basically being sentence to a lifetime of repeating your name for people who are confused and explaining how to spell it. Way to go. I doubt anyone has ever been made more unique, special, or interesting person by their parents' choice of name. It's really just the parents' chance to announce to the world how pretentious and douchey they are. And if you're announcing the name of your child AND the meaning (e.g. "enlightenment!") of that name, that's not a good sign. (I don't count family names or cultural names as "meaning" explanations; those are fine.)

"If not for our goaltending we'd be running away with this thing." = what we've been saying for 72 games so far. But, yeah, any second now our goaltending will collapse...

I hate this post, if only because I see the last 10 games unfolding the exact same way. If the Sabres want 30th, they'll need to completely collapse against Arizona and we aren't playing nearly as poorly as they are.

Another big regulation loss for the Coyotes tonight. Equivalent of another first down for Brady in his two-minute offense, Bills clinging to a 3-point lead...

Probably right after this season. Why would you wait until the middle of next season if he's not your pick as the coach? And especially if you're building around young players that he's not meshing with?

Another reason I can't wait for this season to be over and next season to start is that I'm looking forward to watching Johan Larsson playing well as a Sabre without being worried he'll screw up our draft pick. Save some of this for next year, Johan! Booooooooo.....- 179 replies

If I hadn't seen the link on Twitter, I wouldn't have known either. The stick got him on the side of the face and I was worried it was his eye or something before he finally skated off.- 179 replies
